He's more of an interpretor than a translator, eventhough the text says that he's a translator. It's kinda degrading to call him a translator because he's an even more skilled interpretor.

i think he's just using the hand gestures because he doesn't speak english and he use hand gestures to help him talk in front of people who doesn't speak his language.
