  • Florence Foster Jenkins lives!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha it is absolutely.....horrible ^^

  • Que mal rollo...

  • この画像がまた何とも。

    たしかにすごいけど首絞められた鶏みっでたのう

  • Do not play this to a 5-year-old you'll scar them for life.

  • I think this is beautiful.

  • this will haunt me in my sleep

  • for some reason i am drawn to his voice i dunno i love it

  • EXPECTACULAR VOZ TENGO 16 AÑOS ME GUSTARIA TENER ESA VOZ!

  • Their sexual life wasn't always (all even in most cases) so carefree like TheXLTE is asserting. Actually with castration in most cases they lost hormonical sexual appetence. And in most cases their gonad were undeveloped. Sometimes some castrates had psychical sexual appetence and in this case it was plausible that they had affairs with ladyies and with men. But otherwise their furiousness can't be universalize to all castrated individuals.

  • this shit is just sick in the head the give up ur dick to sing what the fuck hell a real man if he wanted to be a singer whould not get his dick chopped off or nuts chopped off fuck that !

  • @TheXLTE they didnt give up there dicks, they had a sergery that enabled them to have kids, but they had normal sexuall function, and they were very populer with the ladies, because there wernt any condomes back then to prevent pregnancy. The castraty alsow grew bigger and taller then the averige man.

  • @tissetatten Not true. They took the testicles which meant no sperm so no kids. They did it before puberty so smaller voicebox, hence the voice. There are some reports that they had some sexual function, but probably not normal. Then as now a man with skilled hands can still satisfy a woman.

  • @tissetatten removal of the testicles would have resulted in sterility - same as when it's performed on any other male animal. Once your testicles have been removed, there is no surgery that can enable you to have a child, you no longer have any sex cells that could combine with an egg.

  • hes mourning the loss of his testicles

  • Was it worth....not

  • @piraan2 not how u go do it and find out

  • His voice isn't the most pleasant, however he seems to be able to sing with real empathy. Singing about suffering, I definitely hear it in his voice, whether it's an artistic choice or not.

  • @Puppyizzy Bear in mind this was towards the end of his singing life; i.e. he was old.

  • esse carra he meu parente axo qe he meu tatatatatatatatara vo

  • yeah this sucks, DEFINITELY not worth having your balls cut off

  • To the listeners to and critics of this video, before you go bashing this mans voice take this into consideration. This recording was not recorded on high tech digital technology in a fancy studio to be released on I Tunes, this was most likely recorded in a small room like a study with a piano and a phonograph and that's it and alot of the sound quality is lost from the old recording methods. Listen to the piano for example it sounds pinngey and weak nothing like we know a piano sounds like.

  • Castrating a child at an early age to make him become a castrato was risky. If someone castrated you in hopes of making you a singer didn't work out, how would you feel. Not worth trading, if you know what I mean.

  • He makes Justin Bieber look good....

  • @ShortStuff2187 Nah.

  • Moreschi did actually sing a few private concerts. It would be unfair to put this down to a lack of talent in any case. The church was very wary of allowing it's singers to sing secular concerts and indeed it was a mark of Moreschi's popularity that he was allowed to record these records at all. I accept that Moreschi isn't in his prime in these recordings but the inescapable fact is that he was hugely admired in his day.

  • @MetallicAwwf316 No, but nature worship, and no bloody vision to convert other people, or to enslave them in the name of religion.

  • By the 19th century both Italy and the Vatican (see Pope Leo XIII) had banned this practice, but it was the families of some of the young boys who got their children castrated so that they could become famous singers. I know it's always easier to spread ignorance than either knowledge or critical thinking.

  • @MetallicAwwf316 Burning down a church and listening to black metal sounds like a good night out

  • @87anAxelsson The tradition of castration was a part of italian national musical culture. It has been criticized by society in other european countries, though they were christian as well. Your attack is no more then stupid attempt to claim large and complex organisation (and a whole religion), because of things, that happened for centuries ago. No way...

  • @87anAxelsson thats just stupid! u cant say fuck religion and then be religius, thats just as bad no matter what the religion

  • @87anAxelsson Well, in this case it wasn't for churchs or even music's sake he was castrated. read wikipedia before being stupid, man.

  • @BlackCarc

Great! It's good to find people like you on youtube who have done some research and put in place people who don't know what they are talking about!

  • @87anAxelsson You reckon they're any better?

  • @87anAxelsson

By the 19th century both Italy and the Vatican (see Pope Leo XIII) had banned this practice, but it was the families of some of the young boys who got their children castrated so that they could become famous singers.

BTW, Norse Mythology was HIGHLY admired by the Nazis. So, I could say that they ( who actually did awful things to people who followed Abrahamic religions) would have liked your opinion, they wanted to rediscover the Aryan ancestral gods!

  • Guys just so you know, he was castrated. and that is for real.

  • tendré pesadillas con los castrati

  • yo tambien jejej

  • Imagine this voice without the 1902 shitty recording devices and the time that rot the clip.. He's voice had to be purely inconceivable!

  • @SkateNater Noo....actually i'm more baffled by the ppl who thought this is piece was beautiful =.=...........if the word "castrato" was scratched in the video title, would you still think this is beautiful?! cmon, give your ears justice!

  • @aiayumi he wasn´t in his best time when he recorded these arias, plus he wasn´t near the best castrattos singers. But it is listened cause it gives an idea of how those great voices would be. And different from you I think that his voice is unbeliaveble, his voice color is inimaginable, I cant imagine how Farinelli would sing, definitely that would be like an angel crying

  • @aiayumi - LOL, I agree completely. His voice isn't all that great and people would be saying "what in the world is this?!" if they didn't know he was a castrato.

  • @SkateNater i wish technology could revive Farinelli...but to say this horrible singing is representative of the legendary, unearthly castrati (church, opera ones alike) is such a shame....

  • GOTTA LOVE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH!

  • I dislike it!!!!! that's not a singer, that's like a howl, terrible....! I'm countertenor, this is an offense to the opera, I curse that horrible voice!!!!

  • this is actually a quite horrid piece......sounds quite bad....definitely not worth castrating for....

  • Comment removed

  • It's an amazing voice... But makes me sad to know he was one of castrati guys...

  • some ppl forget that the recording is of the worst quality..note the date..and note...also how any recording of that era ppl sounded like compare to today. So really this is like listening someone on an old mobile phone... imagine how he would had sounded in real life

  • OMG!!!!! THIS SINGER SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME

  • I just thought people might like to know that the reason this recording may not sound quite as "pleasing" to them, knowing that castrato voices were known to be very beautiful in their time, is because Moreschi was about 44 or 46 when these recordings were made and not in his prime. He was probably beginning to lose some of his abilities at this point in his life.

  • This sounds horrible. Not worth cutting a poor baby's balls off so that you can have someone sing like this thier whole life... It is painful to my ears.

  • 20 people are eunuchs.

  • @victorbrunswick I have to argue with this comment. The twenty people who clicked dislike are people who have a difficulty getting out of the raspiness of Moreschi at this age, and how his voice sounds much more forced than many other singers.

If you disagree with what I just said, you and the twenty so-called eunuchs are all entitled to your own opinions.

  • sounds like my dad singing

  • Oddly I sound a lot like him and I'm grown!

  • I think they must have castrated him AFTER listening to this!

  • I guess most of you like this singing but I would choose a good sopran to sing for me this sound a bit like a chicken ^^

  • I always feel sick after listening to him. How the hell could you let a person chop your bollocks off

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy they would have done it when he was baby, so he did nthave the option. if you are circumsized, you probaly did not consciously make the decision either.

  • I'd rather keep my jewels thank you very much!

  • Open your ears... Moreschi sucked. Everyone can hear it. Being last castrato didn't make him a good singer. He was castrated before his first bd, so nobody could hear if he was talented or not. He was the last "working" castrato. That's why his voice was used in Capella Sistina, even if he sounded awfully.

  • Castration WAS condemned under Canon Law. A person who perform such a prosedure was excomunicated exo facto. Whether certain persons in the Church decided to turn a blind eye to the highering of these Castrati, is definitely arguable. Condemned or not this did not stop secular society from performing these practices on sly...and surgons from offering services for a price. Families would have their sons castrated in hopes of him becoming a great singer and the financial support of his family.

  • @isabellemarie89

Great to find people on youtube who know what they are talking about!

  • @SEMPRELISZT Thank you! Can ya believe these nuts who goin' on and on about a subject without researching it. In anycase, for those of you reading this post and are condemning castration as a " Church practice" Alessandro Moreschi could very well have been castrated for health reasons. As for rare forms of hernia, castration wasn't an uncommon " cure"

  • impressionante!

  • people on here are unbearably ignorant. i don't think he could care any less about his "lost" manhood. shut up, fools!

  • it's sound like Foster Jenkins !

  • @gilloots1 lol Ok now, come on, that is a bit of an exaggeration. His voice is 20 times more powerful than Jenkins. Plus, he's doing the warbles on purpose. It was a stylistic thing back in those days. Florence Foster Jenkins... well, she just couldn't hit the notes! XD

  • The most beautiful singer I have ever heard.

  • We humans are a crazy bunch, it would cool in a sick and twisted way if they did just one more to end the conjecture, im horrible i know!!! his voice is haunting, especially if you think what this bloke went through as a kid........

  • amazing

  • for anyone interested the book "cry to heaven" by anne rice is a great fiction about castrati.

  • i Don´t like his voice..

  • YOU CAN TAKE MY BALLS BUT YOU CANT TAKE MY VOICE!

  • Что-то мне стало не по себе.

  • The times are very different now. Castrati usually came from poor families, and rather than possibly not surviving to adulthood because their parents could not feed all their children, some boys were castrated in hopes of a better life within the church. The few that maintained a singing talent could dream of becoming the "popstars" of their day in the opera. Those who didn't at least had a secure life in the church, as opposed to starving in poverty. Tough times, tough choices.

  • Makes my blood run cold - it's like something you would expect Hitler to do to the Jews, for entertainment and a bit of a laugh.

  • Creepy...

  • That horrid voice sounds freakish. It actually disturbs me that a man could sing like that. It sounds very unnatural. Typical of the Catholics to come up with a barbaric idea such as cutting a males testes of on the off chance they will sing like a mutated choir boy. Totally crap singing.

  • @dromong LOL.

I'm not a Catholic, but you should get more information on this topic ^^ Well, at least they had their penises, in China (Imperial Palace) and even in the India of today(Hijras) they usually lost/loose EVERYTHING. And you wouldn't accept their reasons either.

Of course, castrating a man is not acceptable, but ... well, it wasn't only the church's fault. Especially rich people liked and payed for those singers in the past.

Hope, you could understand me, my English got worse

  • @IIiRosiII I actually did look into this. I had first heard about this on BBC radio 4 in the early hours of the morning a few weeks ago and although it disturbed me I found it fascinating. The Castratos were offered by their parents to escape poverty but many were not good enough, however by the time they realised this, too late, obviously they were not whole men.

There will always be a story of something worse.

Your English is very good. What nationality?

  • Comment removed

  • @dromong Thank you, I didn't speak English for one and a half year actively so it's not as easy as before. I'm from Germany.

But I'm relieved you actually know something about this topic. And I agree with you: It IS fascinating. (As long as it's part of the history...)

  • @dromong It does sound freakish yes. Apparently even more so "in the flesh" as opposed to a very early recording (I presume this was pre dolby lol). The vocal tones of a young boy belted out by the fully developed lungs of a man. However, their testes were not actually cut off. They were made to sit in a very hot bath and their testes were "manipulated" and then when they were soft the tube supplying the male hormones to the body was crushed by means of a special tool.

  • @dromong i agree - it is a very disturbing voice. the first time that i heard, i felt his suffering, excrutiating agony, before i knew he was a castrato. many of those young men had no knowlegde of what had been done to them. if you read the book called "the last castrato" (i think that's the name - but i read it a long time ago) the saddness and overall emotional pain is overwhelming. i disagree the singing is crap - just a different style, a different way. good wishes, robbie

  • @dromong actually the church never specifically approved the practice, they just closed a blind eye. One of the reasons the singing sounds so strange to our ears is that at the time vocal technique was very different - they added a lot of slides and grace notes rather than singing the music "clean". Have you ever listened to a really good countertenor singing Contralto? And I don't mean choirboys, but grown men. They have a richness of tone that very few women are able to produce :)

  • He had a nice voice, but i can feel my balls heart when i listen to him... Im sorry, but every time he get his voice louder my balls got hit by an agonishing strange feeling...

  • all i hear is a little man who seems to be sobbing in regret of his poor hairy testicles

  • BALLZ!

  • Desentonaba como la mierda! le cortaron los huevitos al pedo pobre hombre, le podrían haber enseñado a cantar.

Una verdadera hijoputez, castrar a alguien para que cante...

  • @VonGamben jajajajajajajaja

  • If I viciously grabed my husbands balls-- he would sound like that too. Have Mercy!!!! lol Maybe he'll be famous too. lol

  • @tysa888

It's not "very good"--Moreschi was past his prime when he made his recordings--nevertheless, his skill and lifelong dedication to his craft is still apparent.

  • My God!This singer is a pure genious!

  • @Juliet0307 He's no genius, he just got no balls...

  • Comment removed

  • I found this quite scary.

  • I feel bad for the guy.

And for myself. Why did I put myself through listening this? The horror, oh the horror!

  • The recordings of Moreschi are highly debated. While it's true that the voice of a castrato would deteriorate over time (as it surely would have by his 50's, when this recording was created), it is also worth noting changing musical tastes (many grace notes that were more popular in this era sound a but funky now) and poor sound quality as factors in the oddness of this performance.

But then again, maybe he just sucked...

  • @LucklessGun Yes, part of it is the primitive recording. This was 1902, after all. Furthermore, he was older at the time of the recordings. He was past his prime, vocally. His voice was unstable, if you really listen. He also seems to lack the flexibility that was associated with the castrati; they were famous for long cadenzas and breath capacity. Interesting to hear this sound, that was so prized at one point in history that they mutilated many young boys to achieve it.

  • we must realize that his best voice was years before the phonograph was invented! this is stuff from he was in his 50's i think. but its still good.

  • he sound creepy as fuck. not worth the trade off. i rather have balls

  • @alucardgrindcore boys were not given a choice. They were castrated against their will.

  • @RavenSiren it was a choice..some of them made the decision in doing so cause they would be provided with wealth through out there career

  • I can feel his sadness and pain , please dont do that to your children

  • MR NO BALLS HAS A FUNNY VOICE

  • Weird!

  • Oh hot damn this is my jam

  • A esta cancion le faltan huevos! / This song need more balls!

  • The effectiveness of castrating a child for the sake of his voice really diminishes as the person gets older. The circumference of the the neck and other adjacent structures don't lend itself to the unchanged vocal cavity that the male hormone helps to develope. Thus, the voice ends up sounding really shrilly and squiky--almost alien like. It's really sad.

  • na boa, não achei bonito não, vai ver esses castrati nem eram tão bons como reza a lenda. Hoje em dia temos recursos que nos permitem realizar as musicas com muito mais precisão. mas isso não importa

  • I plan on having my son castrated so he can sing like this.

  • wtf please tell me ur kidding cause if u do imagine what he would do all his life he would be ridiculed im only listening to this because it is very very ver y funny

  • I was DEAD SERIOUS MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

  • ur telling me to mind my own buisness yet YOU rite this comment for eveyone to read

    DUMB ASS!!!!

  • @BonerPirate Lmao....that's cold.

  • Comment removed

  • @BonerPirate that's illegal!!! and cruel!!

  • @BonerPirate and when he is older, he will no doubt say thank you daddy, offering you the same quality of love and respect that you showed him.

good wishes to you.... and yr son

  • @robbiew8n MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU AS WELL.

  • @BonerPirate

    dude...

  • @BonerPirate loooooooooooooool

  • @BonerPirate Please you must be kidding, dont joke with that

  • @BonerPirate wahahaha

  • @BonerPirate honestly i think the same way wahahahahah XD

  • @BonerPirate

    You're an animal.

  • @BonerPirate

My veterinary would be happy to service you, for a fair price. So you could sing like Moreschi.

  • @nikoparanza Thank YOU FOR THE OFFER. Unfortunately I have already gone through puberty. My son will sound like an ANGEL THOUGH JUST WAITING FOR THE DOCTOR TO SAY OK AND SEE HOW MUCH IT COSTS. I BOUGHT A MEDICAL BOOK AND I MAY TRY TO DO THIS PROCEDURE MYSELF IF ITS TOO EXPENSIVE

  • @BonerPirate Uh, I don't really think that's a good idea! Honestly, don't do this procedure yourself!

  • @BonerPirate

I'm pretty sure its illegal to do this now

  • @BonerPirate man i hope ur joking, aswell as the 53 people who liked this.

  • @BonerPirate your username and the comment doesn't make sense

  • a voz dele é assim porque ele foi castrado na infância.

  • I think that, all being told, Moreschi had a pretty good voice. Considering that he was getting older when this record was made, and considering the quality of recording equipment in his day, I don't think the recording does him justice. Also, he's using 19th cent. Bel Canto technique; I think he could have benefited from using EITHER head voice, save for very low notes, or chest voice and singing lower range music. Basically, he's singing like most of his contemporaries in the Opera House.

  • Sur une voix plus belle, le résultat aurait été encore meilleur, mais bon, honneur à lui d'avoir sacrifié sa descendance au Dieu Chant.

  • Gran voz, pero pobre amigo, castrado para el canto.

  • That song needs more balls / A esa canción le faltan huevos

  • @BOHEMIANMEX jajjaajjajajajja!! asi es.

  • man....the guy sung really badly...

wonder if it always had been the case, or it's just the age..?

  • well he was 46 when this was recorded and it's supposed to be the golden age of a voice : the recording technic can be responsible but he might have been very bad.

  • Was I imagining it but there was some noise at 1:15?

  • ow...

he's tone deaf too. bummer for him. all that snippin' and the voice still be slippin'

  • hi mefondlevagina

the true horror is that he didn't let anyone... he was a young child and his parents had it done. he reached adulthood before he discovered that he could never father a child. such horror is shown in the pain and suffering of his voice.

    good wishes

    robbie

  • hi rolasandos

i think you are trying to be abusive or maybe you just don't understand biology. my mother was a woman. ALESSANDRO MORESCHI was a castrated man - that didn't turn him into a woman.... but it did destroy his manhood. and i feel compassion for his suffering.

    good wishes

    robbiew8n

  • reguardless of that rolasando said, you were right, castrati were actually like the rockstars of their time... they were ladies men, it was like birth control. I feel bad that he didnt chose that path.

  • heya janet20099

yes they were the rockstars of their time.... apparently the ladies "swooned" in the the presence of the castrati !

as for rolasandos - he feels it's important to abuse people - he has abused me in private messages, put abusive comment on my channel page and even damaged my account....... what kind of person does that ?

have fun janet 20099, take care.

    robbiew8n

  • lol the only approperiate reply I could make to that woukd just be, someone that doesnt know music of the time. Such a shame some people just cant fully grasp and get the affect of this music., so in that sense, I feel a bit sad for him.. but I hate that about your account for you. best of luck.

  • @cleon64 hmmm........ thank you replying to me, i think??? yet yours is a strange comment on the horrors that the roman catholic church committed upon these boys without their understanding or permission: doctors destroyed the potential manhood of these boys. maybe you are sexually confused? listen to his voice, feel his saddness. good wishes to you, robbie

  • @robbiew8n I think you don't understand the fact that perhaps, you were trolled, or somebody was just picking on the video. On the internet, people don't take things nearly as seriously as they do offline - remember that. Still, you post a good response. I wish you the best! :) But remember: never take somebody too seriously online - they may just be playing with you! Peace be with you, my dear friend. :)

  • @bytesize i greatly appreciate your reply. what is "trolled" please? i am happy to take thing seriously and i am always open to someone telling me that it was not serious afterwards, then revise my opinion of the comment. however, i do think "it's only the internet" is a poor excuse for some of the abuse on here - calling people by foul words, accusing them of paedophelia, offences about colour and sexuality. we accept these things at our peril: they diminish our humanity. robbie

  • @robbiew8n Hehe, "trolling" or being "trolled" is when somebody says something just for the shock value, or effect of readers. They don't necessarily intend it, but do it just to stir up people's emotions. I mean, just look at the user's name - BonerPirate. :P

  • @bytesize hey bitesize! always, after some unpleasantness on here, i find a decent person like you. you have incfreased my vocabulary by one word. maybe next time, i shall know when i have been "trolled" hahahaha and , well yes, "bonerpirate" = now that really is gay hehehehe, robbie
