Lets do the math travel time using a ballistics calculater comes up to just under two seconds of travel time. 1.85 fire the bullet to track to the target. Take the amount of time for sound to travel back 1000 yards which is just under 3 seconds roughly 2.8 seconds total time is roughly 4.6 seconds also take into account what the recording frame rate per second of the camera and its pretty damn close to 5 seconds...i don't know this guy but that is the math...btw nice shooting
5-6 seconds to hit target at 1000 yards interesting. I heard that russian sniping ammo for swd or dragunov takes around 2.5 seconds I think at 5 seconds you can't hit anything that is moving.
Not sure how accurate the 5-6s is, considering thats when the sound comes BACK to the camera at about 6 seconds. So impact has to be before that. 7.62x54R does probably run a bit faster though.
@smoku46 Um.. you're retarded. The 5-6 seconds is for the SOUND of the bullet hitting the target. The bullet is traveling more than double the speed of sound. The impact is around 1.5 seconds.
My 2 cents. About the snow comment, understandable, white on white. However the sun is above and behind the target shading it against bright snow. Count off about 4.5 seconds from bang to plink. Snow covered mountains, Nov, 25th probably between 25-65 degrees F. Air estimated to be ideal so speed of sound 1079.2-1122.8 ft/s, in yards 359.7-374.2. A 1000 yd target, avg. 6.5 round under same conds. gives about 1.6-1.5 sec. TOF. That + 2.78-2.47 sec. for sound gives 4.4 - 4.24 sec. Solid.
you are poorly educated on long range shooting. Bullet flight time on a 1000 yard shots is a second or two. He is shooting pretty quickly for a LR shooter. Longest sniper kill to date is 2707 yards with a 338LM off a bipod. This shot was reproduced with same cartridge and the scope on 8x power. There is snow on the ground.... that doesn't have shit to do with anything.
@lowdose338 you gotta show me proof of that 2707 yard shot with a 338LM. That almost beyond the range of the .408 CT. Also the shot was reproduced with and 8X optic? Its hard enough to shoot 1k with 10X. I have to call BS on 2707yrds, w/8X optic.
@thumper49802 However it is possible, but luck had got to be on your side. Also if i remember they were using the L115A3, topped with a S&B 5-25? So the magnification would be sufficient.
I left you a message with links on your page. As you can clearly see, it is very possible and was done by 3 established shooter over a 2 day shooting period in very hazardous conditions. So, you are proven wrong, its been done. A simply search of DTA rifles and media would yielded you the results you called BS on.
@lowdose338 ok, i can admit when im wrong, watched it, and i am impressed. However, they werent using 8X optics. But still, impressive. As for you insulting me in your message by saying i dont know what im talking about. That is incorrect.
Its correct by what you have or havent displayed here...... They used 8x because of the holdover on the target. Since I know them I have that insider information. its common knowledge on SH.
Again you are not correct. LR shooting is all about instinct, skill, and knowledge of your firearm and the cartridge you are firing. If you can combine all of those, you should not need luck. Please stop talking like you know what your talking about! Its getting sad.
I know I saw the answer to this question in the Grendel forum but couldn't find it again. What kind of steel did you use for your targets? I'm guessing armor grade of some kind judging from the sound and the marks.
@kansastwista the short answer: NO. You'd probably want to step up to 6.5x47 Lapua or .260 Rem at least for shots on deer at that range. Grendel is probably good to 500-600 yards at the absolute most. IMO
1000 yards would be a stretch to use on game even with the .260 Rem or 6.5x47 Lapua. At minimum I would think you would want to look at the 6.5-284 Norma.

question, does the 6.5 grendel retain enough energy at 1000 yards, out of an ar type rifle, to ethically hunt deer size game?
Excellent video, thanks for posting it.
