  • Thankyouuuu!!!

  • Thank you! You are certainly more intelligent (technically) than I.

    "wolf175" and "wolf1750"

  • Good job! I was hunched over, talking to the apple symbol at the bottom of my monitor! LOL

    Now I know, so THANKS!

  • Just did the finger swipe and blew my f***ing ears off.

  • Well worth the 2 minutes of buildup and suspense! Entertaining info, actually. Thanx!

  • Thank you! I looked and couldn't find it.

  • Thank you...

  • thanks so much...my mic has been crackly for the last month...i kust blew over these tiny holes and it's now perfect! Thanks for it.

  • I enjoyed the suspense!!! Great answer. I never would have seen the mic!!!

  • Thanks a lot for this.

  • I googled it and yours was the first link that came up. Thanks for the info.

  • Thanks! I was wondering about that for ages! It is so small ;-)

  • oh thanks man!

  • Haha oh my god.. You do realize you just could've googled it?

  • @Chetreo - actually i DID google it, but in 2007 this mac was brand new - there wasn't any info out about it yet. i made this vid for a friend and decided to make it public. so now when you google "imac microphone" this video is the top hit. ;)

  • THANKYOU FOR THIS!!!!! i wanted to know where it wasssss <3

  • The sound is typical of any small generic mic. There are better sounding hand held mics--all you have to do is plug one in and compare.

  • Wow It doesn't look tiny on the vid, but wow in real life it's TINY!

  • so i need help with the mic because when i record i dont sing very loud all though it still sounds like the speakers are getting blown out even with head phones so i know its not the speakers

  • Thank, guy!! I've been searching for ages.

  • Holy sh*t just found it..It is small

  • One way to locate a built in mic is to plug in earphones, turn up the volumes and scan the whole laptop with one of the earpieces while wearing the other one!

  • @shxrao hey, that's a good idea - a feedback test!

  • Oh wow, the mic is up there haha!

  • Thanks for doing this...very helpful.

  • You couldve just pointed to where the mic was, and made the video 5 seconds long. Not that your story want interesting and all...

  • you dont understand how much this helps i was having mic issues so thanx a lot

  • hey man, you should do a whole series of ridiculously long "how to" and "where" videos. maybe a TV network will pick it up. . .

  • Thanks! I have been looking for my mic for the past 20 minutes. I see that tiny little thing now.

  • thanks I couldn't find it lol

  • 2.22 minutes to say something you could have said in just 10 seconds. not bad

  • Thanks for the effort & sharing. Was looking for the mic to do a recording in the quiet of the night so as not to wake anyone up. ;)

  • thx!!!!!

  • thanks rolent3!! i never noticed this before and i have had an imac for 3 years now...!!

: ) it is sOOooO tiny!!

  • I couldn't find anything on the Apple site to tell me where the mic was, thank you

  • I too had a toy on the top - thanks for that :)

  • WHOA! I found out finafreakingly!!!!!

  • thank you!! i can go on with my life now

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks! I also had a toy pasted over it and didn't realise that's why my mic wasn't working!

  • get to the point!!!

  • taking too long to get to the point, Where is it already! lol I'm dying here

  • Thanx for the video demo because I couldnt figure out why my audio died on my IMac. Saw your demo and realized that the penguin toy I put on top was blocking the hole.. Thanx again

  • yeah lol totally its really tiny actually i found it just now.. lol but its not that good in recording, music n stuff :D:D pretty good in skype and chatting or making videos = )

  • lol

  • Dude, I was trying to record my Talking Nacho Libre keychain and had NO idea where to hold it near my iMac. And, since I was using LOGIC 9, I wanted it to SOUND IT'S BEST! :P ;) Your video solved the mystery and now I can trigger whatever the hell Jack Black is shouting out in bad Spanish accents! Thanks for taking the time to do this! :D ReinMan

  • Wow, thanks! I never noticed that on my iMac before! Those holes are TINY!!!

  • Thank you so much.

  • I was wondering and now I know where the mic is. thanks so much for posting this!

  • With electret condensers, usually the smaller the diaphragm, the more balanced/neutral the freqency response, at the expense of worse signal/noise ratio. So, not really that surprising it seems so small.

  • Thanks for that I've been looking for ages. Personally it was two minutes of enjoyable preamble to the reveal. "akacocolopez", you should lay off the coke then perhaps you'd have more patience.

  • that is absolutely amazing, macs for life <3

  • i have a problem selecting my built in mic. I know it works though because it only lets me talk when i calibrate it. Can some one help me?

  • @pwned123456788

Go to your utilities folder 9in your applications folder) and find the Audio MIDI Set UP utility. Drag it into your dock & you will always be able to find it. Open the Audio Settings tab and select your input source and your output source.

  • thank you this helped me a lot.

  • thanks xD

  • My mic stopped working and I had visions of lugging this imac to an apple repair center and waiting for weeks to fix the microphone. I to tried al the software options and even tried tapping as well, Turns out it was an ornament I stuck on the top of my imac covering the microphone, what a doofus ! You just saved me weeks of torment. Thank you so much . ^5 :)

  • thanks dude, VERY easy to overlook...seriously...

  • THANKS!

  • thanks for solving the mystery...but god 2 minutes to find out was excrutiating

  • thanks

  • The first site I hit and voila...Thanks so much, I am a newbie...It's so tiny I got a flashlight to see it.

  • Thanks!!

  • beautiful walk through. I have a 24 inch imac as well. love it. once you go mac, you never go back.

  • Two years later...thanks for helping! I liked your method.

  • BRILLIANT!

    Thanks SO MUCH

    x

  • THANKS!!! I just spent 30 minutes trying to figure this out. I was sure it was on the bottom....

  • Thank you Sherlock Holmes. Now can we get ny tips on how to sound softer with the built-in-microphone. :D

  • Saved me hours of looking. Many thanks

  • You deserve ALL the thank yous that you receive. From my question on GOOGLE (where is the micraphone on an iMAC) direct to you. How good does it get?

    It gets very GOOD>

  • thank you

  • Thank you so much! Very helpful.

  • OMG so small

  • Thank you so much for making this! Saves me from buying a mic.

  • Thanks, man! That hit the spot!

  • wow that is ridiculously tiny

  • THANKS!! LOL. As soon as I bought my new iMAC I covered the little camera (paranoid) not knowing that the tape covered the mic! I thought I was going crazy! Now I can hear myself on garage band!!!

    LOL

    TB

  • Thanks for the video - most helpful (I'd stuck one of my son's craft projects right over the microphone!! - no wonder people couldn't hear us on skype!)

  • Thank YOU!

  • i have one question how can you send your voice to a friend?

i have everything and i still dont know

  • Thank you so much...

  • you are awesome!! you have no idea, i was freaking out that my microphone was all muffled but it was because it was covered by this little lion ornament that i have taped to the top of my computer(: THANK YOU SOO MUCH :DDD

  • shutup p28ductions! a-hole!

YOU are my hero!!! i was having a hell of a time getting my skype to work, i could hear everyone i called but they could barely hear me. do you know what the problem was? i had taped a fortune cookie label over the camera hole (because remote access spook stories are real) and it was covering up the practically invisible mic holes! i assumed it was behind the imac monitor's frame! a piece of scotch tape almost entirely cancelled out the sound!! impressive.

  • thanks so much, very useful video!

  • Thanks for sharing and being so good with explanation. Fantastic!

  • very helpful...many thanks....

  • Thank you! I've bee trying to find where it was hidden and now I know! :)

  • thank you, thank you, thank you, your new friend - richard

  • That is real small. I would of never known it was there. Brilliant! or is it?

  • Thank you very much!

  • Thank you! Great little vid.

  • omg thanks, ive spent ages looking for it!

  • how do you lower the input level?!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!I Must have searched for a good 30 minutes, lol. On my last mac the mic was on the front lower left side. would never have noticed it....seems like an odd spot to put it. Thank you again!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you...I just spent 20 minutes on Apple site asking Where the heck is the built-in mic.

Great job - never would have spotted it without you. Thanks again. Colinova

  • thanks

  • this is a really cute video. I love how you found out.

  • Thank you so much for that video...VERY helpful and better than anything anyone has put out there to inform about this issue...even APPLE...Kudos!!!

  • jesus christ mate, took you long enough to get to the point ;-). However, cheers for the enlightenment.

  • Thanks a lot - I was just going to do the same research, and you did for me!

  • That was an epic. Thank you!

  • Good Video brother. I was wondering where it was, thanks!

  • Holy shit

  • Thanks for this video, cuz I was wondering the same thing. I actually said, "Oh wow!" Out loud, lol.

  • Same exact thing. Thanks!

  • you could have make this video a little shorter dont you think?

  • The lesson learnt for me was that it is easier to find the mike using google than actually looking for it.

  • thanks a lot man

  • yes - add to that i did numerous takes. so really i took a few HOURS making this to explain something that only takes 2 seconds to show.

  • so basically you took 2:20 secs to explain somthing that takes 2 secs to show.

  • I just figured it out as your video was loading! Good job though. I love my new 24" iMac! =)

  • Thanks, Was of great help!

  • thanks! I was looking for it to!

    Antonio Malta Campos

  • do you know where you would put a headset microphone into the IMAC because i want to use the headset for a game using teamspeak? can you help?

  • AMAZING DUDE.

  • I read they make the holes in the case for the mic with a laser. The iMac is amazing. Saving up for the 20" and will buy one when os 10.5 comes out.

  • so true - but there are a few glitches. screen is a bit brighter on the left side - plus occasional weird psychedelic pixelated screen glitches that pop up and won't go away 'til you put it to sleep. still, i LOVE it!

  • hey i know this may sound weird but how to you use it? ive been going into quicktime

    file

    make new audio recording

i record my voice and nothing happens when i play it.. :(

  • Mac is QUALITY :)
