Taking pictures at market is such a wonderful thing -- you get the most beautiful pictures. I live in Hohoe in the Volta Region during the summers, and aside from taking pictures of my student at the Volta School for the Mentally Challenged, market photos are my favourite. Ghana is a beautiful place with beautiful people, and everyone is so happy. It's nothing like what the media wants me to think, and people need to realise that.

The "poor but happy" or "blissfully unaware of their poverty" line is one I always find condescending. Ghanaians are quite aware of international trade practices that undermine lucrative economic growth and/or exploits sought-after resources/exports in Ghana. They make the best of their lives, like any given person, but they certainly have some understanding of the way post-independence external forces produces local poverty to this day.

Taking pictures at market is such a wonderful thing -- you get the most beautiful pictures. I live in Hohoe in the Volta Region during the summers, and aside from taking pictures of my student at the Volta School for the Mentally Challenged, market photos are my favourite. Ghana is a beautiful place with beautiful people, and everyone is so happy. It's nothing like what the media wants me to think, and people need to realise that.

Nima is the poorest place in Accra (I spent a night there). I swear; the only thing westerners are interested in is showing how miserable Africans are supposed to be. I'm half Ghanaian/Canadian -- When I was in Ghana things were not so bleak. As you can see, even people from Nima are bright and full of life.
Perhaps instead of having people donate cameras you can have them invest in the local economy. This camera idea is absolutely ridiculous, if not condescending.

Just because the majority of African-Americans originate from west africa doesn't mean their features are the standard. Egypt is connected to the rest of Africa(Sudan etc), and it reached far into the south of his borders. Thus, meaning its people were what would be defined as native Africans.

The "poor but happy" or "blissfully unaware of their poverty" line is one I always find condescending. Ghanaians are quite aware of international trade practices that undermine lucrative economic growth and/or exploits sought-after resources/exports in Ghana. They make the best of their lives, like any given person, but they certainly have some understanding of the way post-independence external forces produces local poverty to this day.
