@jaredwithface I always like it when other people observe animals closely enough to try to figure out what the animals are thinking. I do that all the time!
I normally take the trip up there every year from delaware. My kids love it. It's been a tradition of ours now. My hubby was born close to the zoo and told me about him going as a child. I love this zoo. Love the animals, and even tho i wasn't able to go last year, i am sad the elephants are gone. Love making the 2 1/2 trip up there to see all the animals again. We take from 9am to 4pm to view the whole park. We love taking our time and enjoy the experience. Your videos are awesome and thank you
@Skittles2210 Thank you - I'm glad you enjoy my videos. I really enjoy recording them and sharing them with other people who love the Philadelphia Zoo. I hope you will be able to visit the Zoo this year. And if you do, please let me know what you think of the various changes, such as the converting the Pachyderm House to a Children's Zoo, etc. and I would always appreciate hearing any other thoughts you have about the Zoo, too.
Even though I have not visited the Zoo for a while, I still love the individual animals. I checked out the site to make sure all the same animals are at the Zoo (I know the elephants are gone), and I did not see the American Crocodile on the list. The Nile Crocodile, the Chinese Dwarf Alligator, and the American Alligator were on the list, but the American Crocodile wasn't. What happened to the American Crocodile (whose name was Harry, I think)?
The Philadelphia Zoo is 45 sq. acres, which I think is the perfect size to allow visitors to see all the animals during each visit.
I do not work for or volunteer at the Zoo. But I have visited the zoo at least once a week for forty years, and have never seen an animal that did not appear to be very well cared for.
The Philadelphia Zoo is accredited by the AZA, which means all the exhibits meet current AZA standards for size and type of exhibit for each animal.

@awesomeH2O The American crocodiles all died (of old age).

@ZooVisitorMM Oh, that's a shame. How old was Harry?

Yes, the Zoo has two hippos. I have uploaded several videos of them so far, and will upload more soon.
And, yes, I usually visit the Bronx Zoo twice a year, but have not visited yet this year.
Jungle World is my favorite exhibit there.

So the answer to your question is, No, what you have heard is not true.
I hope you will enjoy your visit to the Zoo in August - and let me know what you think about the Zoo after you see it yourself.
