If you guys like the upright bass check out jazz musician Esperanza Spalding. She talks about her new album, Chamber Music Society in this video, Youtube.com/watch?v=uk-oJGAXSjA
well i got the hang of thngs now, but what would u say is the best way to aviod getting blisters? cuz iv gotten like 6 on the same finger and its starting to annoy me
you need to have a feel for where the notes are gonna sound good, with practice your muscles tend to remember the place where the notes dound good, so you only need to see when you do a big jump on the neck
i have recently started playing double bass, i put dot stickers on the side of the neck, like on a electric bass (3rd, 5th 7th 9th etc..) just so i can work out where the notes are, now however, i hardly use them! i do it by ear and feel.
yes and no, the way you play it is totally different, hand positionings etc.. however if you can adapt well, it does have some similarities to electric bass (eg, layout of notes, scales etc..), and it will benifit you to have played electric 1st (in my opinion,) , and as i have been playing fretless bass for a while, the change was that much smoother.
but it will kill your fingers, and takes alot more strength to play double bass, but well worth it =)
LMFAO R u serious? gimme a break nothin needs frets, its just a way to show where to play. I knw a few upright bassists put color coded tape on the side of the fretboard

no the fret is where the you should put your finger but on guitars and basses
you put you figner before the fret and the fret presses against the string making the sound it makes it much easier
but it just dosnt work and would ruin the sound

i mean it dosn't work on double basses

Ken Steiner is an awesome Bass player. I played several gigs with him last year.

Oh, and you have horrible pizz technique. Do you know how to play your instrument? That is /not/ how Jazz players do it.

Are you kidding me? I play double bass and I can be louder than the entire cello section on pizz.
