Fantastic point. Pat Day would enhance, amplify, heighten and intensify that by stating himself that "he have Easy Goer "breathers" on the far turns in both the Preakness and Classic." That is why Day called him own riding "absolutely rider error". It's called repeated start and stop, start and stop, stop and start, stop and start riding by Day on Easy Goer and cost him by a nostril and desperate neck in two outs in the Preakness and Classic against an also great in SS.
Citation,Kelso,Easy Goer,Dr Fager,Forego,John Henry,Skip Away all the right horses behind on head to head scoreboards, though none of the others had Patsy Day on board.....Noor,Beau Purple,SS,Big Spruce,Formal Gold,Interco,Akureyri all right time.
Head to head matchups? Yes, SS proved his greatness, proved his metal in head to head and on the scoreboard, exactly like Noor,Beau Purple,Formal Gold,Big Spruce,Interco all did also. Yes, Kelso,Citation,Easy Goer,Forego,John Henry,Skip Away,Dr Fager, etc were all behind or tied on the head to head matchups scoreboard, no matter what the reasons for their losses were
LOL!To casual fans like you, there are only 4 big days in racing. But to any&all true racing fans, historians, trainers, jockeys,we all know that isn't true. The Hollywood Gold Cup,Pacific Classic,Big Cap,Jockey Club Gold Cup,Woodward,Whitney,Travers, etc carry as much, if not more weight, and have as rich,if not more of a history of crowning champions. If it went by only 4 big days, then Dr. Fager,Kelso,Forego,Tom Fool,Buckpasser,Cigar,Holy Bull,John Henry,Seabiscuit,Ruffian, etc wouldnt be all timers
Please focus on the head to head matchups, I think you'll agree that horse racing today takes center stage on two ocassions, the Triple Crown and the Breeders Cup. Thats just how it is now! No one remembers the Swaps, or the Suburban, c'mon!
But the fact remains, Noor beat Citation in 4 of 5 races. Beau Purple beat Kelso in 3 of 4 races. Damascus beat Fager 2 of 4 races. Interco beat John Henry in 2 of 3. Big Spruce beat Forego 2 of 3 races. Formal Gold beat Skip Away in 4 of 6 races. Akureyri beat Pleasant Colony 3 of 4 races.
Whittingham made plenty of excuses, reasons for many of SS' losses. He said it was a horrible ride in his G-2 Swaps loss. He said it was the 5 pound weight difference in his loss to Criminal Type, yet EG had to give away more weight to C.Type,as the supposed lesser horse than SS!Lol...Whittingham made plenty of excuses, reasons.
So Easy Goer completely romped over the black horse by 8 lengths, and "he just got beat" according to you. I thought winning by 2 lengths in 2:05 was a complete "ass kicking"? Quadruple(4X)the margin must be the worst ass kicking ever then. But the bottom line is that Easy Goer beat the black horse by a much farther margin than Easy Goer beat all those other "Prove Out,Onion,Prized" horses in the Jockey Club,Gotham,Woodward,Travers,Whitney, etc.
@DELMARCLUB1 ...Sunday Silence would outrun EG on those those turns, look at the Preakness that year. SS had to steady when EG put him in tight down the backside then made up the ground he lost on the turn....as for the Belmont? Those sweeping turns helped EG and maybe he just weathered those 5 weeks better than SS....neither horse was 8 lengths better than the other...

The Belmont was run on Easy Goer's home track! Sunday Silence hated the surface! PVal was out the night before drinking and doing blow! You see how easy it is to make excuses for a horse not showing up. Sunday Silence got beat on Belmont day and if I were to make excuses it would only serve to diminish Easy Goer's awesome performance. But I guess you guys don't see that when your horse loses.
LOL!! Yeah but the black horse ran in the Belmont, and Easy Goer beat that black horse by 8 lengths, and he beat that black horse by a much farther margin than he beat those "other Onion,Prove Out,Prized" horses in the Gotham,Woodward,Jockey Club. He beat him by a much farther margins. Hmmmmm
He actually ran top ten all time performances as a 2, 3 and 4 yr old, and ran these all time top ten performances at all distances of ground that he ran,6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F. That is why, he actually ran them. But if he was this 2nd coming or that 2nd coming, he would have lost 3 times at 3 like Secretariat did. He would have lost 4 of 5 to Noor like Citation did, he would have lost 3 of 4 to Beau Purple like Kelso did,he would have lost 2 of 4 to Damascus like Dr Fager did.
2nd coming? If he was the 2nd coming of Secretariat, he would have lost 3 times as a 3 yr old, lost the Woodward by 5 lengths, lost the Wood Memorial by over 4 lengths, and lost the Whitney to Onion. If he was the 2nd coming of Citation,he would have lost 4 of 5 races to Noor. If he was the 2nd coming of Kelso,he would have lost 3 of 4 races to Beau Purple. If he was Dr Fager,he would have lost 2 of 4 to Damascus. Forego?2 of 3. John Henry-2of 3.
I just got into my time machine, and guess what? The lightly regarded horse that nobody wanted and was bought for next to nothing was just voted Horse of the Year and 3 year old champion over the regally bred horse who who was supposed to be the second coming of Secretariat! Oh shit, I forgot my glasses!
That is why. Because Easy Goer ran many, many top ten all time performances in his life, at the ages of 2, 3 and 4, and ran them at every distance he ran,6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F, but the 2 typically atrocioius rides by Day(see also Turkoman,Java Gold,Forty Niner,Sky Classic,Heavenly Prize,Seeking the Gold,Menifee,Surfside,Banshee Breeze, and many others) got him beat a nose and desperation neck vs. an also great horse in SS. SS' greatness showed in he was the only horse who could take adv. of this.

Here's the finish of the Preakness, Sunday Silence and Easy Goer... photo finish, noses apart! I can't tell! But on the outside Sunday Silence with Pat Valenzuela... he's waving his whip like he thinks he won it!
LOL! You call two lengths an ass kicking? I wonder what you call quadruple the margin of 8 lengths??? Yep, EG runs the worst of his life over a track he hates and all SS did was win by two lengths in 2:05?? SS losing by quadruple the margin of 8 lengths must have been called what? Or losing a G-2 to Prized, who lost by 25 lengths to Easy Goer.
Sample size is big enough for Noor, Beau Purple,Formal Gold,Akureyri,Big Spruce,Interco,Damascus also!!!! And the reason: Easy Goer showed top ten all time talent, ability, constitution, record speed-stamina combo,&showed it at 2 yrs old,3yrs old and 4,and showed it at every distance he ran,6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F but Day's typically atrocious riding beat him a nose &desperation neck in 2 races vsan also great in SS.SS gets his,he was the only horse that could take advantage of Day's atrocious riding
Lets not kid ourselves, Sunday Silence was supposed to get trounced by Easy Goer going into their 3 year old campaigns! To this day, I have not seen a horse receive so much hype going into the Triple Crown. I think that is where the frustration lies with all you Easy Goer fanatics. The races were run and its clear that the horse who won wasn't supposed to! But, I think that the sample size is big enough and its clear that Sunday Silence got the better of Easy Goer!
The same tired excuses! "Absolute rider error", "desperation neck", "atrocious riding", but my favorite is the quoting of the racing experts. Don't forget to blame the track surface for the ass kicking he got in the Derby! Finally, god forbid, you guys give Sunday Silence any credit for the the spectacular display he put on when the horses met! Its as if SS didnt have any of his own obstacles to overcome in the 4 races
Simply the better horse? Well than also Noor was simply the better horse than Citation, 4 out of 5...Beau Purple was simply the better horse than Kelso, 3 out of 4!...Interco was simply better than John Henry, 2 out of 3!...Big Spruce simply better than Forego, 2 out of 3...Formal Gold 4 out of 6...Akureyri simply better than Pleasant Colony, 3 out of 4!!And Damascus was exactly even with Dr Fager, 2 out of 4.
I am a native west coaster from San Diego. Brown horse?LOL Get some glasses- more like a chestnut.LOL!The target: Pat Day?? Pat Day calls his own riding "absolute rider error" and got the better horse beat by a nose and desperation neck in 2 races. Not only did Pat Day's typically atrocious riding cost Easy Goer by a nose and desperation neck in 2 races, but Day also getting totally outridden &schooled with race riding antics as well. Pat Day is his own target, he doesn't need Bill Christine
beast13284, its beyond a cult in here! Just imagine the same old, recycled excuses! They come at you from all over, and there's a ton of them! The target: Pat Day! Also, the words "woulda", coulda, shouda, are constantly used!
Immensely agree. Like many of the racing experts stated from both coasts(Christine, Crist,Nack,Pope, etc.) and even stated by trainers Wayne Lukas and Woody Stephens, but stated the most correct by Paul Moran of espn, "Easy Goer was the better, more phenomenal, extraordinary horse, but was defeated by a whisker and desperate neck in two races due to Pat Day riding him "like the exposed end of a live wire". I agree, Day also calls his riding "total jock errors." They were both greats though.
But "Easy Goer will always be mentioned in the same breath with the GREATEST of ALL TIME" and that is in spite of the awful, awful start and stop, start and stop, stop and start, start and stop, stop and start riding that cost him by a nostril and desperate neck in two outs.
Pat Day's stop and start, stop and start, start and stop, stop and start riding could only get Easy Goer beat a nostril and desperate neck in two outs.
Tactical speed was the difference when the horses met! Sunday Silence had it, EG didn't. It just seems that when they met, EG seem to run differently for whatever reason! The majority here seem to blame human error, I tend to focus on running style. Food for thought.
Enough said as to who was the better horses head to head?? Noor 4 Citation 1.....Beau Purple 3 Kelso 1.....Formal Gold 4 Skip Away 2......Interco 2 John Henry 1......Damascus 2 Dr Fager 2.....Big Spruce 2 Forego 1....
Easy Goer and Sunday Silence. Joe Frazier and Muhammed Ali. Yankees and Red Sox. Two of the all time greats. Campaigned very differently. It was a very poorly timed move by Pat Day, Easy Goer was going double there the last eighth, but two all time greats none the less.
Scoreboard? Citation lost 4 of 5 to Noor. Kelso lost 3 of 4 to Beau Purple. Dr Fager lost 2 of 4 to Damascus. John Henry lost 2 of 3 to Interco. Skip Away lost 4 of 6 to Formal Gold. Forego lost 2 of 3 to Big Spruce. Game, set match. Put Cordero, Pincay or Bailey on Easy Goer and he never loses by a nose and desperation neck in 2 races due to typically atrocious Pat Day rides.
@BoldValiant You are probably correct, and not that it really matters, but Skip Away won the year end eclipse awards, Skip Away is in the Hall of Fame, and is ranked in the thirties in all time top 100, unfortunately not Formal Gold in any of these.
I agree, and it wasn't just Day stating it was his own "total jockey errors" in costing him.Day's stop and start, start and stop, passive, deliberate riding cost him.Like many of the racing experts(Bill Christine, Crist, Watchmaker, Pope, etc) stated, and even trainers Wayne Lukas &Woody Stephens stated, but stated the most correct by Paul Moran IMO,"Easy Goer was the better, more extraordinary horse, but was defeated by an inch& desperate neck b/c Day rode him like like the exposed end of a live wire."
Pat Day must have been clueless as well. Pat Day called his own riding "absolute rider error".Pat Day said in both the Preakness and Classic he gave EG "breathers around the far turn when SS went".If you think that it was as simple as Easy Goer was much faster than SS on the straights& SS was faster on the sharp turns, then EG would have beaten him in the Preakness, but it was Day's despicable riding and multiple mistakes and errors in many parts of both races, as Day says "absolute rider error."
YOU GUYS ARE CLUELESS.....yes overall Easy Goer was the more talented horse but Sunday Silence was more efficient running between 9 - 10 furlongs.....Past 10 furlongs Easy Goer was a monster....
UNFORTUNATELY....Easy Goer has a weakness that a Sunday Silence type of a horse took advantage off....Do you guys know what it is?.....NO IT IS NOT PAT DAY....Pat rode EG beautifully....THE PROBLEM WITH EASY GOER IS HE
CANNOT RUN THE TURNS EFFICIENTLY!!! this is where SS excelled over EG.....
Anyway, also Edwin Pope and Bill Nack's distinct quotes about this race, "After a slow break, Day decided to do nothing after it,letting him settle and drop 12 lengths back. Then Day cost EG a full head of steam on the backstretch. Day put out the fire of a champion in full flame(Day said he gave him a breather when SS went around the far turn, just as Day said he did in the Preakness as well). If Day&McCarron had switched mounts, EG never loses by a desperate neck." I agree.
I thought that you and I were talking about Holy Bull,Dr Fager,Buckpasser,Kelso,Forego,Tom Fool,John Henry,Round Table,Cigar,Skip Away,Easy Goer,Bold Ruler's so called "big wins."
What are you talking about? By the way, when you copy and paste comments, Youtube automatically spams the comments and they are not visible. Just letting you know, since you are getting lazy.
Since Spectacular Bid ran in 1979 and 1980, my top 5 are 1)Easy Goer,2)Sunday Silence,3)Cigar,4)John Henry,5)tied-Holy Bull,Skip Away,Point Given....But who cares, these are opinions
According to your reality and conclusion and logic, Holy Bull,Dr Fager,Buckpasser,Kelso,Forego,Tom Fool,Round Table never won any big race or a race that mattered most, and Cigar,Skip Away,Easy Goer,Bold Ruler only won ONE big race or one race that mattered most.
My conclusion is that all your posts revolve on what could have been if either this or that had happened. If this jockey had done this or that But, sadly for you, reality tells a different story!
Don't forget Holy Bull ranked at #64 losing the Derby over an off track and not even trying to run in the Preakness,Belmont,Classic. According to you, Holy Bull, Dr Fager,Buckpasser,Forego,Kelso,Tom Fool,Round Table never won any big race or the races that mattered most, AND Skip Away,Cigar,Bold Ruler only won ONE big race, or ONE race that mattered most to YOU. That is your logic.
That Bloodhorse rankings book must be all wrong. How can Ferdinand be unranked, and Formal Gold unranked, and Alysheba at #42, and Skip Away at #32 losing all three Triple Crown races and Dr Fager and Buckpasser and Forego and Kelso and Tom Fool and Cigar and Round Table both didn't even compete or lost in any of the Triple Crown races, and Bold Ruler lost the Derby and Belmont
Classic only now? And not Juvenile? Well ok. Wild Again,Proud Truth,Skywalker,Arcangues,Concern,Alphabet Soup,Awesome Again,Cat Thief,Volponi,Pleasantly Perfect...Juvenile- Chiefs Crown,Tasso,Capote,Success Express,Is it True,Rhythm,Fly so Free,Arazi,Gilded Time,Brocco,Timber Country,Unbridleds Song,Boston Harbor,Fav. Trick,Answer Lively,Anees,Macho Uno,Action This Day,WilkoMidshipman,Vale of York.
Races that really matter??? Okay warped mind. Mine that Bird,Super Saver,Giacomo,Tasso,Capote,Success Express,Fly so Free,Arazi,Gilded Time,Boston Harbor,Fav Trick,Answr Lively,Ferd,Anees,Macho Uno,Act this Day,Wilko,ValeoYork,StrkethGold,Sea Hero,LileTee,Gin,EditorsNote,Monarchos,WildAgain,Proud Truth,Skywalker,Arcangues,Concern,AlphSoup,Cat Thief,Volponi were NOT better than Point Given,Easy Goer,Afleet Alex,Best Pal,etc because they won Breeders Cups or Derby's. LOL
I put Easy Goer on a list with horses that you provided! Sunday Silence and Alysheba both won the Derby, Preakness, and Classic something Easy Goer was born to do, but couldn't. Even Ferdinand was able to win the Derby and Classic! These are horses that I consider to be great because they won the races that REALLY matter!
You may be warped in your head. Why? Because you think that this list of horses who won Breeders Cup races and the Derby are better or greater than so many others-Mine thBird,Super Saver,Giacomo,Tasso,Capote,Success Express,Fly so Free,Arazi,Gilded Time,Boston Harbor,Favorite Trick,Answer Lively,Anees,Macho Uno,Action this Day,Wilko,Vale of York,Strike the Gold,Sea Hero,Lil E Tee,Go for Gin,Editors Note,Monarchos,Wild Again,Proud Truth,Skywalker,Arcangues,Concern,Alphabet Soup,Cat Thief,Volponi
Sunday Silence fits perfectly with Ferdinand,Unbridled,Alysheba,Noor,Neau Purple,Wajima, and Interco as horses that won "big races" and were ahead on the scorecard against better horses
All the anger you guys have for Pat Day should be directed at the horses connections, who seem to have thunk differently! Also, the 1989 Horse of the Year deserves a ton of blame as well!
Best Pal,Point Given,Afleet Alex,Lookin at Lucky,Summer Bird,Lemon Drop Kid,Tanks Prospect,Easy Goer. All horses who lost the BC juvenile, KY Derby, and Classic! Easy Goer goer fits perfectly with this group of horses!
They didn't call him Pat "Wait All" Day for nothing!! I agree, even non Easy Goer fans would have like to see Angel Cordero or Laffit Pincay or a McCarron or a Jerry Bailey on Easy Goer. The jockey(and his errors or lack thereof) is always the major difference in races that come down to a nose and neck. The jock is the difference in these races.
Easy Goer, no 3 year old was ever faster at a mile than Easy Goer, running in 1:32:2,thrashing Secretariat's record by 1 full second,a tick off Dr Fager's world record, only one 3 yr old was ever faster in the Belmont Stakes(Secretariat), many of the MOST prestigious, non restricted, older horse races right on track records, won by many other Hall of Fame horses, and only lost by an inch in MD & by a desperate neck in FL due to Pat Day';s self admitted, despicable riding
Easy Goer- the only horse to win the Belmont,Whitney,Travers,Woodward,Jockey Club Gold Cup, and only Easy Goer,Kelso,SlewoGold have ever won the Whitney,Woodward,Jockey Club Gold Cup in the same year, but Easy Goer was only a 3 year old, the other two Hall of Famers were older horses. No 3 year old was ever faster than Easy Goer at a mile in 1:32:2,and only one 3 year old-Secretariat- was ever faster in the Belmont Stakes.
Sorry, most people agree that NON RESTRICTED open races for older horses and three year olds are bigger than restricted races to only 2 year olds or only 3 year olds, these races are restricted by age. And many more champions have run in and been crowned in open, non restricted older horse races-Jockey Club Gold Cup,Woodward,Whitney,HollyGold Cup,Suburban, etc, than in the Derby,Preakness,Classic. And you have to win the Belmont to be crowned Triple Crown Champ anyways.
SS got his butt devoured in the Belmont by Easy Goer, LOST a GRADE 2 race to Prized, another horse Easy Goer also devoured. Lost 3 times at Hollywood Park, Lost giving less weight away to Criminal Type than Easy Goer had to give away to him, and only won the Preakness and Classic by an inch and desperate neck due to Pat Day's despicable riding on Easy Goer.
Easy Goer, 2 year old champion, only horse to ever LOSE the BC juvenile, Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and BC classic. These races aren't prestigious, they're the most prestigious!
Easy Goer, Hall of Fame Eclipse Award Champion, fastest mile ever run by any 3 yr old with only Dr Fager ever faster, second fastest Belmont Stakes of all time w/only Secretariat ever faster! That is better, but it still leaves out-Easy Goer, the only horse to ever win the Belmont,Travers,Whitney,Woodward&Jockey Club Gold Cup. Only Easy Goer,Kelso&SlewoGold ever won the Whitney,Woodward&Jockey Club in the same year, but EG was the only 3 yr old. Many of the most prestigious races right on tr.records
Easy Goer- Hall of Fame Eclipse Champion, Fastest 3 year old mile of all time with only Dr Fager ever faster, second fastest Belmont Stakes of all time with only Secretariat ever faster!!
Easy Goer, Hall of Fame Eclipse Champion who ran the fastest mile of all time by any 3 yr old in 1:32:2, second fastest Belmont Stakes of all time with only Secretariat ever faster. Many of the most prestigious, championship races won by many other Hall of Fame horses(Belmont,Whitney,Travers,Champagne,Gotham,Suburban) right on track records, and only lost by an inch and desperate neck in two races b/c of Day's self admitted despicable riding.
I don't dismiss s.s. at all. I think they were both all time great horses, whether I feel Easy Goer was better, that is an opinion. And IMO,a major, major reason(s) for the nose and neck losses was due to Day's typically atrocious riding. But another major reason was they were both great all time horses
Crist: "In Easy Goer's best race, he walloped s.s.by eight lengths. In 2 of the 3 losses, E.G. had legitimate excuses(one over a track he didn't handle and the other an atrocious ride). SS won very narrowly, but never in way that proved he was just plain better." Who cares, it is an opinion. I agree somewhat
I was at Santa Anita when Sunday Silence romped home in the Santa Anita Derby, so maybe I'm biased. But what convinces me is what I saw, which was an underrated horse get the best of a horse who at the time was considered the next Secretariat! I think that Is where your frustration lies and its understandable, but you cant continue to dismiss SS. Its unfair!
Crist :"If the question on the ballot had been, who is the better horse, a lot more than 20 people would have voted against s.s." It is just an opinion. Do I agree? Yes, but who cares. That is not trying to convince you.
That is true though, Joe Hirsch and Crist do state the same thing I do, just put in different words, but that isn't trying to convince anything. That is an agreement of opinions.
So if the scoreboard is the only thing that convinces you, then why haven't Noor,Damascus,Formal Gold,Beau Purple,Big Spruce,Mehmet convinced you like s.s.?
If opinions of some experts that I agree gets to float your boat, then by all means, I am sure there are plenty of opinions of experts that you would agree with as well.
Losing?Citation lost 13 races and was trailing on the scoreboard. Secretariat lost 3 races at 3 years of age. Dr Fager lost 2 of 4 to Damascus. Forego and Kelso lost over 20 times each. Easy Goer lost 6 times.Buckpasser lost 6 times. Damascus lost over 10 times.Bid lost the two biggest races at 3 years of age. Seattle Slew lost big races by a nose and neck.
Nor do I need to be convinced by any of these about Easy Goer or Day's typically atrocious riding, though I agree with some, not all, of then in regards to Easy Goer as a horse and Day's riding.
I don't need to be convinced by Joe Hirsch, Christine, Steve Crist, Pat Day, Haskin or any of them to see Pat Day's typically atrocious riding cost so many top horses big races,awards,etc- Java Gold,Easy Goer,Sky Classic,Turkoman,Forty Niner,Heavenly Prize,Surfside,Banshee Breeze and so many others.
More champions have been crowned in the non restricted open older horse races, such as the Jockey Club Gold,Woodward,Whitney than in the restricted to only 3 year olds classics. And every Triple Crown champion has to win the Belmont Stakes to be crowned a Triple Crown champion anyways. And Easy Goer beat SS by a much farther margin in the Belmont, than he beat all the others. But despicable riding is what cost EG by an inch and desperate neck in the Preakness &Classic.
Same horse?Well Kelso lost 3 of 4 to the same horse in huge older horse(people say non restricted older horse races are even better&bigger) races.Citation lost four to Noor is non restricted older horse races. So did Forego,John Henry,Skip Away,Dr. Fager all in non restricted open older horse races.None of these were in"reg season" races,&I also don't think the Belmont,Travers,Whitney,Woodward,Suburban,JClub Gold Cup are "reg season" races.More champs have won these than the Derby,Preak,Classic
But those loses happened! And they happened when it mattered most. People dont remember the regular season they remember the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Sadly, for you guys Easy Goer lost yhe sports most important races to the same horse!
Like Joe Hirsch said, same thing as I said, just different words. "Easy Goer would be mentioned in the same reverential breath as Man O'War,,Secretariat(lost 3 times at 3),Citation(lost 4 of 5 to Noor),Dr Fager(lost 2 of 4 to Damascus),Kelso(lost 3 of 4 to Beau Purple),Forego(lost 2 of 3 to Big Spruce),and his campaign acclaimed the greatest in racing history, if not for the nose &desperation neck losses due to Day's typically atrocious riding vs a great ss." Same thing, just different words
I didn't say that. I said Easy Goer was always a top ten all time thorobred in talent, ability, constitution, speed stamina record combo, as evidenced by his many, many top ten all timer performances at every distance, but what sent EG down into the thirties where ss always belonged was nose and desperation neck losses due to Pat Day's typically atrocious riding.
If EG was a top ten horse that's where he'd be! He is where he belongs, behind Sunday Silence! There is a difference between what could have been and actual reality! All of you need to snap out of it!
If your argument is solely based on the scoreboard, then Citation,Kelso,Forego,Skip Away,John Henry should all be ranked lower than the horses who were ahead of them on the scoreboard, and Dr Fager should be ranked equal to Damascus.
Turn that around. So when the Bloodhorse supports your argument it is OK, but when experts such as Bill Christine,Crist,Nack,Pope has an opinion it's laughable??
Pat Day's typically atrocious riding only got Easy Goer beat a nose &desperation neck in 2 races? No way Jose. Day's typically atrocious riding cost so many top horses eclipse awards, huge races,- Java Gold,Easy Goer,Turkoman,Sky Classic,Forty Niner,Heavenly Prize,Seeking the Gold,Paradise Creek,Surfside,Banshee Breeze, and so many more.
So when experts like Bill Christine, Bill Nack, Crist, and Edwin Pope support your argument its OK, but when Bloodhorse has an opinion it's laughable! Is that your way of thinking? If it is, I give up!
LOL!!All time lists????? Now all time lists count so much to you???? That list of the Bloodhorse means so much to you? They rank Secretariat second best. They rank Arts and Letters 21 spots lower than Majestic Prince. They rank Damascus 10 spots lower than Dr Fager. They ran Affirmed lower than Bid, yet he beat Bid. They rank Skip Away better than Formal Gold.
@loujr92173 Very true. They put S.S. slimly ahead of Easy Goer in the thirties.Very true. But Easy Goer was always no doubt a top ten all timer in talent,ability,constitution,speed-stamina record combo, with the proof of this coming from his many top 10 all time performances at every distance,6.5F,7F,8F,9F,10F,12F, but what sent EG down into the thirties where s.s. always belonged? Pat Day's typically atrocious riding which got him beat a nose &desperation neck in 2 races.
The great equalizer=Pat Day's self admitted despicable riding costing him by an inch and desperate neck in two races. And yes,Pat Day's despicable riding in the Whitney and Woodward, proved that SS,by an inch and desperate neck, was the only horse who could take full adv. of Day's despicable riding.
Logic? Californian expert Bill Christine's logic is faulty? Or Bill Nack,Crist,Edwin Pope, Pat Day's(since he was so great) self admitted wasn't logical?
Logic? Pat Day rode EG despicably bad also in the Whitney and Woodward, but of course SS, by an inch and desperate neck, was the only horse who could take advantage of Day's despicable riding. Yet, Easy Goer still beat SS by a much farther margin in the Belmont, than he beat all those other horses
Travers,Whitney,Champagne,Suburban,Gotham,Woodward,Jockey Club Gold Cup! Who was the jockey aboard EG? it couldn't of Pat Day or he would of lost them all. According to your faulty logic!
How did SS get his ass kicked by 8 lengths in the Belmont? How did SS lose a GRADE 2 race to Prized, another horse EG also kicked and demolished. How did SS lose 3 times at Hollywood Parfk? How did both horses lose to Criminal Type, yet the supposed better horse,SS, had to give him less weight than the supposed lesser horse had to give away,EG.
Scorecard? Yep, just like Noor beat big Citation on the scoreboard. Beau Purple beat Kelso on the scoreboard. Wajima beat Forego on the scoreboard. So did Interco beat John Henry of the scoreboard. SS definitely was a Beau Purple,Noor,Wajima,Interco type of horse.
You guys seem to forget about a little race called the Kentucky Derby, in which Easy Goer was soundly beaten by 2 and half lengths! Let me guess, The track was to blame.
LOL!Wood Memorial?????? Easy Goer won the Belmont by a much farther margin vs SS than he did vs other horses!!!! Easy Goer=record 3 yr old mile of all time in 1:32:2,second fastest Belmont of all time vs. SS w/only Secretariat ever faster, many of the most prestigious races on or near track records- Belmont,Travers,Whitney,Champagne,Suburban,Gotham,etc...Belmont,Travers,Whitney,Woodward,Jockey Club Gold Cup
Go back and look at the Wood Memorial. Easy Goer is basically running by himself against nobody! Greatness is achieved in clutch situations versus your fiercest rival! Sorry, but EG came up short against a better rival! You guys have convinced yourselves that the losing horse is somehow the winner.
Now you don't even know that Easy Goer beyered over 126 and 124 in two races that SS was in? Well he was, and yes, this Classic was the only race that SS ever beyered over 120 in his life. The great equalizer=Pat Day's despicable riding costing him by an inch and desperate neck in two races.
Was Sunday Silence in the races in which EG posted all of those high beyers and fast times. No he wasn't. Was Pat Day aboard Easy Goer when he posted all of those high beyers and fast times? Yes he was. You guys have selective memory and it kills your argument!
@loujr92173 LOL!! YES Easy Goer was in those races!!!! Easy Goer-126 beyer in the Belmont...And they both got a 124 beyer in the Classic, that was the only 120+ or higher beyer that SS ever ran in his his career.
Not only the "deliberate, passive, horrible" Pat Day riding,&the Pat Day "rode Easy Goer like the exposed end of a live wire",as the way he rode all of his mounts &it costing many of them, but what did Pat Day do wrong strictly against s.s. in these two races? "Start&stop, start &stop, stop& start, start &stop" Pat Day riding is what led to the whisker&neck losses vs another great in s.s. ALOT of truly all time great horses very well would have lost by a whisker&neck vs. ss with that type of riding
Hence, why a whole chapter in Drape's book,Race for the Triple Crown, focuses on Day's "horrible, passive, deliberate" riding. Hence, also the "Pat Day rode EG like the exposed end of a live wire." But that is the way Pat Day rode so many horses and it cost many of them.
Why didn't Sunday Silence fade in the stretch of the Preakness? You guys talk about EG's beyer figures and super fast times. But when the two horses ran in the same race, EG ran differently and I think it had more to do with Sunday Silence's ability and heart than anything else.
I agree, you leg up Cordero,Bailey,Pincay a top Easy Goer and Easy Goer does not lose by a whisker and neck in these two races vs another great in s.s.
Easy Goer was simply the vastly faster horse. Easy Goer ran seven or eight 120+ or higher beyers in his career(double more than any horse since Bid,including Ghostzapper,Skip Away,Alysheba,Cigar,Holy Bull,John Henry,Curlin,Zenyatta,Tiznow, etc), while SS ran ONE!!ONE! The great equalizer=Pat Day's despicable riding.
Wow! Is the gallop out after the race now considered an actual part of the race? SS has to check up down the backstretch and loses a ton of momentum, but I never hear any you mention that! Stop making excuses!
In the Classic? Like Bill Nack &Edwin Pope on target excerpts: "After breaking a little slow, Pat Day decided to do Nothing &let EG settle over 11 lengths back.Day cost EG a full head of steam down the backstretch. He put out the fire of a splendid champion in full flame(Day said he gave him a "breather when SS went around the far turn." Just as Day said he did to EG in the Preakness). If Day &McCarron switched mounts,or Cordero or Pincay rode Easy Goer, EG never gets beat a desperate neck."
Pat Day's despicable rides that cost him by an inch and desperate neck is it: Easy Goer, Hall of Fame champion who ran the fastest mile of all time by any 3 yr old in 1:32:2, second fastest Belmont of all time vs. the heavy favorite SS,with only Secretariat ever faster. Many of the most prestigious, championship(Belmont,Travers,Whitney,Suburban,Champagne,Gotham, etc) races on or near track records, and losses by an inch and desperate neck due to Pat Day's despicable riding.
Day's ride was so despicably bad in the Preakness that even the Californian expert Bill Christine stated the obvious about all of Day's multiple mistakes just mentioned. It surely wasn't just Pat Day admitting the obvious about his own riding and calling it total rider error, or all the eastern experts, that is for sure.
Stretch duel in the Preakness? After all of Pat Day's mistakes earlier in the race, Easy Goer still wins the Preakness if Pat Day doesn't grab too much right line, while having a short lead, to cock EG's head to look back at SS, loses the lead by an inch, then straightens his head back out and EG regains the lead and gallops out way past SS. Day made 3 huge mistakes in the Preakness, while being totally outridden by P.Val's race riding and antics.
I feel Easy Goer's connections underestimated Sunday Silence! EG was billed as the second coming at the time. The east coast media hype behind the horse was unreal and it was reflected in the odds each time the two horses ran! I think it burns that an unwanted horse who was bought for 32K impeded Easy Goer from becoming the horse you all wanted! Sorry!
That stretch duel in the Preakness was legendary! Easy Goer looked Sunday Silence square in the eye and the big black colt didn't back down! Pat V., who had a ton of issues off the track, outrode Pat Day and later in the Classic, McCarron would do the same!
pat day rode easy goer to a ton of big wins and is among the all time greats! But it seems to me that either him or the horse seem to come up short when going up against the 1989 Horse of the Year!
Besides Drape's book having a good portion of a chapter on it. Also, IMO I agree with what many of the racing experts stated from both coasts(Christine,Crist,Pope,Nack,Hirsch, etc) and even trainers Wayne Lukas &Woody Stephens stated, but stated the most correct by Paul Moran of espn,"Easy Goer was the better, more extraordinary, phenomenal, outstanding horse, but was defeated by a whisker and desperate neck in 2 races because Pat Day rode him like the exposed end of a live wire." So true IMO.
Who was a Hall of Fame eclipse award champion who ran the fastest mile ever run by any 3 yr old in 1:32:2, second fastest Belmont of all time, many of the most prestigious races right on track records, and lost by an inch in MD and by a desperate neck in FL due to despicable Pat Day riding
Hype doesn't get a horse into the Hall of Fame. Hype doesn't make a horse run the fastest mile ever by any 3 yr old, second fastest Belmont of all time, many of the most prestigious races right on track records, and beat Is It True 3 times
@loujr92173 EASY GOER beat Is It True 3 times prior to that race. That was why he won a year end award. SS will always be mentioned with Noor,Beau Purple,Wajima and Interco's, and there is nothing wrong with all these ahead on the scorecard horses.
SS will be remembered with and like a Beau Purple, Noor,Formal Gold,Big Spruce, Interco. Nothing wrong with all of these "Ahead on the scoreboard horses" over other legendary Hall of Fame horses.
LOL!No one remembers Easy Goer, the Hall of Fame eclipse champion who ran the fastest mile of all time by any three yr old, shattering Secretariat's record by a full second,a tick off Fager's world record, the second fastest Belmont of all time with only Secretariat ever faster, many of the most prestigious races right on track records, and who lost by an inch in MD& by a desperate neck in FL due to despicable Day riding. SS is remembered with Beau Purple and Noor, nothing wrong with that though.
You guys talk about the times Easy Goer lost as if they were some cheap claiming races! Easy Goer lost 4 of the 5 biggest races he ran in! The one he won was at his home track!
So why did SS get his ass kicked mercilessly in the Belmont? Why did SS lose a GRADE 2 to Prized, another horse whom got his ass kicked by EG? Why did SS lose three times at his home at Hollywood Park? Why did EG lose twice in KY by a length and two lengths in the two races? Why? Answer all of these questions?
Ass kicking? If you want to see an ass kicking, go watch the 1989 Belmont and see a real ass kicking Easy Goer gave SS. If you call losing by an inch and desperate neck in two races an ass kicking, then so be it.
Also, Easy Goer absolutely did NOT lose by an inch in MD or by a desperate neck in FL due to what state the two races were run in,that would be terribly insulting to SS(saying that SS only won the two races in MD&FL b/c of what state they were run in & EG lost by an inch in MD &neck in FL).Also,EG's connections chose to run him16 of 20 races,in the most prestigious, championship races which were run in NY(like Kelso,Forego,Tom Fool, etc), but EG lost by an inch&desp. neck due to despicable riding.

But I guess you guys don't see that when your horse loses.
loujr92173 3 weeks ago

Its unfair!

EASYGOERFLIES 2 months ago
Same horse?Well Kelso lost 3 of 4 to the same horse in huge older horse(people say non restricted older horse races are even better&bigger) races.Citation lost four to Noor is non restricted older horse races. So did Forego,John Henry,Skip Away,Dr. Fager all in non restricted open older horse races.None of these were in"reg season" races,&I also don't think the Belmont,Travers,Whitney,Woodward,Suburban,JClub Gold Cup are "reg season" races.More champs have won these than the Derby,Preak,Classic
EASYGOERFLIES 2 months ago
But those loses happened! And they happened when it mattered most. People dont remember the regular season they remember the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Sadly, for you guys Easy Goer lost yhe sports most important races to the same horse!
loujr92173 2 months ago
Like Joe Hirsch said, same thing as I said, just different words. Same thing, just different words
DELMARCLUB1 2 months ago 23
I didn't say that. I said Easy Goer was always a top ten all time thorobred in talent, ability, constitution, speed stamina record combo, as evidenced by his many, many top ten all timer performances at every distance, but what sent EG down into the thirties where ss always belonged was nose and desperation neck losses due to Pat Day's typically atrocious riding.

If your argument is solely based on the scoreboard, then Citation,Kelso,Forego,Skip Away,John Henry should all be ranked lower than the horses who were ahead of them on the scoreboard, and Dr Fager should be ranked equal to Damascus.

DELMARCLUB1 2 months ago 6
The great equalizer=Pat Day's self admitted despicable riding costing him by an inch and desperate neck in two races. And yes,Pat Day's despicable riding in the Whitney and Woodward, proved that SS,by an inch and desperate neck, was the only horse who could take full adv. of Day's despicable riding.

@loujr92173 LOL!! YES Easy Goer was in those races!!!! Easy Goer-126 beyer in the Belmont...And they both got a 124 beyer in the Classic, that was the only 120+ or higher beyer that SS ever ran in his his career.
EASYGOERFLIES 2 months ago
Not only the "deliberate, passive, horrible" Pat Day riding,&the Pat Day "rode Easy Goer like the exposed end of a live wire",as the way he rode all of his mounts &it costing many of them, but what did Pat Day do wrong strictly against s.s. in these two races? "Start&stop, start &stop, stop& start, start &stop" Pat Day riding is what led to the whisker&neck losses vs another great in s.s. ALOT of truly all time great horses very well would have lost by a whisker&neck vs. ss with that type of riding
flylion132 2 months ago
Hence, why a whole chapter in Drape's book,Race for the Triple Crown, focuses on Day's "horrible, passive, deliberate" riding. Hence, also the "Pat Day rode EG like the exposed end of a live wire." But that is the way Pat Day rode so many horses and it cost many of them.
flylion132 2 months ago
Why didn't Sunday Silence fade in the stretch of the Preakness? You guys talk about EG's beyer figures and super fast times. But when the two horses ran in the same race, EG ran differently and I think it had more to do with Sunday Silence's ability and heart than anything else.
loujr92173 2 months ago
I agree, you leg up Cordero,Bailey,Pincay a top Easy Goer and Easy Goer does not lose by a whisker and neck in these two races vs another great in s.s.

McCarron,Valenzuela,Cordero,Pincay,Bailey all routinely outrode Pat Day, that indeed was true.
flylion132 2 months ago

Stop making excuses!
loujr92173 2 months ago
In the Classic? Like Bill Nack &Edwin Pope on target excerpts: "After breaking a little slow, Pat Day decided to do Nothing &let EG settle over 11 lengths back.Day cost EG a full head of steam down the backstretch. He put out the fire of a splendid champion in full flame(Day said he gave him a "breather when SS went around the far turn." Just as Day said he did to EG in the Preakness). If Day &McCarron switched mounts,or Cordero or Pincay rode Easy Goer, EG never gets beat a desperate neck."
EASYGOERFLIES 2 months ago
Pat Day's despicable rides that cost him by an inch and desperate neck is it: Easy Goer, Hall of Fame champion who ran the fastest mile of all time by any 3 yr old in 1:32:2, second fastest Belmont of all time vs. the heavy favorite SS,with only Secretariat ever faster. Many of the most prestigious, championship(Belmont,Travers,Whitney,Suburban,Champagne,Gotham, etc) races on or near track records, and losses by an inch and desperate neck due to Pat Day's despicable riding.
EASYGOERFLIES 2 months ago
Day's ride was so despicably bad in the Preakness that even the Californian expert Bill Christine stated the obvious about all of Day's multiple mistakes just mentioned. It surely wasn't just Pat Day admitting the obvious about his own riding and calling it total rider error, or all the eastern experts, that is for sure.
EASYGOERFLIES 2 months ago
Stretch duel in the Preakness? After all of Pat Day's mistakes earlier in the race, Easy Goer still wins the Preakness if Pat Day doesn't grab too much right line, while having a short lead, to cock EG's head to look back at SS, loses the lead by an inch, then straightens his head back out and EG regains the lead and gallops out way past SS. Day made 3 huge mistakes in the Preakness, while being totally outridden by P.Val's race riding and antics.

EASYGOERFLIES 2 months ago 3
Also, Easy Goer absolutely did NOT lose by an inch in MD or by a desperate neck in FL due to what state the two races were run in,that would be terribly insulting to SS(saying that SS only won the two races in MD&FL b/c of what state they were run in & EG lost by an inch in MD &neck in FL).Also,EG's connections chose to run him16 of 20 races,in the most prestigious, championship races which were run in NY(like Kelso,Forego,Tom Fool, etc), but EG lost by an inch&desp. neck due to despicable riding.
