@moonbeast32 Watching someone play a scary game is completely different from actually playing it. Playing it alone, in a small, closed in, dark room with headphones. Especially if you live in an already creepy house. I saw a giant shadow of a hand on our wall years ago, everyone was on the porch on the other side of the house and there were no lights so a shadow can't even be created, so I definitely know my house is pretty scary already and Amnesia just made it worse.

The reason why this game scares people more than all the other survival horror games is because in Amnesia you are defenseless.

In Silent Hill you would see the monster, you'd attack it and kill it (that was your experience) where as in Amnesia you are forced to use you wits to escape these deadly creatures. There is no attack and there is no defend. There is only one thing you can do and that is run.

@paulvenkman still you can throw rocks and/or barrels at the monsters to stun them temporarily, and i also read on wikipedia that if you hold a barrel, the monster passes by you without attacking(AI glitch)

Barrels just piss off the monsters. If you're going to make a break for it then plan your escape. You're gonna want to stick boxes / barrels in doorways so you can jump over them easily and not have to worry about the monster catching up to you.

If you haven't already got the game the AI Glitch will have probably been fixed by the game creators so don't even think about, besides it's a way more exhilarating experience to have something chasing you down a long dark hallway.

@lovestospooge39 Silent hill: shattered memories. It was also released on the ps2 and psp if my memory serves me well. Motion controls lend themselves surprisingly well to horror games. This is especially true for shattered memories. Controlling the flashlight with the wiimote is possibly one of the most immersive game experiences I've come across in a long time, and for that reason, among others, shattered memories is easily the best silent hill game since SH3

What's funny is that the "health" in this game are vials of laudanum, a derivative of opium. So basically, Brad's character isn't healing himself, just getting himself high as hell to where he feels like he is. He's gonna have a pretty rude awakening whenever he stops taking the drug!
