I was a bit surprised that, having carefully sanded and vacuumed the top, you then cut the roller on the same top afterwards. Also instead of calculating where the cable holder holes are, why not drill them through from the top first, glue the top op, then drill all holes from the bottom afterwards? You can then dowel the cable holes. Just a suggestion.
@ralph3163 Yes I should have cut the roller elsewhere. I used the top for a long time before laminating so the holder holes were there. They go thru ply into 4" lyptus about 2.5" inches. So drilling an accurate 6mm hole through almost 5" seems like trouble. . I can't remember the last time I used dowels for anything. I just don't use them. I do cut cross grained plugs on the drill press with plug cutters to cover screw holes though.
you save money by cutting roller in half, then you waste contact adhesive ??
