this vid brings back some great memories of seeing them live in '89or '90,at the Powerstation.and seeing the orig clip on radio with pictures in the early '80s :) classic
@kellymonster77 Looks like it was the first revival tour, they all look a tad older and the tempi were a touch slower because I don't think Maher had touched a kit for years before they had reformed.
agree about Maher (always looked the coolest) but I didn't rate Topper quite as much as I did Rat S. Though I sort of thought Kenny Morris the best of the lot. The other Morris, Steven, turned out not bad either.
Somehow thirty years ago I never thought I'd be having this conversation... ~ !
Agree. He played with such enthusiasm and added to the music, rather than just keeping the beat (which is hard enough in itself). One of my favorites.
Can't remember the year, either 80 or 81, or even both, Maher was voted second in the best drummer section of the NME annual poll. First was Cozy Powell......A fantastic and original musician, and a great band then and now...
@Scrotemeister the drumming on this made me* buy the album when we were listening to it on a trip to HMV Oxford St in 1978. It came in it's own silver carrier bag.
*ok, it was my mate Dave that actually bought it. I just taped it later.
And here we are, 31 years later, and I just saw them live at the Mouth of the Tyne festival - fantastic
Without a doubt one of the buzzcocks best songs..in my opinion..The drumming was spot on and soooooooo good....ever fallen inlove comes soo close to this song..but im afraid this song is better i feel..:):):)
@sham64andahalf Garvey is a top bloke. He bought me a bag of chips after their gig at the Glasgow Apollo back in '78 or '79 when Joy division supported.
The year Keith moon died, John Maher was voted best living drummer in the NME poll, and I've always thought it was 'cos of this track. What a stonker! My mum used to go mad at me for drumming along to this on the settee! Between this, the U.K. Subs and the Banshees, 'Sceam', I confess holes eventually appeared! Ah, happy days.
This is such a cool song. Did they play this at MSG when they opened for Pearl Jam? They definitely should of if they didn't. I remember the set was mostly fast punk and I never heard of them before that night. Eddie Vedder said later on that night that if it wasn't for the Buzzcocks, they'd probably sound like Good Charlotte or something.
1st gig for me too. Dublin September 1978, still have the ticket, it cost £2 and The Sinners supported. Great memories of the gig, I was scared stiff of all the punks! Brilliant though!!!!
Pretty good sound for live. I dig the drum bit. I always try to replicate it with pencils & my hands. Yes, I have no life. Took a girlfriend to see Buzzcocks back in 1993. She wasn't impressed since she was into Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos & Kate Bush. That ain't BUZZCOCKS!
before the second instrumental break, steve diggle breaks a string on his guitar & has to make up the last part of the rift. during the drum solo, he replaces his guitar.
Great song! Great band! Love Steve Diggle's playing on this. None of that 1000 notes per second garbage. Just tasteful, melodic playing that gives the song exactly what it needs.
havent seen this footage before, great track, I remember buying this back then as an aussie import 12" on the wizzard label clear vinyl WOW, when i saw the buzzcocks just 3 weeks ago at the churchill in bromley they played this in their set & still sounds great
bleedin' brilliant - last track from their brilliant album "Another music in a different kitchen" - never seen it live before - excellent drumming throughout.
this was recorded in nottingham england at the central tv studios, 14th dec '89...it was the last gig on their first tour in 8 & a half years. you can find it on a video/dvd called "buzzcocks-live legends". drummer john maher left the band after this gig, but returned 2 years later to fill in a number of dates when his replacement mike joyce (ex-the smiths) left.
this & white man by the clash are my favourite songs ever. amazing live performance by the Buzzcocks!

poor Steve Diggle, so hard to hit those high notes from 3:10 onwards when the high e string is dangling below his knees :)

current buzzcocks' drummer danny ferrant does this song a little differently, but it's still fantastic.
also, check out "late for the train" on youtube which buzzcocks also play on their current tour as well as this gem.

lucky you, if he's as good a teacher as he is a player, you'll be able to play this one in no time at all.
all the best.

John Maher was/is a bloody fantastic drummer. Him and Topper Headon were the best of their generation.

bassist seems not to be John Maher.
In short, is this an film of the 90's?
I think that it influenced tunes of bands of neo psychedelic if it says in this tune.
I'm sorry by a saucy comment.
Thank you for up-loading.

Thanks for posting this sham64andahalf.I based my drumming style on john Maher's.
Pulse beat is my favorite. All my mates used to come down to my ma's house and watch me do pulse beat all afternoon.
I believe John set up his own firm, something to do with VW's.Jonah Razor Cuts.
