  • I think I listened to this when I was about 11-12 without really understanding/listening to the lyrics. Damn.

  • @sxtisfaction same here!!

  • Shut up gawd listen to the song!

  • Do you guys really have to fight over this and call each other bad names? Taiwanese isn't a language; Hokkien is a dialect, and Mandarin is a language. Chinese is a race.

  • his hair a bit toot toot here but its cute. :)

  • this song is so badass that jay chou wish he could hit his dad.

  • nice song..

  • lol, this argument about dialects from people who understand bugger all of either is funny.

Official language of ROC (Taiwan) is Mandarin. However there are minority dialects all over the place, one of the biggest is Hokkien understood by the majority of people. This is common all over Chinese territories. The huge diversity of dialects is one the main reasons for implementing Mandarin as an official state language. Otherwise Chinese from 2 towns dont understand each other.

  • @Buuub08

Pretty sure Mandarin was only introduced to Taiwan when the KMT came over.

  • @Buuub08 yup ,taiwanese IS mandarin.no such thing as chinese either.its either mandarin or some dialect of it.

  • @yulaw3 Sorry, what?? Taiwanese is not a dialect of Mandarin, and Mandarin isn't the only Chinese language that exists. Taiwanese Mandarin, which is the variety of mandarin spoken in Taiwan, is a dialect of Mandarin, just as American eng and British Eng are dialects of English. Taiwanese (as called by people who speak it in Taiwan) is a dialect of Hokkien (Fujian), which in turn is a "dialect" of Southern Min/Minnan, which is a Sinitic topolect related to Mandarin.

  • @treskro3 ok dad ,thanks,im sure taiwanese is a dialect of mandarin seen as it comes from china.as well as the chinese people who live there now.haha you stupid cunt.big words dont make u smart.

  • @yulaw3 wtf? That was completely incoherent. Unfortunately your pitifully uninformed empty skull somehow can't even comprehend that Mandarin isn't the only language spoken in China. Anyways...you're obviously a fucking waste of my time, as am I of everyone else, so bye.

  • @treskro3 up your ass, ur not fooling anyone frank haha

  • @yulaw3 You are totally wrong. Hokkien is not a dialect of mandarin just as Cantonese is not a dialect of Mandarin. They are separate languages with the same root. Just like Spanish and Italian are both derived from Latin. Educate yourself before you start running ur mouth and embarassing urself.

  • oh thanks for clearing the statement, i've been a jay chou lover since he started hehe i thought this song was about his parents THANK GOD it wasn't *phew* now i need to clarify it with my folks hehe =)

  • dude i love jay chou's music and how hes different from other "idols" and "pop" singers and that even though i dont understand the songs completely w/o subs u can still understand parts of it through how he expresses himself and his fantastic music videos XD

  • so cool~

  • @dragonzluver the language of taiwanese ppl is mandarin. only minor differences between some words like american and canadian english

  • @lilsunboy They also speak taiwanese along with a few other dialects. In this video he is singing in mostly mandarin but he does use taiwanese as well... and most chinese people cant understand it.

  • @lilsunboy Actually there is a Taiwanese dialect, mostly spoken by the older generation Taiwanese. Even though most of Taiwan speak Mandarin, they throw in a Taiwanese in their sentences.

  • @lilsunboy There is a Taiwanese dialect and it's far more than "minor differences." I speak both Mandarin and Taiwanese (a variation of Hokkien) and trust me, people who only speak Mandarin can't follow what's said in Taiwanese. Obviously you are not from Taiwan, so either get your facts straight first or don't try to misinform the world, thank you...

  • @bloodredrosez You are right. Taiwanese dialect and Mandarin are very different. I don't speak Taiwanese nor Mandarin but I love Taiwanese dramas and every time they speak Taiwanese instead of Mando, I know right away because it is so different.

  • @bloodredrosez Yup that's right..I only speak Hokkien (I was born in Malaysia and grew up in Canada) and I can barely understand Mandarin.

  • @K3nny905 That's sad... U shud learn mandarin. +u! Don't forget ur cultural identity...

  • @blackuredtube Why is it sad? I would love to learn mandarin but the fact is mandarin is the official language of China, it is NOT the language of the Chinese race. My family has been in Malaysia for hundreds of years and we only speak Hokkien. It'sour mother tongue. It doesn't make us any less Chinese. There are a lot of ppl in China (the older generation) that only speak their native language and don't speak Mandarin. I'm well aware of my cultural identity thank you.

  • Its sad but this happens everywhere

  • Classic :]

  • omg i've been looking for this song for a long time! finally found it! thanks!

  • i hope some husbands who bit their wives will learn something about it

  • jay chow is awesome..!

damnn , jay chou is amazing, this song has so much meaning in it, i hope through this song, some husbands who hit their wives learn something out of it .

    & it's not hokkien, it's taiyu ( taiwanese ) , it just sounds similar .

  • @xxhannahxchangxx taiyu is a dialect of hokkien (minnan), so..it's both?

  • @xxhannahxchangxx he's taiwanese but he speaks mandarin

  • There is no excuse for abuse, it doesn't matter what your gender, sexual orientation is. ABUSE IS WRONG.

  • so hard to understand the other language hes mixing in lol.. i wish my mother taught it to me :/

  • i like this song so much...

  • i like this song!

  • Good way to tell a story.

  • well i dont understand a word!!!

    but i like it

  • never get sick of this song :(

  • Jay Chou gone a bit Eminem

  • 個人覺得這仍然是目前為止Jay最具特色的作品, 和之後專輯中陳腔濫調很不一樣.

  • I have the english and chinese mix version on my page if anyone wants to hear it!^^ But I don't think the title was called 'Dad, I'm Home' because when i searched for this song, it was called 'Mother's tears'. whatever its called, i still like both version!

  • That's what I love about Jay Chou, he's not just a conventional pop singer--his songs really mean something, and he can be so inventive.

  • he like to release songs about famili like wai po, ting ma ma de hua...

    but its great..

    makes me cry....

  • Is this true about Jay's story? I'm kinda sad about it.

  • waaaaah, this is too sad.....

  • this song is not for himself,

it was written for his friend.

  • Everytime I see this song I click favorite...but its already there already haha.

  • this is e first song i heard from jay.. that time i find the song so unique and i go find who is the singer... haha

  • i like this song, especially the hokkien parts. Jay rocks. <3

  • omg, that so sad,,aww,,i love his songs,,ther thee best,,i take chinese class and i barely noe wat he's saying lol,,i recognize the dad though

  • Comment removed

  • Taiwanese are more hokkien. thats a dialect.

  • Oh, and jay tends to slur a lot...

  • the song's so full of emotion, at first i thought that he was talking about his father! jay chou's brilliant!

  • It's about fathers abusing their wives.

& JAY CHOU doesn't experience this, for god's sake.

He wrote this for a friend. -.-

  • whts th music video about? i dun really get it..

  • it is actually about his friend's domestic violence experience. He said it in one of his interviews..hehe,so Jay doesn't actually have a dark childhood:)

  • @LittleMissEggRoll No.. it's not about his friend.. it's actually a true story based on his childhood..

  • @LittleMissEggRoll

Because He did not even have a father

  • @LittleMissEggRoll But his parents did divorce when he was 13. Wikipedia says it was what caused him to be "reclusive and introverted". I am so in love with him xD

  • @Evening267 so in other words you're only attracted to male who reclusive and introvert?

  • @captdavidwebb Haha, definitely not! It's just that he's so talented and rather cute...but it was a phase of obsession, it passes quickly.

  • NICE!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Jay was happy and active as a child, his parents divorce did affect him but there was no domestic violence. he's on good terms with his dad.

  • 2:52-2:59 <--- intense!!

  • Jay Chou is saying that his dad is an alcoholic and he keep hitting his mother.

  • is jay sing himself father?

  • He denies that it was in any way related to his own family.

  • yeah, he said once in the interview that because of this song, his father was abit annoyed as people was thinking that it was referring to his father, in actual fact, his simply discussing the society's domestic violence's issue...

  • no idea what he is saying

just hear the mama and the papa part

  • i relate to this song so much jay chou is a genius

  • a man who beats a woman is an animal? i think he's worst than animal!

  • damn right

even animals can beat their wifes like that

  • 3:16-3:18

I like the lyrics in this part. It has a lot of meaning.

  • .....could you translate it, please? :O

  • I'm only canto, but mando sounds a bit like canto, all i can make out is that

he's saying that his dad was an alcoholic and all he did was hit his mother.

Great song.. Great Emotion, Keep on rocking Jay!

  • he must not have a good relationship with his dad

  • He is writing to his fren... he dun expirence dis...

  • as much trouble as i cause in school

    i dont hit girls

    :D

  • cool, he plays lots of instruments

  • where can i find this song?

  • Comment removed

  • Such a meaningful song, and so sad too. Jay Chou was able to use the right words and emotions and portrayed them fittingly for situations of domestic violence. It reminds me of my own family in a way, which lets me relate to this song a lot.

  • o.O

1st time seeing jay play cello~~

    cool~ xD

this song is full of meaning~

jay the best composer & singer ever!

too bad i dont understand hokkien n dunno how to read chinese~~ T_T

  • This song is so sad D: Hearing him sing "mai gan na lei da wo ma ma" with such emotion makes me want to bawl my eyes out. Omg, I can't even begin to express how wonderful Jay is. His music is so original and has such meaning to it, unlike other artists who make meaningless pop music about love and shit. Jay Chou is freaking awesome, no doubt ♥

  • hey..I do like jay chou rapping...BUT I think u ARE WRONG! becuase that is jsut wat u think...Other ppl will say...other artiest are the best,,and i think..thats is exectly the same..as u were saying..

  • Okay, so you disagreed with what I said, I don't mind. Cos hey, we all have our opinions and what I said about Jay was just what I thought about him and what I thought about his music. It doesn't mean that everyone has to agree with me. It's just an opinion.

  • Jay i love ur music this song reminds me of my dad sob sob .........

  • Nice song

    it tells the truth.

And like many other families out there, mines is not so good either.

Its good people are more aware of things like that now at days.

Jay Chou keep giving us the music we love, forever my support :)

  • ongjer hoW COULD UUE SAE THAT!!!UUE SO CLEVER,WHY DONT UUE TRY WRITING AND COMPOSING A DUMB AND IDIOT SONG YOURSELF!!! by the TIME U COMPOSED YOUR SONG,EARTH IS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY ROBOTS ALREADY

  • class

  • i liked this song from 3rd grade

it's so different from his songs now

  • It never happened to me, but when I hear him sing "don't hit my mom like that again" I wanted to cry. Some family are like that and I have seen it. The husband became drunk because of stress in life and take it on his wife. Fucking stupid.

  • oh my gosh, when that girl was jumping rope in slow motion, i was just thinking that everything is so interesting in slow motion. anything as simple as that then BAM a clapping noise. scared me to death :D but its the good kind of scare when you get to hear good music with it :P

    I'm just so mad today.

  • get a therapist?

  • yea. Get a therapist and understand the language before u make ur assumptions about the entire race!

  • I don't think abuse is limited to a single culture.

  • erm, he isnt rapping about gangsters... not trying to be gangster

  • Has he rapped in Hokkien before?

  • yes

  • i really love his songs, coz his songs are kinda meaningful. ^^

  • its about his dad.. hiting his mom

  • His parents divorce about this thing. His father frequently drink beers and liquor. Its a bad habit. Just like his father in Initial D.

The song听妈妈的话is also a gift for his mum.

  • I know,that's a really sweet song.
