a bit dumb idea... Imagine crashing with a full size digital camera inside your helmet... uft... I have those mini hd cameras, investing in something that will help determine false accident claims and stupid car drivers will think twice about road rage
Wooow don't you have a bigger camera to fit in there? There's many mini cameras you can use today, why will you block your whole front and risk to get a ticket with that thing?
I dont understand why you would want to put something right in front of your face, partially blocking your vision just for the sake of a video. Madness.
Nice. I love home-made anything. I once turned an Atari controller into a...piece of smoking paraphernalia. Also, has anyone told you you look a bit like Michael Ian Black?
Keep up the good work...your videos are very entertaining and you seem like a very lighthearted, fun person. Don't mind some of these hateful people on here who live their lives to bring down others.
you're nuts! On second thoughts - great idea! Maybe you could adapt the mount to fit a pair of BINOCULARS or a TELESCOPE, so you can see God more clearly when the whole lot goes through your skull in an accident. Also, the camera is a bit small. You should consider some Canon or Nikon SLR with a 400mm lens. God in HD! The pictures would be worth a fortune. Just don't get blood splatter on the lens.
people who think if you drill a hole into a helmet is stupid because the helmet can take one big crash once and if you drill into it it making you more vunrable to dieing because the hole into the helmet will litraly split like an egg because you have drilled into the palstics and fiber and all that stuff helps you so the holes will split the helmet in half soon as you hit your head.
It makes it no more unsafe than an open face helmet so its a risk some people are willing to take. I still think a full face helmet with a small hole drilled in it is more safe than an open face helmet.
I hit the ground at 60 miles per hour and busted my visor off. The hole didn't make a difference.
For a full time college student and full time employee for a corporation, I really don't have the money to buy a helmet camera kit that costs over $200. This is a cheap alternative that works well. Bottom line, it works for me. If it doesn't work for you, then go get yourself the Go Pro setup.
hey man i wasn't tryin to be a dick or anything. I was actually tryin to set somthin like set up myself until i ran across the new Go Pro wide that i bought.
but if you ever get the chance these camera's are awesome with endless mounting option.
@Skel3tor1 i guess you can use a POV camera now, they are very cheap, can be waterproof and u just wrap it across ur helmet, in the UK they cost around £90, so 65USD, not too bad :)
@R6demon08 are you able to record your voice as well on the Go pro?? 'cause I seen it in a lot of videos but you can't vlog 'cause the camera is outside your helmet and you can't talk...or does it come with a mic or something like that??? (sorry my ignorance lol)
Nice video buddy. Dont worry about all the negative comments from folks. I have received at least 60+ of em, but people don't really understand and just leave hate. Look into blacking out the front areas as they give you a wicked reflection off of the shield when recording. Black sharpie to the sliver areas clear it up NP.
These look like Talladega Nights, wen Will Ferrell sale the windshield to a sponsor and place a large sticker across hes windshield, don't mind to insult you but that look retarder
Yes really! You should NEVER drill into a helmet that includes fiberglass, carbon fiber, or kevlar in its construction. These can withstand ONE impact only and should then be considered trash, and your hole counts towards that. Yes, injection molded thermoplastic shells can be drilled, BUT you are rigidly mounting a hard object, and even light plastic aero-attachments are specifically made to break off on impact! Your ignorance may cost lives.
Why not just modify an old helmet? Find the exact top-center of helmet and drill a hole to insert a screw fitting the tripod mount of most cameras. One could then use nearly any compact handycam.
A small piece of clear plastic taped to the front of the camera will protect the lens. To reduce wind noise, either cover the mic with foam rubber or use a remote mic inside the helmet.
Actually, a small hole wouldn't even hurt a newer helmet all that much and could be plugged when not filming.
Really, DumbDuck44? Take a look at your helmet and count how many holes between the rivits for the neck straps, vents for air, snaps or mounts for the face shield, and so on. I've seen helmets with as many as twelve holes for various attachments. So clearly one more small, roughly 1/4 inch, hole is not going to decrease the crash effectiveness of a helmet all that much, if at all.
Tripod mounts on cameras accept a 1/4-20 screw, with the length of that screw varying by application.
all helmet companies warn you to NOT put a camera in your helmet! you crash the camera can easily cause damage. HJC did a small article on it on their website, dont be cheap buy an actual helmet cam or build one out of a x10 camera. be safe not stupid. just because a camera is light doesnt mean it wont cause damage when you crash.
The camera set up he has is safe. I have the same set up. I thought it was dangerous too until I tried it and its very safe. What many do not understand is the camera is ultra lightweight you can hold it with your pinky finger. Also it does not obstruct your vision. Skel3tor1 is correct in what he is saying..I have tested it. Also I have an extra cam if you guys want to buy one its on ebay and also see the vid of it by clicking my name.
You say you've tested it. So you've crashed and the camera didn't come loose or touch any part of your face? Because that's what "safe" and "tested" would mean in relation to a helmet.
Skel3tor1: I would recommend measuring the thickness of the polystyrene and padding in the helmet, and making sure you have at least that much clearance between your nose and the camera. And even then, that's assuming your head doesn't tilt up at all on impact.
dumb! i won't feel bad for you if you die doing that.
i've got a buddy who texts (SMS) while riding with the phone tucked into the tank bra. i say the same thing to him, man. it's just stupid. anyone holding their cameras to film or putting cameras inside their helmets should just get frame sliders and attach the camera(s) to them. wireless mic it if you must speak and ride.
don't want to risk my camera falling off. when your on a motorcycle theres not really any bumps, riding on dirt, theres bumps and the camera would probably fall off.
I can see perfectly fine over the camera. It doesn't impede my ability to functionwhile on a motorcycle. Plus, I'd think with 30+ videos that I kinda prove it works just fine. Thank you for your comment though.

Hey man, was just wondering, if you do really get into an accident:
1. If the camera gets knocked around, will it be recorded or do you HAVE to press the record button to save the clips?
2. Wouldn't the camera come off in an accident and fly everywhere in the helmet?(Kind of dangerous T,T)
Thanks for sharing this video!
