  • you are wrong sir, why would it only be the world against korea, they have a higher standard of play but they are not gods. There are many players outside of korea who can easily match the korean standard. There is going to be a big scene for starcraft 2 but it will not just be korean against everyone else. You will always have the style of MLG and GSL even now more than a year later we still have that style where it is a player on a team in 1v1 fighting his way through korean and non korean

  • @BreakPointSC what do you see right now? koreans coming to AMERICAN tournaments and DOMINATING. Look at the big picture on waht is really happening.

  • After watching this video a year later, I can see it happening. MLG, GSL, NASL, IPL, etc. It's happening worldwide. Heck, there's even an NBA player who plays SC2! Kudos to you sir.

  • No one can beat Korea.... look what they did with sc1

  • @emerorjung huk bet koreans and won a big fat cheque at dreamcup

  • thanks for the video

  • Its cumming. cumming

    Yeaaaaah~

  • Korea= Skynet. OH FUCK.

  • this isnt new dude... CAL Invite CEVO pro ESEA invite all have teams with guys that are getting paid to play some even making a living. Video games are video games and thats it. You can make SOME cash playing but not alot and not for long.

  • you need a life.

  • For those who doubt this: Have you watched the GSL, NASL, and MLG? Know about IdrA? Starcraft 2 is becoming the face of international gaming.

  • @MrDerekftw ye and idra is losing all of the games in code S and so goes for all foreigners , only the koreans is able to win gsl lol

  • Korea also Revolutionized Breakdancing. This may sound irrelevant but you seem smart enough to understand. In the Breakdancing Community (just like there exist a gaming community) The Koreas Uplifted Breakdancing to a whole new level, World Wide. Its been 10 years since they entered the International Breakdancing Community, and no one has touched them on a technical level. I can see the parallels with StarCraft as well, thats why they announced starcraft 2 in Korea.... Youtube--> Bboy The End

  • We korean dedicated to play starcraft brood wars with micro and blizzard turns their back on us by making starcraft 2 based on macros.

  • @DeeStylistic ur the one who dosent know shit. Do you know how seriously kotmreans take starcraft? They play it probably 50-60 hrs a week

  • This guy doesn't know shit. He's talking about cultures he doesn't have a fucking clue about. What do you expect from someone wearing a Sea Shepherd shirt? He probably has more misinformed shit about the Japs.

  • Seems like people don't understand the size of gaming industry in korea lol we have professional teams sponsored by like real company, leagues, and tv channel only for games.... This guy was really right. i mean i now hear korean players going to international league in China and everywhere...but i am not sure it will continue since korea sort of decided to stay with the original.

  • KOREA HAS THE FASTEST INTERNET EVER BECAUSE IT NEVER FREEZE OR DOING SLOW INTERNET LIKE THAT BUT ITS AWESOME COUNTRY

  • dude...world cup soccer of video gaming?....you took it too far there.

  • @thcorp1 No he didn't, it's going to be even bigger than soccer. The world moves on, gaming moves on.

  • this guy called it

  • @jrmendoza7 I know LOL, this guy is awesome.

  • "the first time"? sorry, sc1? it was sold in every country in every region and it was the world against korea, and the hype around sc2 makes it big but at a pro lvl there's still the same people. and now many months later there's still no bigger gaming scene. it's just something you gotta move to korea/japan for.

  • @sshiftyp No dude, there's so many more tournaments around the world and in the US, sc2 is crazy, it's a movement. If you haven't seen everything, then you haven't been keeping up. So far right now, this guy is completely right. Soon it's going to be The world vs korea in sc2.

  • Not all Koreans play the game. You are kinda retarded for saying something like "the world against Korea" (which never happened) and gamers usually retire after 3~4 years and new people come up so how can you say they played all this time?

  • @3addictingwhitepants oh noooo good korean players plays for 8-13 years bro. Slayers Boxer made over million dollars by starcraft

  • props for being right man, the gsl world vs korea this week was/is the most awesome games ive seen

  • lol i'm Korean and my 1v1,2v2,4v4 is gold ( I don't play much) and my 3v3 is diamond.

  • Its not a great game? Then what's the greatest RTS of all time, if not the Starcraft franchise?

OK, maybe I get it. You're either trying to separate yourself from the crowd that deifies Starcraft to give yourself clout with skeptics, or convince yourself you're smarter than them...

But seriously, this IS Blizzard Entertainment.. you can wear a mantle of skepticism, but their games have always revolutionized the industry, but this has more to do with the company's product than it's reception.

  • What's the point? South Korea will dominate video games? Someone sitting all day long playing games will become the most popular gamers guy? awesome... you can enjoy playing these games for a while but not to allow the games play with you...

  • you mad

  • Even at release, Starcraft 2 was ranked about 20th in internet cafe play time in Korea. Starcraft 1 held it's position at no.4.

There's a huge background to this debate, and how Blizzard ditched the KeSPA because they wanted all the tournaments and rights to go under them, and how KeSPA forbids any of their teams from switching over to SC2.

  • lol. im korean and i fail at SC2 im an exception xD

  • Why does it have to be 12 years old vs. 12 year olds? That was offensive...Yes kids play games but there are people like me "age/25" who grew up with these games and still play to this date.

  • lol, this is how countries should fight wars.

  • @ruhtraeel

The original has been played for 12 years so I don't think so.

  • @CubesRcool

Yeah, and Koreans are going to continue to play Starcraft 1, not switch over.

  • @ruhtraeel they already did bro/... (what overwhelming12 said)

  • Just watch GSL.

  • doode u thinkin too far lol this shit gonna die 5yr from now.. i can garuntee :D

  • @BugsB33zy

I agree. Starcraft 2 will become like Crysis; great reviews, but it's going to die out pretty soon, just cause of a lack of professional competition.

  • @ruhtraeel more and more people are beginning to play this game. and on the fact that there are players earning 6 figure annual salary.

  • @ruhtraeel Starcraft 2 will be like crysis? What??

  • @BugsB33zy actually bugs its already been around for 15 yrs!

    ur 14 yrs to late....sry..

  • @BugsB33zy starcraft 1 was release 12 years before starcraft 2 was released. and it was consistently played all the way through. world tournaments (gsl, nasl, etc) keeps this alive, and consistently competitive, 5 years isn't enough for this to die out. too many koreans have dedicated their lives to starcraft to die out in 5 years.

  • @BugsB33zy ill take that bet

  • good insight man, the GSL is kind of the start of exactly what you predicted.

  • WGT happens every year

  • Once i buy starcraft 2 im going to nerd that game out!

  • I saw sc2 is really big in the states and in korea. and i think itll be really great if everybody could battle over sc and get excited and have fun...but sc isnt popular in Japan at all (im japanese) nobody knows and i dont think its going to be popular either. its really a fun game so its a shame. :( but gaming is really going down the hill in Japan...and i guess other countries as well. So i think sc had a big impact on only certain countries. sadly, thou

  • 2012 OMG O_O.......XDDD

  • genius

  • I really want to believe you. I'm a very good competitive tournament goer in multiple games, but I've decided to quit gaming for a little bit because I'm not sure how big it will actually get.

  • you are very high...

  • Its also a great game... Ur a noob guy

  • Koreans are macro players. You put a cap on supply, you just gave everyone else a chance.

  • @holydogable wrong... koreans are "everything" players

  • That was hard to watch cuz SC2 isn't going to get anybody to put down the sticks and the rest of the world has been vs. Korea for years now. We have those MLG/ESPN reports which are pretty chill. But we're a long ways from Korea's StarLeague which has been on TV in Korea like NFL/NBA over here for years.

  • atm most of top player arent korean, gonna takes few years before the majority of pro gamer switch

sc2 will create tons of new progamer tho

  • Starcraft 2 is not released in South Korea for child yet, they got 18+ rating which slows the sales. Also the game is free you dont have to purchase it like in europe / us.

We really dont know what will happens, but i guess starcraft 2 wont be AS important AS starcraft 1 in Korea.

I really dont know what may happen, but it can be from "ok", to AN INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON that launches the new pro gaming era.

I really dont know, we will see, but interesting video !!!

  • @Xecutionner2K There is a (bloodless or something) version which 12 year old kids may buy in Korea.

  • if u have a gift for playing SC2 and love to play game all the time, come to Korea and join into any pro-league club. U will get paid for playing game. and some korean audience wanna see asian fighting with white people in their game leagues, which means u could be very easily employed without any reason. and u dont even need educational background actually. haha

  • @wcharm1987

What do you mean by white ? They are as white, if not even more white, as us. And i will be honest, the smartest people are those of very pale skin (japanese, koreans, western world, china, mongolians).

  • @Xecutionner2K

We really don't see StarCraft pro-gamer who is either White or Black, but only Asians, in our game leagues today. (assume that I am a korean living in Korea) That's why we would want some white people, or other races, to come into Korea more and join in Pro-league, so that this gaming world become even more bigger.

  • @wcharm1987 I dont think people will change their nationality just to play Starcraft. :P But there are actually non-korean people who were pretty successfull in Broodwar, speaking of people like Drako or Mondragon.

  • @wcharm1987

It happened to three FRENCH speaking people => Elky@JH / Tod (warcraft 3) / and Grrrr...

Except those people, i cannot think of any competitive white that could make a living games in korea (for RTS i am speaking)

  • Korean pro-gamer vs World? hahaha... I hope Blizzard would release SC2 into Japan and China first! And also Blizzard should bring Vulture and Firebat back again. Personally, Helion and Maradour are not good replacements for Firebat and Vulture. there were no even moving spider mine which makes game much funnier as enemy go through it.

  • The guy in this vid seems to be talking more about what he'd want to see rather than what's going to happen.

Gaming tournaments will continue to grow in Korea, I don't know about America but there's pretty much zero interest in this in the UK. We don't have any videogames shows on TV at all now, there used to be loads!

It'd be awesome if Korean style gaming took off in the West, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

  • But I think its going to be all about the mighty dollar, just like X games got sponsored by corporations and moutain Dew, for E sports like SC2 to be huge its going to have to be backed by Intel, AMD, Invidia, Blizzard, ETC. They have to come together and for the common good and realize holding big tourneys with huge prize monies up in the 100K range is when it becomes attractive. I agree thought, we are at a crossroad, either E sports happens now, or never at all.

  • I agree! I just had an argument with a friend about how big E sports will be in the next few years.

There is a lot of us men/boys, who weren't born to be 6'6" basketball players, we didn't get the gene to run a 40yrd in 4.5 sec and score TD. So does that mean we are less of a man than those who can?

There is a lot of us gamers who have been waiting for our day in the spot light. We spend hours of practice and prep to reach a the level of expertise and skill, why don't we get any recognition?

  • Koreans have changed StarCraft 2 which is a good thing because the new tools and engine upgrades to StarCraft II allow for a much more competitive experience. Look at how "easy" it is now for people to shoutcast games with free services that exist like YouTube. Blizzard created such an awesome system. StarCraft II was the only game that i've ever played and have known to have hosted a several tournaments with a prize pool of several thousand dollars... IN BETA. Amazing.

  • sucks that koreans have to pay a monthly subscription. but a smart move by blizzard, theyre going to make a shit load.

  • We need a way to deal with the Koreans! I am asian and im tired of Koreans acting tuff

  • @sengoku17 lmao, you must be very awkward in reality

"acting tuff" what are you talkin about?!

  • @sengoku17 lol seems like you need to do some social life before talkin about Koreans bro.

  • Damn Koreans, they're the reason i stopped playing starcraft. "Hey I feel like starcraft today" (20 seconds later) "WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED! HOW IN THE HELL!"

  • the koreans will see each other at the final again and no one else

  • Starcraft is great and all but I'm not gonna focus my life around it. I have a lot of other things to do. I'm just gonna finish the campaign and occasionally play on battlenet. I already have an online business that I make my living from.

  • It does but,a sport? It should stay at tournaments before it becomes even more of a reason to stay at home.75% of adults in our country our obese and it's said that it's gettting worse and worse with children.I can contain my gaming and still have a social life, but people don't need to start trying to become "pro gamers" instead of getting a real job.

  • E-sports is already a big thing in and out of Korea. There are plenty of people in America that would be considered "professional gamers."

Competitive gaming is going to grow exponentially over the next few years and while it is kind of degrading to compare gamers to athletes, these gamers are going to be paid pretty well for what they do. I suppose it does take a lot of dedication and practice to become the best at even video games.

  • @Vrojimmy

I don't think it is degrading to athletes. It's like modernized chess. Of course the basics of becoming good at a game like Starcraft is macro, reaction time and experience. However, making the right decisions in every situation is the skill that will set gamers apart. For instance in tennis. You can train as much as you want, but it comes down to what you actually do in tennis games to become the best. So I would compare gaming to sports.

  • Meh one game can't revolutionize international gaming. It's going to take a lot of international fame of more games to do that.Even in a few years I doubt gaming will be considered a real "profession" so to speak.

  • It was just one game that created the experience in Korea that we now have.

  • @AgentSpiral well top korean starcraft players make $200k+ a year. call it what u want, but that's alot of money.

  • @lucirz I'm not saying can't be a profession. That was proven along time ago.I was simply stating that it shouldn't be used as an excuse to get a real job.If you dedicate yourself to gaming like those people and you can SURELY compete internationally then do it.But if your 17 and your good at games don't think, well I'm not going to go to college because Imma be a PRO Gamer".That's just ignorant and lazy. You would get demolished by people who do this for a living. That's whats going to happen.

  • @AgentSpiral well look at basketball players or rappers, i don't consider those "real jobs". most of them fail when it comes to school but they are making alot of money....

  • @lucirz If gaming gets more and more popular and starts becoming a sport. And the world is already fatter than it has been ever before gaming won't encourage physically or social activity at all.It will just turn people into hermits.

  • @AgentSpiral but nevertheless, making gaming your carreer is stupid. because it's a short lived career. sure you make some good money but once it's over (which is quick) then you're fucked. but using video game as a hobby to make some good money while your pursue a stable profession is a good think. a part-time pro gamer one migh say :D

  • @lucirz Yes like sponsorships and stuff?I agree.

  • @AgentSpiral Soccer, Football, Tennis, Hockey, ect.

    Why not Starcraft my friend?

  • @AgentSpiral in korea... pro gaming is considered a real "profession"

    yea... really...

  • @AgentSpiral It already is in Korea. And Starcraft is so popular because it's a RTS that's almost perfectly balanced, and such aggressive gameplay that's literally addicting.

  • CHINA will soon dominated starcraft 2 also.. wait and see

  • @AgentSpiral

just look where international gaming now is.. thx to sc2

(i know ur comment is old but just notice that u have been wrong)

  • Yeah~ I agree that..

  • you are right bro but not just in korea soon we will see countrys against countrys in video game tournaments , korea is just a biggining

  • What makes you sure that it won't be korea vs. korea? What makes you so sure that enough people outside Korea will care enough about StarCraft2 in order to have players that can keep up with korean players?

I agree with you, e-sports will become bigger in the future, but not so fast and not so big

  • There are good players all over the world. When battle.net gets opened to the world, there will be international tournaments that will be focused in Korea. The world will come to the Mecca of gaming for the challenge of it all. I don't think you have the vision yet, but give it about 12 months.

  • @sabot96 Korea makes quality players but there are several players outside of it tha tare much more powerful. White-ra, Day 9, TL team, Etc. We have strong players. dont over estimate korea its not that great.

  • @TenchiSaWaDa LOL stupid troll.. u have just proved how dumb u are by saying white-ra is powerful, also TL is the worse team i've ever seen and they've been playing the beta too. Western players are too technical about the game but when it comes down to skills, reflex, microing they are just plain trash. Leave it to the asians to evolutionize a game. just like japan dominates sf franchise, korea dominates sc. end of story.

White ra has got to be the shittiest sc player i've ever seen on utube.

  • @asfkdjaslkdfjasl He can still kick your ass so don't talk

  • @TenchiSaWaDa also why is korea not that great? they've dominated sc1 and now that sc2 is out everybody's hating on korea. All the western players are like oh korea sucks at sc2 blablabla.. sc2 and sc1 is the same shit what makes them think so highly of themselves when the westerners have completely abandoned sc1 while korea still plays it. Now that sc2 is out they suddenly think they dominate it by beating noobs online LMAO such infantile way of thinking.

  • @TenchiSaWaDa please don't compare a couple months old team such as TL which was started during the BETA of sc2, to korean teams who have been established for years. They have their own coaches and leagues and tv stations dedicated to sc2. They compete in leagues for money and glory, it is a sport there. A couple of guys getting together on a forums and then forming TL is not gonna even come close to the competition level in korea. Think before u talk u make me so mad by being so dumb.

  • @sabot96 it did not happen as far as you told, but its happening...razer, and other hardware companies invest more and more money. now the North american star league started, with 400.000$ prize money. ofcourse, nothing compared to the prizes in soccer...but well

  • @sabot96 just 1 month to go ;-)
