In spite of all the negative things that Gene said about MGHSH, it has a lot of fun qualties. But, needless to say, it just wasn't the same as the classics.

No, if you recall, so many people picked Richard for the Super Match, that they got the Star Wheel, which caused Richard to leave.

Actually, Dawson left MG b/c his growing ego caused him to gradually withdraw from participating in the game (refusing to smile, joke, etc)...seeing he was unhappy, the producers finally offered Dawson a chance to get out of his contract, which he took.

I still remember seeing the clip on classic MG, with Richard refusing to smile for the camera! (Shortly after the Star Wheel was unveiled) Guess Richard shouldn't have been too grumpy, as he was really making more of a name for himself hosting the Feud than on MG. Of course, he should thank MG for inspiring FF...due to the "matching answers" element on both games.

Spoken like someone who hasn't seen much of Gene on Match Game '7x.

Gene has said many times that MG's format is very weak, so he had to go for laughs at times. (Much to Mark Goodson's chagrin -- at first.)
