Bro....lefty or not.....like Larry or not....you've got people listening to what you're saying through that fine instrument. Keep it up and God bless man!
Man, this made my day! I watched Larry Graham perform in Paris last week online and found your video of "Hair." Thanks for posting it and keep on being "Funky" on the bass!
people ask me everywhere, is that really all your hair, i just tell them if it aint, sure don't mean that naw i caint ... HAIR LYRICS BY LARRY GRAHAM OF GRAHAM CENTRAL STATION, OAKLAND, CALI.
I love this. Any chance you might help out a youngster like me and post another video of this same groove so the camera is in time with your playing? I really want to see the fingering without the shuttering of the camera. I know you probably dont have the time, but I would sure love it.
Playing with Frank was a great experience. He knew every note the whole band was playing tour after tour. It was the greatest challenge for me to create the right groove and choice of notes for Frank to build his solos from.
So many magical moments when we would just crack up laughing on stage. He dug where I was coming from. Sort of R&B fused into Rock. We played alot of jazz and talked about it for hours. The best times of my life!
Don't get me wrong, it has it's perks, but nobody wants to be creative (except for lots of metal heads and county players) nothing down right funky like this.
If you plugged your bass directly into a recording device, I recommend you reduce the volume on your active bass, this will help get rid of the input gain clipping/distortion. Active basses are known for this when recording direct.
woah, that's weird. i guess i've just sort of assumed that they've been around since the beginning of time. i don't know how to read music, but i would happily learn because i love this song
I don't know, man, but the editing/camerawork is a little delayed. I'm getting dizzy. Or it could be that I'm a little drunk, too. :/ Otherwise, sounds great!
Thanks for the comment. I didn't improvise at all so there's a little stiffness there I must admit! Could you play it for me so I could hear your groove???
i'm trying to get a decent webvid setup so i can record, so watch this space :P just play around with the accents and let the rhythm swing, listen to silly putty by stanley clarke and you'll get what i mean
2 different songs mate! Hair's got that driving 16th feel, like a freight train coming at you. It's been 30 years since I played Silly Putty, but it's a lot slower and slinkier.

limeyamos 3 years ago
Hello limeyamos, Thankyou for your comment.
I actually spent hours dialing in the level. The volume was so low during recording.
I could barely hear it!
Not having proper recording equipment makes me strive to play better, therefore enhancing character to the performance.

Oo lefty like me, I have a lefty Fender Jazz as well, except its a natural finish. Nice playing bro! Wish I could slap lol, never practice slapping.

Nothing! Just a mini jack into my lap top. The J Bass is active, so it helps.
dowsemeister 4 years ago
your bass is active right? is there any way i can get that sound using a outbox preamp such as the sansamp bass driver?
dookiemoole 4 years ago
Yes it's active.... Yes the sansamp, or Sadowsky pre amp/DI box with a Fender Jazz will get that sound.
