This test kit is not really for testing gold coins, rings or other junk gold. It is for testing gold that you are mining. There are better ways to test coins and jewelry.
Bottles would have to contain nitric and hydrochloric acid. The testing stone is usually made of basalt. For higher karatages the solution is aqua regia ( a mixture of both acids) Aqua Regia is the only acid that will dissolve gold completely. Nitric acid is used alone for 14K and lower.
Unfortunately that test is useless because a good forgery would use a tungsten core completely surrounded by real gold. So it would test positive for gold but still be a fake. The only full proof way to test a gold a coin is to cut it in half.
@numag1 If you cut a coin in half then you would lose the face value of the coin. Sure you would be able to melt it down, but many ounce coins are worth the value of the spot price of gold plus the $50 face value. If it is a rare coin it could be worth a lot more.
Those gold needles that are on that hoop, are to mark your suspected gold on the stone.
So say you mark a 14k item on the stone, you lay the 14k pin out next to that mark that way you are able to remember what it is should you test multiple items at 1 time.
Well man......I don't actually know why this reaction takes place. But I have the silver acid test kit. The test kit test as high as 92.5 pure. A positive test will test a deep red. Red is Red and it doesn't differentiate between .999 and 92.5 fine. But the lower the purity will cause the acid (once placed on the silver) will turn as low as a green (on .500 pure Mexican silver coins and I think brown on an .800 fine silver coin).
Excellent Video, Just wanted to Throw some info out there. When Testing silver always put acid directly on the metal, but not just once i recomend doing it 3 times on the same spot to eliminate any thick silver plating. If the acid turns red by the 3rd application you're good to go.
If you use the edge of your coins you won't leave an obvious scratch. Any acid that touches the surface will ALWAYS leave damage. Remember LOL....it's acid.
and if it does not change colour if u use either 10 or 14 how do you know which one of those it is???

yes u are right it also depends upon quantity
can u plz tell me which particular acids is used in this video to test gold
manpreetsingh9243 2 years ago
The little things you have in the red pouch are.
Acid Test Needles
They are used to determine karat content of gold and silver
The needles and the item to be tested are rubbed on a test stone and treated with acid to determine a match
