  • very fine playing!

  • anyone can buy their way into yale....or curtis. You know that. Otherwise you wouldn't be here waxing on

  • Hej Nikolai. Fremragende spillet.

  • SO MANY ASIANS

    awesome playing

  • He has a very mannered way of playing which involves "overplaying" phrases, as well as an emphasis on getting a meaty sound - all of which begs a comparison, unfortunately, with Pinchas Zukerman.....

  • its so beautiful :)

  • His intonation is superb, a few live moments here, but overall absolutely superb, truly one of the few great violinists left, him, Gil Shaham, Julia Fischer - that's about it for current, popular, prof. players, the rest have bad vibrato, bad intonation, no passion, lack musicality, and play like machines. The moment at around 6:30 has a sound and character that very few can come even close to - end of story... People don't listen with their soul anymore. They do not understand true music.

  • @adamfrandsen you mean like you? who are you???

  • @astramaia Someone who is passionate about music - in all genres by the way. Someone who takes offense to negative comments about things that are obviously in their own league. I have listened to the people I mentioned live and have enjoyed their playing, especially Julia Fischer, she really touched me. I hear so much bad music, so many crappy instrumentalists and vocalists in all genres. The focus was once a talent itself, now it is about the talent to acquire a skill and abuse it.

  • @adamfrandsen Bottom feeder. It's obvious.

  • @astramaia See how this changed into me having a debate with myself, I quite enjoyed it. You had the great chance of joining in, but I guess you opted out with this comment - it just confuses me a bit when people engage in something without truly being engaged. It is almost as if some people dont think before they speak - they just utter whatever comes to mind first, and which sounds strong and maybe provoking too. Just like members of a certain party I can see you support from your profile...

  • @astramaia I also find it quite funny how "Bottom Feeder" was not one of the adjectives used when I was first accepted to Yale and then later to the Curtis Institute of Music. I actually don't believe it to be used very often by developed minds - it is sort of non progressive in a way... Doesn't really further anything does it?...

  • @adamfrandsen Often times it is even enough if other people think you know what you are doing. Then you can make a living from living up to a zero-aesthetics standard and support a never ending downwards spiral towards pre-meassured, pre-shaped, pre-packaged, mass produced and mass appealing indifferent entertainment. I agree that it is a problem that amateurs can voice their opinion on an equally weighted public platform like youtube, when there are more interesting prof. measurements available

  • @adamfrandsen I listen to a lot of classical music, most of my friends are classical musicians. I know there are other good violinists, I know that there may be some that would generally be accepted as better, or that I might think sounded better if I heard them. I can just sense from a certain way of argumentation on what basis it was founded, and so I react in accordance. I would never go to a Hilary Hahn video and post negative stuff about her, because I had a preference to someone else.

  • @adamfrandsen I know she is phenomenal, I can hear, see and feel that, it is quite obvious to anyone. So, when people make stupid comments about intonation here, it makes me angry. I don't like to experience that people who work a lifetime to perfect their art, can be judged so loosely and unfounded as is often the case on youtube. On the other hand I love a good debate, and I think that it is okay to have a difference of opinion. But a good debate is limited to the lowest intellect in it.

  • @adamfrandsen and I do believe there is such a thing as a musical intellect, in fact I believe there are several musical intellects that can work together and against each other. Therefore I also believe that some have more to say on the subject than others, and while music is for everyone, there is no harm in emphasizing that some do it better than others and so deserve admiration and recognition. That can be done without harming or insulting others, and I am sorry if I offended you.

  • ears, of course

  • His intonation is almost perfect. You have to wash your years and go to practice game.He is a very very good violinist and he play tempered intonation.

  • His intonation is not impeccably focused, but it is not terrible either. I met him a violin festival a few years ago, and he didn't seem particulary bad. Not an angel, but who is.

Besides, a compelling performance doesn't require pitch perfect intonation. That is a late 20th century obsession that is making more and more violinist sound like other. Just my opinion.

  • @trevorpinnocky Absolutely. Intonation is subjective, often a means of musical expression. Amateurs love to talk abt. intonation - they think they're impressing people. Heifetz and Francescatti often vibrated to the high side (especially when the orch. was too loud) - did they have "bad" intonation? Of course not. It was a conscious choice. Znaider's playing here is a bit sloppy and he drops a few too many notes in the fast passage work to qualify for the majors, but he's very good.

  • don't like this violinist. besides, he is a horrible person .It isn't flawless either. the intonation isn't up to scratch let alone his poor interpretation of this music. all the phrases are chopped up . you can see him screaming -its meeee, meee, look at meee, meee. Not a very convincing playing. Mr. Znaider Oh my God!!! the more I listen to him the more i can hear his poor intonation

  • @MsBoratrules: why do you say he's a horrible person? what is the reason for that?

  • Comment removed

  • @MsBoratrules you have to practice more and check your intonation.

  • Comment removed

  • @MsBoratrules what's wrong with you? Did he dump you? You sound like a fellow student whose admiration wasn't returned. Almost obsessive. Get over it! Badmouthing an artist's personality on the internet - this says more about you than about him.

  • don't like this violinist. besides, he is a horrible person

  • 06:24 Nice rendition.

  • so hot!!!!

  • Nice performing from Nikolaj , I know him when he was student in Royal Music Conservatory in Copenhagen , I like the beginning of the first part of the first movement , but I think there are some technical passage he is just trying to finished quickly , and in the Cadenza when he play the high artificial harmonic tone the second one it doesn’t come out , but as I said he is a great Violinist .

  • Very impressiv!!

  • @KosteckiAdam not really. can't you hear his intonation full of flaws?

  • @MsBoratrules

I think you have a personal problem with him and maybe you're not objective, I have heard him in live and he's a great violinist. Unfortunately I don't know him personally.

  • nikolaj & Tchaikovsky in one ... can there be more gorgeous on earth !!! lovely stuff ! both my heros in one go!
