  • Love the macaroni in Cairo, love the food vendors.. Egypt is special on its own way.. I hope insyaAllah a better life and economy in Egypt...

  • Gives a good depiction of Egypt before the revolution.

  • While watching the protests on Al-Jazerra, I kept thinking about this segment; how clairvoyant.

  • "This is a ticking time bomb that will one day explode" How right he was, how right he was...

  • Message from an Iranian protester: PLEASE READP.

Last year we got to the same point as Egypt is facing now. We were million of people outside protesting anti Ahmadinejad and Khamenee's Regime, and they sent us undercover police to people and they killed alot. One of them was Neda. WE GAVE UP at that moment and after few days we went home. now it has been almost two years that we are home. MY EGYPTIAN FRIENDS: DON NOT GIVE UP AT THIS TIME. FIGHT WITH THEM. Look at Iran situsation and decide.

  • Thats a big ladel!

  • Uploaded on my birthday =P

  • Its not a role for any govt to provide everything for the people, govt is supposed to protect the people not provide entitlements to the people.

  • @Fellopian22 ,,Dear You are mistaken u cant say ANY GOvernment cant provide everything. Alhamdulillah I am proud to call myself a Canadian ,,, Government is providing everything to ppl who can't afford. Believe me, my Government is providing Free shelters , free FOOD , free clothes, free treatments, meds and all the things that an individual will need to survive and ofcourse it is coming out from our pockets that are TAX payers No harsh feeligs dear, but i am telling u about a GOVERNMENT :)

  • @adilah2008nov That is not a fare comparison. Canada is significantly wealthier than Egypt, has less people, and contains a wealth of natural resources. We Canadians have oil, minerals, metals, diamonds, and endless Forrest making our economy rich. We can afford our high standard of living.

  • @thinkingsongs1 ,,,, Dear my comment was in response to this

Its not a role for any govt to provide everything for the people, govt is supposed to protect the people not provide entitlements to the people.

    Fellopian22 2 months ago

As the User Fellopian22 stated "Its not a role for any govt to provide everything for the people" ,,,, ANY GOvernment . That is why I told him that there are countries in the world that try to provide EVERYTHING.

  • wahasthini Qahera !

  • Great City !

  • She's beautiful, AND she's lisping!

  • What a bunch of bull shit. My family is from Egypt, and we go there every year. The only reason there are a bunch of poor people in the cities is because people came from the country to find a better life. They should go back to where they came from.

  • @abx93ify better yet why not kill this bunch of poor people?Myabe u need to go back where your family came from.

  • @hellcommandoz have you ever been to egypt? maybe you should think before you say stuff you dont know you idiot!

  • @abx93ify They should go back to where they came from>>>That is what YOU wrote. So what is wrong me telling you to go back where u came from.

Poor people come to the city looking for jobs BECAUSE they cant get job in the countryside.WHY should they go back from where they came from?

  • @hellcommandoz I'm sorry for being angry, and I hope you accept. You see, my Egyptian side of the family is very educated, either professors or doctors, and my point of view is that before the people from the country migrated into the cities, life there was alot better. There was organization, order, enough food, hardly any street people, I could go on. But the fact is, Egypt is not the way it used to be, and with what went on this year, itll take a long time to get things back to normal.

  • @abx93ify Appology accepted. But please control your temper that way we can all be more sensible when we make comments on a public space like youtube.I hope the economic situation in Egypt will improve.

  • That was pointless....there's food shortage everywhere (staples or wot ever it may be)....this was really disappointing, and even some wot depressing....Ill stay in Canada, thank you...sure it talked about food, but gives any viewer a guilt trip....ugh!!

  • The dollars is devaluing which in turn rises the cost of food. World devaluation of currencies is currently happening and it is getting expensive everywhere around the world.

  • what is the bitch talking about street food or political issues,or price rise.

  • You know guys Egypt is a very reach country but sadly there are too many poores in it

  • egyptian people are far from civilized, they are savages and only their religion holds them back from killing and raping, and since religion is fake they are a race of retards named mohammed

enta masry kois mosh gamed, kosom masr we kosom islam

  • @irunxboxlive The god will show you the meaning of saying bad words about Islam

  • Kos Omak Ya Ibn El Mara EL Metnaka - U know what ur such a fucking ingnorant son of a bitch where u from ?

  • Is this show is about street food or about Egypt potical issue

  • 21 July my birthday

  • "Moolokhiah" mentioned from 1:37 to 1: 53 , translates to "kings dish".

  • it seems that in Egypt there are many, many very rich people (18% of the 'richest' of the world?)...at the same time, also too many poors.

In this situation the gouvernment can really do a lot.

Egypt is a rich country, it has great incomes from tourism, it must get a new path to improve the quality of life of each one in this country.

let's hope that they will be able to run this wonderful country in order to have a sensitive improvement of the quality of life.

  • شعب طيب جدا بس حكومه ظالمه شويه لواءات شرطه او جيش دمرو البلد تماما حولوها لخراب تام

  • ZOG that's the worldwide problem!!!

  • Very nice City. One of a kind.

  • I have visit this country 2 years ago .People are very friendly but unfortunately very very poor . Many of them are very upset about the local guvernement .

  • tel::+44 07903232866

  • @likemikey93 yes because THAT is very cheap...

  • Mr. Asqulani has no idea what he is talking about. Sure businessmen of large corporations may hog huge portions of their profits, but corporations control very little of Egypt's economy. It is dominated by the small business owners and they need to keep up with the rampant demands of the Egyptian people in terms of salary and what not. So as a result, when Egyptians end up wanting to earn more from the money being printed without working harder, then prices have to go up!

  • yeah,,, but still the PROPER HYGIENE is the most important for the food we eat... being clean is important... what if they dont have clean water to use in cooking?? also in washing their hands?? well... well... wel... also why they love the "SMELL" in their food whcih is same wid the SMELL of sweating armpit??lol.. these smell came from "onions/pepper" in their foods..lol

  • Today, Egypt's leading Egyptologist, Dr Zahi Hawass, has revealed caves under Giza plateaux

  • yo mama is stupid

  • Fast food is too expensive? Not with the Mcdonald's $1 menu in Cairo....

But yeah local food is far tastier... what I would do to have a feteera (Egyptian stuffed pancake) delivered to me in the US...

  • Yeah, of course, who would trade the Arabic delicious food for the American fast food?

  • stuffed with what :) ?

  • stuffed with anything u want, like pizza toppings, only it could also be sweet (e.g. honey, cream butter, sugar powder and pistachios)

Popular choices would be sausages and cheese.

  • and what got americans into that ??!

  • Chicken hawks who tried to get American people to hate all Arabs in support of Iraq invasion.

  • mmm listen there is nothing called nation hate another its just the problem of limited amount of people so the hell with people make'n propaganda for hatred and peace up ma friend from egypt

  • well the fact that George Bush was elected to 2nd term as president shows it wasn't just a limited number of people who follow such nonsense.

  • believe they are limited but the problem they got power and money when the day those two is taken from them they will wake up

  • indeed! it is mother of the world and the reason i am saying this is world's history started here.

  • Not really, it started in mesopotamia, Iraq...

  • I think she's very cute! Does anyone think she's very attractive??

  • @TonicEnergy very attractive!:D

  • WOW!! Delicious food. Al Jazeera should cut the lecture on economics n focus more on gastronomic delights while making vids on street food.

  • October 1989 the first and the last time I been in Cairo. I want to go back very soon.

    I love Cairo.

  • Type in, "DrDavidNeiman" and watch his lectures about the Sumerian inluences in Egyptian civilization.

  • mother of the world? i think you dreaming.tell me why every body cry there and half of you poor and drug and prost and much more- wake up

  • It is the oldest civilization of the world. Human started civilization in this area. so this is mother of the world.

  • I thought Iraq was the 'cradle of civilization'........

  • Iraq is the cradle of civilization - not Egypt.

  • um no! Read history.. Arabs are NOT Ancient Egyptians! So Arabs are not the oldest civilization of the world, stupid bitch.

  • I felt so sad seeing these sellers... :-( Why the Municipal Council always made problems for lower income people? Why not give license to allow them to operate on the pavements at certain hours of the day... :-( Even in my country, this council created problem...sigh... solve the problem but not chasing them and lock them up.

  • yeah, it is very sad, years ago there were many vendors sellin' roast corn on the cob, tacos and fruit, now these folks have to have a license or they're not able to work their stand.= (

  • I love this series, thanks Al Jazeera!

  • oh me too! makes me wanna go to all the cities.

  • i am very sad to hear this i was born in Egypt and i migrated to Australia more then 45 years ago. at that time Egypt was 28 mil. people now more than 80mill sadly there is no birth control in Egypt that is the main problem one must remember only 4% of the land is cultivated.

  • I always dream to step into this country since i was grade 4!!

  • I dreamed of it too all my life. I finally went, three times. You must go! But I went a long time ago when it wasn't so busy with tourists. It was nice then.

  • 1 USD = about 5.3 EG Pound

    1 EG Pound = 0.18 USD

what do u expect from them...have to survive the day no metter what it takes...

  • Am i the only one who think Miss Hamouche sounds sexy when she spoke Arabic!

  • No dude!! your not the only one, I wonder where she's from ? does anyone know ? Does she have an email or anthying , i'm not a stalker i just want to compliment her on her work .

  • Yeah me neither know from where she is. I all know that she's fluent in Arabic, French & English. i love the way she presented the show

  • she's eiither from Algeria, Morocco, or Tunisia

  • In the Fez episode of Street Food she said that she has a berber ancestry, Thanks anyway!

  • well then she's aglerian then, berbers are in algeria

  • Yup! here's the Fez episode link:

    Part 1 --> watch?v=o9GO4qtcFn0

    Part 2 --> watch?v=K4mvo2vQjlM

  • There's a significant population in Morocco as well. Berber distribution doesn't really fall along national borders and they are pretty broadly distributed all across north africa. Wonderfully interesting culture.

  • I think she is Morocco. She looks very Moroccan.

  • algerienne

  • What? you mean she's from Algeria?

  • you just wnt her vagine

  • Kkkkkkkkk i would be nice if i know her too...

  • Fight Fast Food, it retards the Mind and the Spirit. Fast Food makes you addicted to porn, It happened to my poor brother, so we had to kill him to put him out of his misery! It was a tough, yet necessary decision.

  • lol

  • Egypt is a bomb which is about to explode if the International community does not step in and help it. We can not afford to let down the oldest educated civilization in the area go down the tubes.

  • Don't kid yourself, the whole world and the international community is also about to explode. Egypt is not an exception. It is only dear to your heart because you love it it's yours

  • Good job :)

  • where is the Street food it's all nakad!Misery , poverty ...etc as the breadwoman mentioned , our president should look around at our poor people

  • ...I'd be wary about the stats from the economist...They are quite conservative in their leaning...Furthermore, emprical data can be twisted to be tailor made to fit any scenerio...

  • Egypt is the future retirement capital of Americans

  • true alot of old americans live here, you gotta love cairo

  • why is that

  • @hassanbadawi no way i dont want to live again in cairo

  • why is that

  • yes there r obese ppl i egypt, no doubt, like everywhere else in da world but highter percentage than america, O plz spare me that BS.

  • less than $2 a day. no one in America could possibly live on that. what is the government doing over there to help raise the minimum wages?? thanks for the episode. hope to see more Street Food episodes soon.

  • why would the government (aka the dictatorship) do that?? it would cost them the money they're robbing from the egyptians!

  • True, but the economy is different. You can buy a lot more for $2 a day in the Egyptian market.

  • @sweetab24 you don'nt know anything about us

  • damn I am suddenly very hungry

  • Free Puerto Ricoooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...You would never know there was a food shortage, there is so much eating going on...Furthermore, why is the economist so fat?...

  • i don't know maybe he should pray and fast though

  • Mmmmm...McDonalds!

  • A very thought-provoking report. There are no easy solutions. Raising prices will become inevitable if the subsidies are not increased. The rich will evade higher taxes so that means the government must control some profitable monopolies to keep the means to redistribute the wealth by careful subsidies. Furthermore, there must be no graft, nor corruption. It's a tall order !

  • Fortunately Egypt has the Nile Delta where much agriculture occurs. But the pop. got too high. And in recent yrs. the govt. has shifted dramatically towards the Globalist Agenda.(like most nations) leaving the vulnerable even more vulnerable in Cairo. Want to be a social worker ? ... then move to Cairo

  • just when i thought i had it bad its true that theres always someone( in this case a whole nation) else that has it worse. Very informative journalism. I wonder if its anything i could to to help those people.

  • does anyone know the background music playing starting at 0:15??

  • And who is going to PAY for these subsidies? Not the poor because they don't have the funds. But everyone else! Gee, maybe the campaigners should learn basic math. If it is indeed corporations and government that impose high prices, the answer is then to act tough on these corporations and impose regulations. So much mud being thrown from all sides, it's all politics.
