  • @camundongo99

    YES!!!!You`re right!

  • looks like a hell of a good time

  • As often as I hear Mike Shrieve's singular solo, my hair stands on end. Pure genius.

  • I will also ask , what what is the name, whom are the afro american musicians?

  • @Mesalonika Mike Carabello played congas and Dave Brown bass. Brown passed away a few years ago. I've read that Santana was not an easy guy to get along with as a band mate which may have something to do with why the members of his band changed so often.

  • @jab3785 Thank you for the information, they were great!! a good band is all the individuals.

  • or rather I should say, were they high? or were they high!!!

  • soul sacrifice

  • This video is flagged... that sucks.

  • this performance is bliss.......

why was i born in '79?

  • @camundongo99 nah, justin bieber just clicked it 13 times or he cloned himself 12 times and himself and his clones all hit the button simetaniously.

  • Michael Shrieve's solo is fantastic.

  • michael is a legend, and there will never be another one like him.

  • never EVER get tired of this video

  • MICHAEL SHRIEVE ROCKS.

  • the drummer is a teenager... fuck

  • I have to be 18+ to watch this??? OMG...

  • Wht's amazing is how they can keep it together even though they all look wrecked....but hey it's the 60s........MAN!

  • I can't stop watching this.

  • IS MICHAEL STILL ALIVE?

  • @ALAB69ERS Why not?

  • @ALAB69ERS Mr. Shrieve is still alive and kicking at 61. Check for him on Wikipedia. I've been listening to his work with Hagar, Schon, Aaronsen and Schrieve this week. :)

    Peace out...

  • Real music !! !!!

  • To tell you the truth all performances were awesome, Woodstock was the greatest gathering of talent that will never be duplicated and Woodstock was a concert with minimal problems, like fights, etc.. Michael Schrieve a 19 year old, last minute drummer for Santana was awesome.

  • I was too young to go to Woodstock, my parents wouldn't let me go, but I remember seeing this replayed on the news, next to Hendrix this was the greatest performance

  • @NReds FUCK PARENTS

  • this is what you call putting your heart and soul into your music boys n girls

  • me also..

  • love 3:07

  • I remember Carlos playing a little club in Dallas in 69. Small club and packed and wonderful times, on the dance floor and the groove sound. Just an old fart who can still groove.

  • raddd

  • when i watched the woodstock movie they said the guitarst was on acid an he thought his guitar was turning into a snake

  • @aPeaceofPeace The guitarist - Carlos Santana :)

  • Probably a stupid point really BUT why is it common knowledge that Shrieve was 19 when he did the Woodstock gig when he was born in July '49 and Woodstock Aug '69 which actually makes him 20 not 19.

  • i love the live version of this song, especially michael's drums.other than that all of its great.

    wbrianj1

  • i chould sell 70 years of slavery if i only chould be there.

  • julia stiles 7:20 !!

    great perfomance,, peace

  • One of the greatest drum solos

  • this has to be the greatest piece of music i have ever seen.and heard.....michael shrieve is unstoppable at those drums..and Carlos....DIOS MIO...CAAARLOOOOS !!!!!!!....i think if there wasn't so much acid and mescal...they wouldn't have been so freakin legendary...

  • I wanna know what kind of drum set this was?

  • they were all trippin' out on acid when they did Woodstock....and yet...they were AWESOME!! Love it, man!!

  • @cadebra1961 it wasn't acid it was mescaline

  • I was born in the wrong decade.....

  • @banhaz me too =(

  • @banhaz me too bro

  • @banhaz Me too brother.

  • @banhaz No you weren't. This was the age that gave you major deficits, progressive philosophy, womens' lib and raising children with a voice in the household.....THIS WAS GARBAGE AND HOPE MY CHILDREN UNDERSTAND OUR MIISFORTUNE.

  • @banhaz If you're sick of passwords and logons- that anyone my age forgets-, you were born in the wrong decade .What has this world come to? It blows my mind, what are we doing? Simple and free?? Take me back to the 60's & early 70's please.

  • man this is how a drummer need to be

free mind no scores free bit

my drum teacher is so fucked up everytime im doin' wrong shot he got a stupid comment

    strict like a dam sergent

  • Drummer very hot and very talented

  • i'm in love with the girl at 5.43 and forward, she is the happiest person in the world at that show

  • this really embodies what woodstock was all about, madness, music, happiness, and yes, drugs en masse. the greatest live performance EVER!

  • Find Michael Schrieve in the mid 70's with Klaus Schulz of Tangerine Dream doing "Transfer Station Blue", then in 2009 with his own band, Spellbinder. The dude still rocks!!

  • mondofzz, Carlos Santana admitted that they were under the influence of LSD. He said that they were not expecting to play 2 or 3 hours later but plans changed and they were called to play. The guy , CS, said that the ugly faces are because he was having difficulties to get the notes, he said that he was floating on the stage, that the music was coming from everywhere. I think that the interview is posted in youtube.

  • I LOVE this freakin video!! Thank you for posting it.

  • yeah, Santana!!! The man who plays the bass is a monkey?? xD

  • I love the guy in the crowd whos playing the triangle along with the band.

  • It breaks my heart that the great Santana bass player David Brown died penniless, on the street, with a dirty spike in his arm. Take care, folks.

  • @beowulven Thanks for your post I did not know the he died it is so sad to see some of our great rockers die because of drugs

  • carlos santana orgullosamente latino ahuevooooooo

  • The best band that did'nt stay away from the brown acid.

  • Hey, you're a good jakeenan ~ Santana was HUGELY popular even before Woodstock, as was the Jimmi Hendrix Experience...still, this was just an awesome performance with the band really in sinc - did you know the drummer (name escapes me right now) was only about 16 years old? Peace, guys! ;-)

  • and as for the drummer he gave mother earth a back rub

  • nobody makes music like this any more

  • Are you experienced? LSD : the only way to fly. Pass the Acid Test!

  • Sick ass drummer!

  • he KILLED the STRINGS outta that guitar! this song shall pass

  • its amazing that michael shrieve wasn't as big as santana.. i love santana but shrieve is as far as im concerned the best drummer of all time! this video proves it, has to be the best drum solo i have ever heard! Legends! All of them!

  • shame about the bad audio quality... the original woodstock vid sounds amazing! highly recommended to anyone!!!

  • @gobacktorussia This was the 70s, quality chouldent get any more better than this.

BTW, most youtube vids has lower quality than this.

  • Yeah, that girl seemed to climax :D It's awesome to see a REAL group and know that a guitar isn't the only intrument that can melt your face off. Still, Santana is awesome. Que sigues vivo y saludable por mucho tiempo Carlos. LSD is one hell of a drug :3

  • du kraaaaaleeeeeo \o/

  • That was their moment; their ultimate crowd. They almost sneaked onto the gig listing too There and then their lives changed forever. It was the start and they were already seasoned. Man, what energy they bounced off each other. That version of the band did produce the best alchemy, sadly for only about five years.

  • The best live performance, ever....

  • PEACEANDLOVE

  • awsome

  • Way prefer the SG sound to the PRS sound......yup

  • Incredible perfomance, this band has an amazing sound, but much more incredible is the naked man who at min. 7.46 keep a sheep on is arms

  • michael shrieve is cool... hahaha

  • was that guy fucking that sheep at 7:45 ?

    wow

  • sickest drummer in the fucking whole world, I wish I stood there closing my eyes and enjoying the best music in the world!

  • indimenticabile.Quel pazzo di mio fratello, grande, mi portò a vedere questo film, avevo solo 11 anni.Da allora mi e sempre rimasta impressa questa musica ed è da allora che mi accompagna.

  • C arlos had just dropped Acid and dint know they had moved him up. He was seeeing things as he was playing the jam

  • did not miss a beat. great

  • Thank you for posting this as "Michael Shrieve"/Santana....as on this date in Woodstock history, Mike was the star!!! While Carlos is a fair guitar player, his style/tone has not changed one iota over 45 years. You could plug his guitar work into one of his newer albums, and it would sound exactly the same! Carlos owes Rob Thomas 10 million dollars for re-resurrecting his career! Oh yea...Ps...Thank you Carlos for at least NOW choosing the finest guitar in the world to play...Paul Reed Smith!!

  • Brother is actually 'sister'....but bloody fantastic all the same x

  • Just the best era ever.... goosebumps or WHAT!!.... Feelgood at its best! x

  • Carlos gettin it!

  • Happy 420!!!!!!

  • Incredible song xD

    toda para ti esther jaja

  • you can just see the love and passion as santana plays. a true legend

  • @srosa21 you can also see the fear in his eyes because the entire time he thought the neck of his guitar was a snake

  • NO EXAGERATION! I think this is the 100th time I have seen this, and I am STILL loving every minute.

  • everyones all loaded on acid, lol

  • You know why this music has so much soul?

    LSFUCKINGDEEBAYBEE

Try some and see a whole new world open to you and what you love.

  • 3:07

  • Drum solo=fucking amazingggg!!!!

  • Wow, even an old one - me- loves this video. Michael is fantastic and at such a young age. He deserves to be up there with Buddy and Gene.

  • alguien sabe el nombre del baterista? es un maestro

  • @DONvampyxxx

    Michael Shrieve

  • I was 2 years old in the Woodstock era......too bad I didn't experience this...I bet this was awesome and unforgettable :)

  • left eye...sorry

  • Michael Shrieve grew up right down the road from me in Redwood City, CA. I can tell you for a fact that he always claimed to be completely sober during the concert. He did get into a bar fight the night before though. Check out his right eye in the video. The remastered 6 min. video gives better visuals but the song is all chopped up and his EPIC drum solo is almost completely cut. Interesting look though.

  • Everything about this is good. I especially like the blonde hippie chick freaking out because she can't believe how good this is. Even the guys playing it seem like they can't believe how good this is.

  • @mondofzz Yeah, you're right, dude. That blonde chick's reactions are cool. Does she know she's being papped? The big Q.

The only downside is that big dark haired chick in the strippy top dancing. Ergh. Hahaha And also, how many there would never have heard latin-rock groove music before? Very, very few. It must've felt like an alien ship had landed and dropped these cats off for an hour. Great tune. Hasn't dated a jot.

  • @jakeenan everyone was into Santana then

  • @mondofzz Well I saw an interview with Carlos and he said he was still high on LSD when they got called out. This seems like the last song they played? so they could still be on LSD

  • Everyday I wish that i kould've been around when Woodstock was! To experience REAL great music not like nowadays..

  • The story goes is that the whole band was on LSD (as were many of the bands at this concert).

  • @soltisimba doing a project on it right now there amazing for being able to do that while trippin balls

  • @soltisimba yea and also that Santana was trippin on mescalin... they were saying that he felt the guitar was moving like a snakes body..

  • Loved this video, HUGE Santana and Michael Shrieve fan, I've been trying to mimic this drum solo for almost a year and it makes me more amazed at Michael's ability!

  • Hero, in every meaning of the word. Period.

  • I loved this then and still love it. Wooo shake them baby !!!

  • Santana's first album came out the same month as the festival. Compared to most of the other bands that played, they were relatively unknown. Until this performance (this song is on the first album), which put them on the map. Probably the best single performance of Woodstock.

  • @roadrunner3100 you should check out Ten Years After they rocked out at the concert too. Alvin Lee on I'm Going Home, plays a mean guitar as well.

  • Daaaaaaaaaaaaaayum

  • que dureza! jajajaja

  • grande santana!!

  • Saw Michael Shrieve on 4/5/10 at Tost in Seattle....he plays there most Monday nights with his band Spellbinder. It was phenomenal. He is STILL one of the greatest drummers on the planet.

  • I just discovered Michael Shrieve on VH1 classic Woodstock. Much like watching Angus Young...couldn't take my eyes off of him.

  • Carlos has said he was tripping his balls off on mescaline during this song which makes it even more amazing. Incredible performance.

  • @XOkie LSD I think..

  • Carlos has said he was tripping his balls off on mescaline during this song which makes it even more amazing. Incredible performance.
