@Rauoq Funny you should mention that. I took that scene from the Jingle all the way movie and put an original Johnny Seven commercial over Sin Bad's description of the commercial. It matched almost perfectly! I had it up on youtube but of course Sony pulled it for copyright infringement.
"Micro Helmet! Micro Helmet! Micro Helmet!" and now, 40+ years later, we have "Head On! Apply directly to the forehead! Head On! Apply directly to the forehead! "Head On! Apply directly to the forehead!" Also, it sounds like the kid at 0:05 is saying "Ommagommagommanummanumma!" In all actuality, I wanted these toys myself when I was a kid. Maybe in the back of my mind I still do.
yep,all these peacenicks and p.c. pansies are turning this country into a real shithole....man up america and buy your kids some good ol' fun toy guns and turn out some more real men. these toys were great.
My best Chistmas gift too. Isn't political correctness great. These politically correct jackasses are turning us into sheep so that the rest of the world can come in and slaughter us!
(Mirum says)....Yeah, my dad DIDNT get me a jonny 7.......look at me now!! (Howard says)......But it's just a doull, it's just a stupid douuulll!! (Mirum says).......Ah ah ah ahhh!!....Dat's.....ACTION FIGURE!!!
Microhelmet ! For years I remembered it as Monkey Helmet...Oh Boy the Mind of a kid ...BUT it was still So Cool. The Sixties where playing army was fun.....Looking back though you have to wonder...
I had the Johnny 7as a youth, takes me back. Those backyard war games were all but over with that bad boy! These days this would be politically incorrect.
Interesting to note the use of the Asian sounding gong as the various features of the toy are demonstrated, considering the Johnson administration was just ramping up the war in Indochina at this time.
I had one of these, and my best friend next door did too. It was pretty awesome when we would play "Army" with the other kids in the neighborhood. So much firepower..... The Tommy Gun part failed pretty quickly, but the pistol was pretty robust and fired caps petty reliably. Never had the helmet though.
OMG!!! It did exist! I remember hearing about this gun in the movie "Jingle All the Way." (when Myron talked about how he wanted one of these for christmas.) I always thought it was one of those products the writers made up for the movie.
I made a video of that scene and put the original commercial footage in while Sinbad was telling about the commercial. The video came out great, but the owners of Jingle all the way pulled it for copyright infringement. I offered to pay them for the use of the clip and they did not even have the courtesy to respond.
I saw this advert on UK TV when I was a kid & badly wanted one - it never happened though. I think the price was about 37/6 in pre decimal money - about £1.75 GBP!! We were poor and my dad couldn't stretch to it. Too bad!
Absolutely great Dude thanks for the research. I am 46 now and i had one when i was about 4-5 y.o., it was absolutely the best toy i ever had. I used to play with it for hours alone in our minuscule backyard saving the worl from all sorts of ennemy attacks. Later in life i became a police officer, think there's a link ? :-). I am now searching on e-bay to try and buy one, i would proudly display it somewhere in a glass casing or something. Brings back a lot of memories i tell you.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. If your looking for one, drop a message to "dezurtdude" on youtube or E-Bay. Same name on both sites. He totally strips the guns and referbishes them. Check with him and see if he has any now. For quicker service, tell him I sent you.
ahahahaaa, my dad was trying to explain this too me, he said him and his brother used to play with them, i can imagine him as the wee guy with the helmet :P
I've got to hand it to you!!! Great commercial. Where did you get it? I've been looking all over for it! Excellent. I should be posting a real Johnny Seven One Man Army very soon. As soon as the vid camera battery is charged. Thanks for sharing!
I got 3 VHS tapes with commercials from a tag sale 10 years ago. Most of them were food and cigarette commercials but there were a couple of toys on them.
