  • please take me back i dont like now

  • Nice bit of nostalgia, yeah we are flawed but still a great country.

  • No thanks to getting the British Empire back together - not many Aussies or Kiwis would want it - and good luck trying to dominate India for a second time!

  • Yeah, this nation has done a lot of things first and I think we should be proud.

  • God Save The Queen. Long live the Queen.

  • What the Hell went wrong, someone has a lot to answer for. Bring on the Revolution.

  • What a find. Great commentary

  • Man this reeks of propaganda.

  • Funny how I only see white people looool what evers happened since :(

  • WHAT HAVE WE TURNED INTO NOW!?!?!?!?!?!

  • I miss this time, the time when communitys were closer and you could do more things.

  • @Corporatism To be honest, i think we should leave the EU, take the country back.

  • Nice but in actual fact Rutherford was a New Zealander and the Germans invented the bicycle. But otherwise well done former world powerhouse UK plc

  • Now home to every Tom, Dick and Abdul.

  • R.I.P Britain you where great whilst you lasted.

  • R.I.P Justin, 1994-2010

  • Toadlickers in Britain:

    youtube.com/watch?v=5SuZMwe-XRc

  • @scotia3333 no problem

  • I'm amazed, it starts off very humble indeed, as if proclaiming 'we're nobody' then by the end they note: "oh, but we did invent pretty much everything in the modern world".

Bit of a contrast? British understatement anyone?

  • @3:49 "...and steam ships. And were then obliged to invent radar." Very droll.

  • I believe men should get equal pay to that of women in the noblest of professions, that being Pornography..now there's a contentious topic

  • 1.15 (1:09)

I know that old biddy with the hat, it is Frances from number 12 !

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • I love this clip!

  • Great Britain truly has the richest history the world has ever seen.

  • Britain, Britain, Britain. We invented clothing, as well as war to do away with all things foreign.

  • @Misterb0z Haha I love that quote.

  • its just amazing how many great scottish inventors there was ,,,,

  • @xcraig1961 scotland ? whats that

  • from 1/4 of the world to less than 1 american state hahha ! british empire my ass

  • get out while u can

  • @MrPblower We did. The daily news from Britain is the best comedy on the telly over here. You couldn't make it up!

  • and now today we have protests/riots in the streets over the governments decision to raise uni prices by almost 3 times as much which will take away the choice from lots of children of wether or not they go to uni.

along with a tun of other complete bs but this is in the news at the moment

  • @walker1054 It will only stop those going who shouldn't be going to univeristy anyway. The system is fair, if only people were to sit down and have a proper look at it instead of seize straight upon the £9000 figure.

  • @halogen123 no but £9000 is way too much of an increase to quickly. Th current is £3290 (what i pay) and i think that the fees shouldnt have went to more than £5000 straight away.

I agree that uni isnt worth much anymore and the standards are dropping since the education part isnt a main reason for a lot of people going to uni but £9000 tuition fees is too much.

But then again £9000 is just the max, im waiting for unis to release THEIR prices for next year before i start going crazy

    cool?

  • @walker1054 Dear Wally, Did Bernie Madoff go to uni? . Do you need to go to uni? . Just how many folk do need to go? . Just wondering. Cheers. from, del-boy.
  • @truthoutmedia Hm, there were, but it was less in the media's eye. You didn't see any black people from the UK in the media at all. It just wasn't talked about.

  • yeah when im in london i demand my right to be MEANINGFUL, ARGUEMENTATIVE and to STARE at ...people

  • you cant say tv was invented in one country. its in dispute. but i think the first country to broadcast tv pictures was UK

  • We could do without the horribleness at 1:13

  • anyone else notice "James Cameron" in the info?? lol

  • @aaronl22 James Cameron (1911-85) was one of the most distinguished of Britain's postwar journalists, and before the mid-1980s he would undoubtedly have been the first person most people would have thought of if they'd heard the name. Ironically, he died only a fortnight after the UK release of his namesake's film 'The Terminator', though the two events are not thought to be connected.

  • grat britain

  • Question: What is that Cloud-like thing going across in the background at 0:29? My first thought was that it was "Smokey" from Lost, but realizing that he is in fact on a different island, I thought maybe it was from a train...

  • @LookItsChristian thats a train, if you look closely you can see the outline of where the line is placed and removed trees

  • @ZomBSteve Thanks! That's what I thought, but I wasn't positive!

  • @Weeman44444444444444

    It's not that you're wicked,

    or naturally bad,

    it's knowing you're foreign,

    that makes you so mad.

    foxtrot oscar

  • @Weeman44444444444444 I bet its good knowing that you live in a country free of tyrants with a democratically elected goverment.......... Tosser

  • I love Britain, like this if you love everything good about Britain; the pubs, the hills, the rolling countryside, thatched rooves and all that.

  • Almost like poetry!

  • I wish they would make a modern day version like that!!!

  • shakti pravat

  • I wish people still spoke like that.

  • RULE BRITANNIA!

    :')

  • UK's PAST FTW!!!!

  • It's what makes Great Britain great! :)

  • No let's be realistic here Britain WAS the best country for a long time but we've now lost our identity. It's more Americanised than ever with people flocking from any old part in the world to get free houses and meals yet cant/wont speak English or contribute to society. There's no originality anymore!!

  • @fartedonyourface You are right there.

  • Let's have it right here Great Britain is the best country ever, we invented everything. we did everthing first and won every war going, don't mess. The only things we did'nt invent are things that nobody's interested in, the only wars we lost are the one's they didn't tell us about and the only things we didn't do first were'nt worth doing.

  • @69waveydavey agreed mate, and the thngs the scots invented is amazing.the list is endless and major inventions.

  • That was lovely (:

  • proud to be british

  • watch?v=nSG-awpIs4E

  • "But what about their own identity now?" So that discussion isn't exactly new either. Good to know Britain has survived the 46 years since, it might just survive the next 46 as well.

  • A fantastic system, the working men invent and inovate, London sells it off and pisses away the assets, the germans, Japanese and finally Chinese make better more reliable versions of everything and then sell it back to us, and we buy it. Not to worry cos everyone is that busy with their heads up their arses trying to keep up with the mortgage repayments to bother. The great British nostalgia trip, look back cos there ain't nothing ahead, Unless you work at aerospace or are a civil servant.

  • RE: discoveries by Britain: What bullsh*t!

The atom was first smashed by American Jews, hence the americans made the first atom bomb!

The first 'steam engine' was used by Greeks in in their ships around 600bc!

The Kurds invented the bicycle in Mesopotamia 4000BC!

No whonder the Brits are such ignorant pompous people, look at what the government feeds you! HAHAHA

  • @FreeSoulMind Oh dear! Google Lord Rutherford for chris' sake. It's true that Hero discovered the driving properties of steam but he never found a practical use for it. Wherever did you get the idea the Greeks could power ships with it? Absurd. And the bicycle was nothing without the pneumatic tyre. Ignorance and pomposity are human traits and can be found the world over. Regards, Pompous Bolobo

  • I just vomited

  • @Djinga Hi D...If I had to live in Portugal I would probably vomit on a daily basis too..

Not the cleanest place I've visited.

  • @RicTic66 A country full of people living in the past, living to work, paying off extorsionate mortgages just in time to die. OR A country full of people working to live. no need for winter fuel payments or wondering wether it's going to piss down all summer no mass importing of consumer shit, self sufficient in food and more importantly wine, longer life expectancy and a place where you can speak to strangers without fear of being bummed to death, really shit drivers though!

  • @69waveydavey Hi WD A country full of people I'll buy that. Sorry to be a pedant but UK life expectancy (& we have to figure Scotland in)79.9 Portugal 79.2.

Lived here all my life and no stranger has ever tried to violate me, although I did receive a few right handers for being a mouthy little sod.

I don't sit around wondering if summer will be damp I just appreciate the good days.

It is also very hard to buy consumer goods when you have the spending power of a bankrupt goat.

    Shit drivers :)

  • @RicTic66 I'm guessing your a southerner with a good job and 2.4 children. Leave wikipedia alone it's not all true.

  • @69waveydavey Good guess WD Sarf London born and bred, now exiled in the norf (Oxfordshire.) If all meaningful work is deemed good, then yes I do have good job shame it pays shit.

4.2 kids.. Wikipedia I think not.

My sister had a Hillman Imp I nicked it when I was 12 (very easy car to nick the Hillman Imp.) It had a lot of trouble with the head gasket if my memory serves me correctly.

  • @RicTic66 I'm guessing you're a Southerner, nice job, 2.4 kids. Stop using wikipedia. just cos it's on the net don't make it true. I'd rather die at 79.2 in the sunshine with friends than live to 79.9 and die of hyperthermia alone.

  • @69waveydavey Hypothermia WD Hypo being the prefix for below or under Hyper being the antonym.

This is the truth and I had absolutely no need to venture near any spurious knowledge sites.

We all die alone it's a very personal thing.

  • @RicTic66 you never commented on if you were a southerner or not!! Malcreada!

  • ............before it all went tits up!

  • @wasssuppp08 I highly doubt it. She's going to live for a while yet. Anyway, we've got another one waiting in the wings now :)

  • i did not know, we invented the sandvich!!!

  • @puremage000 the idea of putting something between bread is documented in Roman antiquity and it doesn't take a lot of imagination to think that it probably existed for a long time before that. Some over priveliged fat aristo puts his name to it though and that's it, it's invented, probably at a time when most people could hardly afford to eat bread let alone anything else with it. In the North of England anyway.

  • @Pipweed you're clearly an educated and leveled person, would you be my friend?

  • @Pipweed you are well hard

  • @90jlawson wat mate

  • Better in some ways worst in others.Every time has it's positives and negatives.

  • wow...facinating...

  • @DonkeyDelight Nope, neither is the Win an iPad thing, both scams, it was on Watchdog. They take you through pages of spiel, then you "simply enter your mobile phone number"..at the end. It's a scam, and you have to wonder wh y someone would bombard lots of different You Tube videoa with non-related adverts for "free gifts", come on.

  • @paddy07brentford

Propaganda mate, it wasn't so shiny, in fact it wasn't in colour until 1967.

  • And now it's a bankrupt,socialist shithole.

  • @express375

    who says socialism is bad?

  • @equalityftw Americans, and ignorant people. No ones ever really given true socialism a try yet.

  • @equalityftw Never caught on in Russia, and not doing to well in Cuba,UK,USA.

    It goes on and on.

Free market low taxes work, socialism doesn't. Never will.

  • @express375

    low taxes?? cut services???

I prefer high taxes to the state for the better of the UK and keeping front line services as they are

  • @equalityftw you prefer high taxes because you are obviously not a wealth creator, just a taker. if you tax the wealth people create too highly, people will stop producing things and everyone will be worse off. did that honestly never cross your mind?

  • @scottishlad1987

Well if I was a taker wouldnt I prefer low taxes? I prefer high taxes so the government can put it back into the economic system therefore production WOULD NOT STOP, remember like when Gordon brown did it during the recession and he saved the uk banking system? Because he spent and kept the productivity rolling

  • @equalityftw shit, you really have absolutely no idea about economics. or maybe it's just a lack of common sense. right, so you think that the government taking money off some people and giving it to others helps increase demand for goods- tell me, how is the government spending my £1,000 better for the economy than spending it myself? in fact, everyone can spend more wisely and invest more wisely for themselves than the government can for them.

  • @equalityftw and no, if you're a producer you would prefer low taxes. but that would still make you a giver, not a taker. but you obviously take these peoples money, and that's why you love tax.

about gordon brown saving the banking sector, first of all, he doesn't have his own money, he took it from the british people and gave it to the banks. secondly, he spent so much that we're in the biggest debt per capita out of any of the g20 countries. the money for the banks makes up roughly %3 of it.

  • @scottishlad1987

Tax is not about taking peoples money its about using that money and putting it back into the public sector to keep the cycle running. People have paid taxes since the dawn of time this is how life and society works.

Of course Gordon brown used the british peoples money but the point is that he kept the public services all the way down to the local A and Es running at top level unlike the torys. UK was one of first EU countries to pull out of recession greece was the worst.

  • @equalityftw what do you mean, "putting it back" into the public sector? it came from the private sector. the government takes from the private sector, which is meant to be the vast majority of the economy, and gives it to the public sector, which is meant to be tiny in comparison. if we had a smaller public sector we would have more people to pay taxes and less people to pay, which would mean lower taxes and everyone would be better off, instead of this socialist nightmare.

  • @equalityftw go and search youtube for "idiots guide to public sector that produces no wealth", there's a good video for you to learn the truth.

  • @express375 Haha it was massively more socialist in the 60's mate

  • oooooooo the queen i would so do that

  • I wish I was born back then or in the 50's, and not in 1992 :(

  • WOW amazing :)

  • It's not small, but everything else is right :P

  • when england was england

  • @imooreory This comment perfectly highlights one of the fundamental misconceptions underlying the majority of conservative, nationalist and xenophobic ideology in Britain today.

I don't care to explain why, trolling complete. Good day.

  • *slight error in this broadcast, the first public railway was actually the crab and winkle line which ran between Whitstable and Canterbury

  • @cricketbat08 Post War immigration has improved Britain ten fold. its the White British people who sit around doing nothing and living off benefits that are destroying Britain, people Immigrate here to work and to grow the economy and live a free life. think before you say next time you make comments with no real knowledge.

  • .... what a pointless video :S

  • Britain is the most beautiful place in the world.

  • Paddy07brentford

READ one book-it's called "War is a racket" by Brigadier Smedley D Butler.

    Please.

  • @paddy07brentford Don't be fooled - nostalgia is the new black. This wasn't how it was.

  • an excellent advertisement to remind today's goverment of the continuing importance of scientific funding.

  • Britain, home to all race and creed. A leader in the Worlds Economy, Strong and proud.

This is why we are great.

  • @Joecre01

    Hmmm ok. Bye!

  • @tichie33 Yes, rediculous...

  • the queen was never hot!

  • "In fair weather and.. well the usual kind" ROFL.

This is a bit a propaganda POS though, they really glossed over the problems of this country.

  • I love propaganda; Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb, the Wright Brothers invented the airplane (oh joy, Britain put extra seating in theirs), and Alexander Bell invented the telephone. how you guys completely ignored this and jumped to religion I have no idea. Yeah, you've got immigration problems, America's got immigration problems, we all have immigration problems. Suppose our governments wised up and had a certain tax they couldn't evade (sales tax alone)

  • @speachguru

No immigration problems on the whole of continental Africa or Asia mate.

  • @Fizzypop1211 Well sure no one's going there, but leaving is somewhat of an issue...you know, if their gov't will allow them to and if their ships are sturdy enough. rowboats to me would have a slight problem crossing the Atlantic to make it to Florida ; )

  • @speachguru

"Well sure no one's going there"

yea - that was the point. You said we all have immigration problems - and now we agree, they don't.

And I dont know about row boats but we have plane loads - yep, count em - plane loads of Afghans landing at airports. How do they get tickets? get on a plane? Not bad for a bunch of mud hut dwellers eh?

You want to see Heathrow immigration. You want to see under the trains and trucks by the Channel Tunnel.

The UK is a CHOICE destination.

  • @Fizzypop1211

its understandable, seeing as to how much closer the UK is to these technologically challenged countries than the US. really i'm just tired of the US and UK being so friendly and open to the swelling number of immigrants.

It's our country and if our people don't want you here, they have every right to make you leave. *you=immigrants; our=UK/US lemur hunting parties could work out as well

  • @speachguru

    ho ho ho

    technologically challenged??!!

I could waste you on so many levels with that side swipe. Perhaps we'll leave it that they prefer to come to a country where riding a bus was never an issue.

My issue is that the buses are full.

  • @Fizzypop1211 wait, so your argument is that immigration problems could be solved if we simply got rid of the transit system that is drawing all the foreigners?

and yes, i would consider countries where getting clean water is an issue as a country that is technologically challenged. I mean, you can't possibly be saying that a major reason behind immigration isn't to get to a country that has a higher standard of living

  • @speachguru

Para1 - Well No. I never said anything like that. I was marvelling at the ingenuity of people bypassing other nearer (technologically able) countries to take refuge by exercising their right to choose to come here.

The other part I misunderstood (2 nations separated by a common language!) I thought you were saying we were closer as in more like the techno challenged countries than we were to US. my bad. sorry mate.

Yea, I get your point. My point is we are full!

  • @Fizzypop1211 No worries. England is definitely full up and near if not already overflowing. For the life of me I can't think of why they would bypass Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, etc. just to come to your country. I call shenanigans

  • @speachguru

Its cos we are too soft apologising for empire and imperial past.

(rubbish, we have nothing to apologise for compared to previous and following regimes)

Dont get too smug though - your turn next when China takes centre stage.

  • @speachguru

Btw - props on knowing some European countries.

  • @speachguru Invention of the light bulb is disputed between Swan and Edison. I think you'll find he said the first PASSENGER airliner and Alexander Bell was Scottish therefore a Brit.

  • @MANFROMMARS46 Of course it's disputed, otherwise you and I would both be agreeing. I think you'll find that I said rather sarcastically in parenthesis that yes, Brits were the first to put extra seating in their planes, and if that's going to be your argument for Bell then no American inventor should be given credit for their work in the States since our country is a melting pot of all sorts of cultures and races. (except for Native Americans of course)

  • @speachguruWasn't Thomas Edison born in the States?

  • @speachguru

Jet passanger airliner, and the first one was British although the jet aeroplane was first pioneered by the Germans during the war, Edison discovered a light bulb that worked in a race with Swan and Tesla, but he couldn't have made it work without Tesla who was the real genius.

Without Tesla we would have none of the modern conveniences we have today.

  • @Iain1962 agreed, Tesla is a bad ass =)

  • @speachguru hold on alex bell was brittish

  • This is awesome! Proud to be British. Even if it is going down the pan a little!

  • @James0507 It's spelt 'pessimism', and it shouldn't have a capital letter you twerp.

  • @Imoverallbetterthanu Resorting to grammar are we? The ultimate sign of desperation. Nothing better to say? No?

  • @James0507 No it's spelling, you bloody idiot. Although your grammar is also bad but that doesn't surprise me.

You are typical of the type of brainless moron only too commonly found today in Britain. If you don't understand something you just pretend you do, right? If you can't spell it, even when there's a spell checker, never mind huh? Yeah, just slap everything together and that'll make do right? No, it won't do. You're a petulant fool and Britain as a whole should shun all your opinions.

  • @Imoverallbetterthanu Haha wow. I know your type- someone puts you down so you find the smallest, most irrelevant thing to pick at them for and try to paint them as below your intelligence because of it.

Seriously though, you consider most of your fellow Brits "brainless morons"? i think you have serious self esteem issues. Wether your insecure or you actually think that highly of yourself I couldn't say.

I made a spelling mistake. I'm sure Einstein did occasionally, too. Proves nothing.

  • @James0507 Whatever, leave me alone.

  • the year I was born!

  • I'm gonna buy this dvd right now!

  • The age of innocence.

  • so does the queen rule the governments or the governments rule her?

or does a higher body rule both of them?

i are confused at the constant conveyor belt of bullshit we are being told about the history of so called great brittain

  • Somebody needs to reshoot this as it is today, but keep the original narration (the first half anyway)
