@LMMEjsmith It's Hackett on guitar, during his last tour with Genesis. Stuermer joined the band for live shows starting in 1978, on the And Then There Were Three tour. Also I'm quite sure the '77 tour was the only time Eleventh Earl was played live in full.
@abbotskerswellpostie Which proves that 'gabriel' wasn't as responsible for the sound of Genesis as the rest of the band together. Wouldn't say this was quite like the Gabe-era of Genesis- they definitely were in a transitional phase with Trick & Wind. Wouldn't say they 'sold out'- just got bored with long epic songs such as this (much as WE love them) and decided to change, as did Gabriel after he left. But you're right to some extent- by Duke they were on a whole different musical platform.
@StudioAnnur337 they streamlined some shit but they would always bust out an epic with home by the sea, domino, fading lights, they never forgot their prog roots. Made the more commercial material easier to handle.
The 22nd Earl of Mar, (Scotland's answer to Colonel Custer,) was pretty much responsible for the failed uprising following his bizarre act of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory at Sheriffmuir in Nov 1715. Bonnie Prince Charlie wasn't actually born for another 5 years so I'm not really surprised he was a couple of weeks late. He did, however, turn up 30 years later.
The 11th Earl of Mar actually died in 1332 & wasn't much of a Jacobite.
@BoBo0807 ooooh, that's cold ! Tony and Steve worked together SO WELL on songs like "Entangled" and "In That Quiet Earth" , I can understand why Steve wanted to leave(he truly can NEVER be re-placed!) ,hope they can forgive and maybe...re-unite (with Anthony Phillips on an all 12-string project,eh?!)
Well this proves what I'd known for almost 30 years, there WAS a live version of this awesome track around, and with the correct line-up ie with Steve Hackett playing. Makes me sad that it was left off the newly remastered "Seconds Out", not only did that live box set (which featured "Seconds Out") do me out of SACD version,it also omitted some spectacular live material of which this is just one glaring example! Anyway, thanks for posting-Peter.
@peterkin1010 If U liked this check out TM Productions "Live In London (The Rainbow Reels)" in Genesis - The Movements torrent site. It´s a Pre-FM recording from Rainbow Theater which should be up and running, not the full show but it features EEOM. The Southampton boot is a soundboard (cassette tape) source with an inferiour mix. If you´re not a member already just sign up for membership at Genesis - The Movement torrents and you´ll find a plentitude of Old Gems!
RIP Alan Freeman. Played this every Sat am. Thank yo, Alan

Heavenly music, very deep, not less from Bach or Mozart.

i'm sure it's been asked already, but: since this is '77, i'm assuming that Hackett is on guitar? Or is it Stuermer?

Not a chance - - if he had you wouldn't be able to hear Steve at all.
