Per Ardua ad Astra

the RAF stopped the invasion of Britain, operation sea-lion was dependent on air superiority and the Germans thought that within 6 weeks the RAF would be completely destroyed and they could invade, how wrong they were, when Goring asked what his airforce needed to beat the RAF one of his highest ranking officers (Adolf Galland i think,) said "a squadron of spitfires", Goring was not impressed:)
