@BorderCityBandit I'am a fellow Texan and I agree and love our state and our history. Texas had some of the best regiments and brigades during the Civil War like Hoods Texas Brigade who fought in all major battles except Chancellorsville and possibly saved Robert E. Lee's life at the Wilderness in the Widdow Tapp Field. They were considered to be the Army of Northern Virginia's shock troops.
Lets not put 21st Century ideals to 19th Century ideals, (Bless the south ) the people who made the real America prior to our second revolution Southerns fought to keep it.
OKAY. I think I may actually be the first person to say this... but in this situation I think BOTH sides were in the wrong. Sherman's march to the sea and the following massacres was highly uncalled for and inhumane on the "Yankee" side, but neither is slavery or dividing up nations and families by seccession when over two thirds of the general populace didn't own a slave. Both sides did terrible wrong, but that's in the past. Is it not the purpose of history to learn from mistakes? Geez.
fuck the so called boston patriots. the war was being lost until the british came across the presbyterian scots - irish mountainmen who turned the war by fighting a gorrila war that they had learned from fighting the indian tribes for so many years.

BY THE WAY STONEWALL JaCKSON WAS killed by his own man when he was doing battle stratigies at night when the camp guards thought he was a union soldier so STONEWALL WAS NOT KILLED BY THE UNION
GUESS WHAT THE UNION WAS BLUE OR THE NORTH AGAINST SLAVERY AND THE GREY, CONFEDERATES, THE SOUTH WANTED SLAVERY TO CONTINUE DONT FORGETT MANAFEST DESTINY
@TThorne931 The Union had Helmira(Elmira, New York) and Camp Douglas in Chicago, aka 80 acres of Hell. Here's a little piece of truth, more Confederate POWs died in captivity than their Union counterparts. Sec. of War Stanton purposely put into policy the withholding of adequate winter clothing and food supplies. The South was under blockade and couldn't even feed itself, much less Union POWs. The North wasn't even dented financially, but in fact prospered during the war.
@Unreconstructed8285 Detention centers for Terrorist Extreamists are not police camps . The Southern POWs deserved to be slaughtered en masse apon capture for their treason and terrorism . And why should Criminals Get any provisions besides their lives . And the South should have suffered to Feed Soldiers of the Patriotic Army of America who nobely strode against the Facist Southenr Empire .
the yankees like to brag, that they won the war, well what they dont understand ,is that you never lose when ya stand up for what you believe in,Yankees look at how tyrannical our govt is now, where the hell do ya think that started,it started in 1865,when you supposedly won the damn war,I hate our federal govt with a passion, even when they fuck yALL over, the question is are we brothers, well my answer to that is .My brothers are from below the mason dixon line, damn vodka helps reveal truth
Understand that I have much to lose .... my army pension - but I WOULD after 20 years in the army stand the line against tne the current government. I would… just as my ancestors did long ago ….. I would stand the line and give the federals hell. I would. They better join my side.
@ViccardXViccc yes the boers...the language of the boer is similiar to dutch .? could you understand the language and converse in modern dutch ?moving on a bit more my point was what is the system for the writing of history in holland Viccard ..i know history is written by the winners of wars .as is legislation also .. you may be able to tell me what books to read of dutch settlement in south africa also its not for formal qualification but for hobby/pleasure moving 4ward to the boer war
@freebuoy Yes, it's quite the same. They speak more 17th century-Dutch, but i could understand them I think.
Our history books are wrote in a objective way: they tell the facts and maybe give a opinion, but always in the favour for those who are right.
I don't really know books about the Boers, it's not really my interest
By the way, the Boer wars were fought between the Boers and the British, without any black nation fighting in that war. Strange, because it was their land
@ViccardXViccc id like to know about the boers settlement of s/africa .obviously the dutch had a strong naval history .can you suggest any good books ? would you understand modern afrikans as a language .to converse in dutch ..my point was i believe history and legislation is bias towards the victors of war ..the powerful etc how do the dutch differ in that context ? there are honest people everywhere but usually its the corrupt who sescede ordinairy people like me are happy with what we have
@freebuoy The Dutch government didn't ruled the colonies. At the end of the 18th centrury, the colonies didn't listen to the Dutch at all. But before that, they most of the time ruled themself. They formed little (white) republics. They had good firearms and fought with a kind Guerilla tactics, but also battles
Most of the pictures show him with his new uniform on. Jeb Stuart gave him that one. "Old Tom Fool as he was known dressed in a faded unifrom jacket and had an ancient hat. Stonewall was one hard man. As a person he was not to many's taste, he was freaky, in a lot of ways. A soldier, he was one of the best. I don't there are any real Yankees anymore, they all died. I'm not a liberal. If you drive a foreign vehicle buy American.
Start at home, Never hire illegal aliens Take care of Americans
Great video! It is unfortunate that history has been rewritten by those who have an agenda, and students never learn the truth about the history of their own country.
@TThorne931 I'm an honorably discharged veteran, and missed Desert Storm only by a month, so I don't hate the men in uniform, Stonewall Jackson was wrong to think that black slavery was from God, and I would have fought against him for that reason. But he cared enough about blacks that he was willing to break Virgina law to personally teach black children.Even good men can be very wrong at times, history itself is witness to this strange fact. He was respected by both north and south armies,,,,.
@123itisfree As you even Care for a Traitor this man is equal to benedict arnold for committing treason against the Stars and stripes and raising a army of Terrorists to fight us jackson was to the CSA what the 9/11 hijackers were to al-quda . Also i see you don't support that we should have wiped the Southern Armies from earth with mass execution of all CSA veterans this saddens me. He was an evil man fighting for an evil empire to Kill American Soldiers
@TThorne931 The confederacy was invaded by us troops against Amereicans who did not wish to lick the tyrant's boot. We may have lost, but we won Reconstruction and still retain our culture. There is nothing you yankee scum can do about that.
@123itisfree stonewall was killed by a confederate soldier not by the union. one night he was doing night war stratigies when the camp guards thought that the men where union soldiers so they opened fire and hit stonewall in the shoulder. he later died in the hospital of infection. my conclusion he was NOT KILLED BY THE UNION, BLUES, NORTH, YANKEES, WHAT EVER YOU CALL THEM
@ilovemybunnyfreckles This man was slain by a Union soldier Confederates were too inbreed to shoulder a weapon. The soldier who slayed the Terrorist Jackson is a Unionist hero fighting against his own traitours homeland
@TThorne931 You mean women and childfren. The only war criminals that were in the Civil War wore the coat of blue, not the gray. Now piss off you weak ass troll as you can't even do that correctlty. Yankee scum.
@Unreconstructed8285 No All southerners were Confederate Volunteer infantry even the tinest baby could be hiding one of the CS IED they used against the Holy Crusaders of Sherman . All CS committed Treason and Treason is punishible by death
@TThorne931 The "Holy Crusaders of Sherman" were in reality called bummers and they were nothing more than rapists and thieves who stole from poor non-slaveholding southerners as well as the rich. An army of Huns and to be loyal to a country that has imposed poverty on another section of the country through irrevocable destruction(which still affects the region today) must not be expected to be given. Also, you Massachussets motherfucker, there were no IEDS in the 1860's, dumb ass.
@Unreconstructed8285 All southern Borns were slavers Who committed Treason Against the United States . Maybe if you didn't want such devasation from crusaders you should not have committed Treason Against the United States . Not our fault your people aren't trying to be rich or productive . And yes there were the CS deployed them around andersonville to slow the crusades pace we just forced CS POW to march before our armies and died on your bombs
@TThorne931 Yes, I know war criminals. You just admitted it. The South is poor because the North made it poor,. Yankee motherfuckers. Do you not know that the patriots of the Revolution were also called traitors and the first slave came to Boston in 1620? Typical hypocrites. You mean mines, then called torpedoes, which are an accepted part of warfare. Marching POWS over them is not, however, an accepted part of warfare. And you said they were hidden on babies, you leftist loon.
@Unreconstructed8285 No The war criminals were southern citizens the Women and Chidlren of the KKK armies . The patrios were always the New Englanders . and no we freed more and more slaves then every showed over . No you idiots placed landmines and sent assasins against our officers very shameful way to wage war . And your people weren't prisoners of War as they weren't uniformed Soldiers .
@TThorne931 There was no KKK yet in the South as you yankee scum produced the KKK with your corrupt Reconstruction much later on, which we won by the way. There wasn't a policy to conscript women and very young children so they were noncombatants. As for a uniform there was gray and butternut and the confederate soldiers were recognized as soldiers. Your side used that as an excuse for the murder of soldiers just like Malmedy in WW2. When in History was an assasin used by CSA?
@Unreconstructed8285 You mean your warriors established as slaving raiders To steal citizens under the States right voilating act known as the Fugative Slave act . So We had women auxilary in the second world war no draft on them still combatantns bearing any southern alligance made you a traitor . And no those were the Uniforms of an illegal rebellion and not a country Our side taught them what a Army could write with bayonet and shot . And John Wilkes booth Was a Southern Assasin
@TThorne931 I knew that was going to happen. John Wilkes Boothe was an unbalanced northern actor (albeit southern sympathies) who in no way was employed by the then abolished Confederate government. Women in WW2 as auxiliaries are not the same as civilian women in the South so if that is a retort to my comment then it is a very poor one. And if our rebellion was illegal then so was the rebellion of 1776. If you New England scum had such an affinity for slaves then why did you import so many?
@Unreconstructed8285 He was a Filthy Southern Soldier Not any form of Northern Son Even When Goverments die their nazi storm troopers live on . No they were extactly the same why did southern homes fly the Battle flag if they weren't soldiers or send men off to fight the family should be slain and crucified . And Our rebellion was highly illegal we just smacked the shit out of the Redcoats in boston with out Northern Fury . And we freeded them twenty years after the revolution unlike you
@TThorne931 No, he was from Baltimore originally and he did not serve in the Confederate army. The only reason the Revolutionary War was won was because of France"s intervention and the battle to determine sovereignty was in Yorktown, Virginia( a southern state) by a southerner who was named George Washington. The war began in New England, but it was won in the South. If you can counter the argument other than spewing forth a plethora of yankee lies and propaganda, please by all means do.
@Unreconstructed8285 So a southern Assasin . no the War was won by who drove out the Facist britt and infeiror southern Soldier . George Washington was a Coward who should have been hung for treason
@TThorne931 And you wish to back this up with true evidence? A large percentage of southerners fought for the Patriot cause uincluding my direct ancestor. He fought under the "Swampfox" Francis Marion in South Carolina where my family resided at the time. George Washington won the war and was the nation's first president . You are nothing more than lying New England, yankee scum and fucking stupid to boot.
@Unreconstructed8285 John Adams won the war Washington was his servent . Hancock was the First president not GW the faggot . New England is the superior region of America anyone from anywhere else opinons mean less then dirt . Francis marion should have been shot for fighting for the south
You can't even spell correctly and you expect people to take you seriously. It's as if I'm corresponding with a 5th grader. Also, you call for the slaying of women and children and you call yourself a true christian. I guess that's that New England hypocrisy coming out again.
@TThorne931 You mean women and childfren. The only war criminals that were in the Civil War wore the coat of blue, not the gray. Now piss off you weak ass troll as you can't even do that correctlty. Yankee scum.
LOL. You sure do love the words "dumb fuck", PPE. The fact that you admit to being one amazes me though. You forget that slavery was in ALL of the United States in 1776. You also forget that as long as those Morrill Tariff monies were coming into the Federal coffers, the US government wasn't going to do a thing to disturb the flow of cotton exports. The more you talk and argue your point, the more you communicate the fact that YOU are a "dumb fuck".
true statements, but let's not forget that cities like Boston and New York City were the ones that received the slaves too, then they sent them down here...you're absolutely right though, both the north and the south got their hands dirty with slavery
A most stirring song - anywhere, anytime, anyplace .. & especially, in this particular instance, played in a magnificent 'period-piece' style, by the 2nd South Carolina String Band .. a wonderful band of modern-day musicians. And Congrats, convitcon1987 .. you have put together, sir, a superb montage of graphics and still-shots, which really do lend significant 'added-value' to this most-impressive posting.
Tell y'all what--but mostly to you PowerPlantEngineer. Space constraints will not allow me to fully express history. All I can say is read everything you can get your hands on concerning that era. Pay attention to the wording of the Emancipation Proclamation and its division of areas affected, and you'll see how much of a two-bit weasel Abraham Lincoln was. Sic Semper Tyrannis! Lee freed all his slaves before the war. Grant's wife did not until that amendment came into effect. Read, read, read.
Lee raped his slave, stripped his female slaves naked then had them whipped -- stood by screaming to hit her harder.
I know the wording of the EP dumb fuck.
Space Contrant this dumb fuck - Lee Davis and the others were slave raping child selling scum. Lincoln kicked their ass and you lunatic have been crying ever since.
Yes dumb fuck -- slavery has been aroundn a long time -- like child molesting and murder. So the FUCK what.
No other fucking nation on EARTH was based on slavery - EXCEPT the fucking Confederacy dumb fuck. Other nations allowed slavery for a time -- the fucking Confederacy was BASED on it.
The fucking lunatics BRAGGED they were the first nation on earth to be FOUNDED on the "great moral truth" that "Almighty God" ordained the white race to enslave the black race.
Cris dumb fuck -- several slave states stayed with the Union dumb fuck -- the people there knew what scum sucking pigs the Confederates were. And those states all got rid of slavery as soon as the slave rapers were kicked out of power idiot.
slavery was also going on in some the northern sates that fought for the north also slavery is still going on in africa today...if you really think that war was over slavery and not money then your just living in a daydream...
NC dumb fuck -- 25% of the Union soldiers came from slave states -- they knew what scum the Confederates were. They hated the slave raping bastards of the Confederacy - and fought against it.
The Confederacy was the ONLY nation in world history to actually be FOUNDED on "the great moral truth" that God ordained white men to enslave blacks.
Learn some real history dumb fuck -- how Nazi like the South was.
ok so why dont you take your dumb ass over to africa and free some slaves that are being held in bondage...you talk the talk but your actions prove nothing...so its ok for the africans to sell the slaves to the nothern slave traders...who in turned sold to some southerns...so the only guilty party was the south...read an unbiased history book you stupid fuck and hop on the bus bitch and go to africa and free some slaves today....didnt think so
Wasn't just whites that enslaved blacks PowerPlantEngineer, Blacks enslaved blacks also, and the north enslaved the Irish in factories and plants. Slavery has plagued the human species sence day one.
kill -- dumb fuck -- the South give up slavery? You fucking idiot, read their statements at the time . Slavery was from God dumb fuck -- they went to war you idiot cause Lincoln wanted to stop the SPREAD of slavery.
They said at the time they would KILL the slaves dumb fuck if they had to free them. Learn some real history.
the south fought for there indepence and the north fought to keep the unoin together then war cahnges things union started to fight do end slavery but the south was fighting for there independence learn ur histroy first
And thus, the quote from the movie of Gods and Generals when the character Jackson is talking to his First Brigade, "In the Army of the Shenandoah, you were the first brigade, in the Army of the Potomac, you were the First Brigade, in the Second Corp of this army (Army of Northern Virginia), you are the First Brigade.........." During his tenure as a Corp commander, the most troops Jackson held under his command at one time was approximately 24,000 troops, but he mainly commanded 22,000.
And technically, when Jackson was in the valley with 17,000 troops, that was considered an army. In fact, the first and second corp of the army of Northern Virginia were considered armies by themselves. "The army of the Shenandoah and the confederate Army of the Potomac combined and was renamed the Army of Northern Virginia on March 14, 1862, with Beauregard's 'original' army eventually becoming the First Corps, Army of Northern Virginia."
General Patrick Cleburne was born March 17, 1828 in a Bridgepark cottage on the River Bride in Ireland. He became one of two foreign born officers to become a Major General. General Cleburne was known as a great combat officer, sometimes being compared to General Nathan Bedford Forrest. He trained his soldiers personally and made sure their needs were met. He was sometimes called the "Stonewall Jackson of the West." He died 11/10/1864.
He should have been given the army command of Tennessee.
"He [Cleburne] should have been given the army command of Tennessee."
I could not agree more. Jackson and the whole ANV had a superb mid-level officer corps (colonels, lt. cols., and majors) that were never available in the west. That Cleburne was able to accomplish as much as he did, in the face of extended lines of supply, unforgiving terrain, transportation and communication challenges, as well as a government in Richmond that never fully appreciated the situation, is remarkable.
One British officer, who teaches strategy in a great European college, told Surgeon McGuire that he used this campaign as a model of strategy and tactics, dwelling upon it for several months in his lectures; that it was taught in the schools of Germany, and that Von Moltke, the great strategist, declared it was without a rival in the world's history.
Jackson, "Old Jack", "Old Blue Light", in my eyes was a brillant man. A West Point Grad, Instructor at Virginia Military Institute, was promoted birgadier general after distinguished service at First Manassas. Where Gen Banard E.Bee gave the sobriquet "Stonewall" to him & his brigade. He waged a magnificent campaign, on several occations against three Federal armies that were threating Richmond. Jackson, it is said was not at his best unless, he was in independant command.
Lee himself, admitted to a close friend, in 1869 or 70 I believe the year was, "Not long before his death, in a long conversation with his cousin Cassius Lee of Alexandria, the General said that if Jackson had been at Gettysburg he would have held the heights that Ewell seized. And one afternoon, when he was out riding with Professor White, he said quietly, "If I had had Stonewall Jackson with me, so far as man can see, I should have won the battle of Gettysburg."' Lee's biography.
Stonewall Jackson, was one of the most brilliant and enigmatic figures not only of the Civil War, but of all military history as well. His life was cut short after he was
felled by his own men ,during the battle Chancellorsville,
Thomas Jonathan Jackson, passed away on May 10, 1863.
felled by his own men ,during the battle Chancellorsville.."
Technically, it was after the battle. He and his staff were mistaken for mounted Federals by Confederate pickets after sundown.
As to his "brilliance", we could argue that one for a while. His assault on Hooker's army at C'ville was well planned and executed- but much of his career was built upon successes in the Valley where he had the logistic advantage of the turnpike to maintain interior lines.
Yes , I suppose we would have a good argument when It is about Jackson. : ) Not only do I admire this man, but have studied his life and tactic for years. There is so much that is not printed in books on his life and skills. I have the inside scoop about him, from my brother-in-law as well as my nephew , who are graduates of VMI-Virginia Military Institute. They both studied Jackson and admired his battle tactics. He was one of those men who marched to a different drummer, as they say.
What you need to remember is that most of his commands were (roughly speaking) at the brigade & division level. His tenure as a corps commander was relatively brief- and he never had army command. Folding when commanding at army level (Can you say "Hood"?) is not unheard of for those who did well previously.
Myself? I think Cleburne was THE superior division commander of the South. And I think, had he not been killed at Shiloh, Albert Sidney Johnston would have "out-Lee-ed Lee".
Pat Cleburne, I agree was a surperb combat officer on every battlefield in the Western army. I also think your reasoning is valid about Albert Sidney Johnson. Cleburne, was killed not to far from here. I have been to Franklin, where he died. Carnton Plantation, the house where Cleburne, along with three other generals were taken after they were mortally wounded, sits on the edge of the Battlefield. Hood, made a huge mistake in ordering that attack. One of the bloodiest battles of the war! Sad.
To this one, again, I have to disagree, slightly. Cleburne is my second favorite general throughout the war. Jackson was placed in command of the second Corp permanently, or when made into a command, October of 1862. Before that, he was placed as a wing commander at times, before the second corp became official. Now, as a second corp commander, Jackson did no wrong. But as a wing commander before officially becoming a second corp, he did ill (during the seven day's battle).

But as a wing commander before officially becoming a second corp, he did ill (during the seven day's battle).
Jackson became better as the war progressed, as a tactician. His problem in the seven day's battle was simply, he had too many troops. Jackson was best at quick long marches, flank attacks. Once it was broken down into a Corp, Jackson was given command of approximately 22,000 troops. During the seven day's battle, he had 1/3 of the army. After the seven day's, he had 22,000, and Longstreet had around 28,000 plus. Thus Jackson was able to march more speedily. But also, he had very little sleep.
For one, Jackson was shot by his own during during the battle of Chancellorsville, not after. He was felled after the first day's fighting, but the battle still waged, with Stuart taking command of the second Corp after Jackson and helping lead them to victory. Jackson may have had an advantage logistically, but he had 17,000 troops at the most during the campaign against 80,000 total troops, whose soul mission was to find and defeat Stonewall Jackson by Lincoln himself.
It is told by Dr. McGuire, the chief surgeon of Jackson's command, that with swelling heart he had "heard some of the first soldiers and military students of England declare that within the past two hundred years the English speaking race has produced but five soldiers of the first rank--Marlborough, Washington, Wellington, Lee and Stonewall Jackson, and that this campaign in the valley was superior to either of those made by Napoleon in Italy."

I just felt to reply because the Confederacy was right and you seem
to ignore that fact. Slavery was also used by the Union till 1863,
2 years after the Civil War started. And the Southern states had
the right to secede,so what's wrong about that? Compare it with the
European Union. If one country decides to secede/leave the EU,isn't that
their right? Is it right to bomb the shit out of the country and burn to the ground
and terrorize their people. No.

Understand that I have much to lose .... my army pension - but I WOULD after 20 years in the army stand the line against tne the current government. I would… just as my ancestors did long ago ….. I would stand the line and give the federals hell. I would. They better join my side.

freebuoy 1 year ago
@freebuoy Don't really get your question. Do you mean the Black Southern Africans of the 'Afrikaners', the white people who where called 'Boers'
ViccardXViccc 1 year ago
@ViccardXViccc yes the boers...the language of the boer is similiar to dutch .? could you understand the language and converse in modern dutch ?moving on a bit more my point was what is the system for the writing of history in holland Viccard ..i know history is written by the winners of wars .as is legislation also .. you may be able to tell me what books to read of dutch settlement in south africa also its not for formal qualification but for hobby/pleasure moving 4ward to the boer war
freebuoy 1 year ago
@freebuoy Yes, it's quite the same. They speak more 17th century-Dutch, but i could understand them I think.
Our history books are wrote in a objective way: they tell the facts and maybe give a opinion, but always in the favour for those who are right.
I don't really know books about the Boers, it's not really my interest
By the way, the Boer wars were fought between the Boers and the British, without any black nation fighting in that war. Strange, because it was their land
ViccardXViccc 1 year ago
@ViccardXViccc id like to know about the boers settlement of s/africa .obviously the dutch had a strong naval history .can you suggest any good books ? would you understand modern afrikans as a language .to converse in dutch ..my point was i believe history and legislation is bias towards the victors of war ..the powerful etc how do the dutch differ in that context ? there are honest people everywhere but usually its the corrupt who sescede ordinairy people like me are happy with what we have
freebuoy 1 year ago
@freebuoy The Dutch government didn't ruled the colonies. At the end of the 18th centrury, the colonies didn't listen to the Dutch at all. But before that, they most of the time ruled themself. They formed little (white) republics. They had good firearms and fought with a kind Guerilla tactics, but also battles

TThorne931 6 months ago
@TThorne931 I'm an honorably discharged veteran, and missed Desert Storm only by a month, so I don't hate the men in uniform, Stonewall Jackson was wrong to think that black slavery was from God, and I would have fought against him for that reason. But he cared enough about blacks that he was willing to break Virgina law to personally teach black children.Even good men can be very wrong at times, history itself is witness to this strange fact. He was respected by both north and south armies,,,,.
123itisfree 6 months ago

Unreconstructed8285 5 months ago
@123itisfree stonewall was killed by a confederate soldier not by the union. one night he was doing night war stratigies when the camp guards thought that the men where union soldiers so they opened fire and hit stonewall in the shoulder. he later died in the hospital of infection. my conclusion he was NOT KILLED BY THE UNION, BLUES, NORTH, YANKEES, WHAT EVER YOU CALL THEM

TThorne931 4 months ago
@TThorne931 The "Holy Crusaders of Sherman" were in reality called bummers and they were nothing more than rapists and thieves who stole from poor non-slaveholding southerners as well as the rich. An army of Huns and to be loyal to a country that has imposed poverty on another section of the country through irrevocable destruction(which still affects the region today) must not be expected to be given. Also, you Massachussets motherfucker, there were no IEDS in the 1860's, dumb ass.
Unreconstructed8285 4 months ago
@Unreconstructed8285 All southern Borns were slavers Who committed Treason Against the United States . Maybe if you didn't want such devasation from crusaders you should not have committed Treason Against the United States . Not our fault your people aren't trying to be rich or productive . And yes there were the CS deployed them around andersonville to slow the crusades pace we just forced CS POW to march before our armies and died on your bombs
TThorne931 4 months ago
@TThorne931 Yes, I know war criminals. You just admitted it. The South is poor because the North made it poor,. Yankee motherfuckers. Do you not know that the patriots of the Revolution were also called traitors and the first slave came to Boston in 1620? Typical hypocrites. You mean mines, then called torpedoes, which are an accepted part of warfare. Marching POWS over them is not, however, an accepted part of warfare. And you said they were hidden on babies, you leftist loon.
Unreconstructed8285 4 months ago
@Unreconstructed8285 No The war criminals were southern citizens the Women and Chidlren of the KKK armies . The patrios were always the New Englanders . and no we freed more and more slaves then every showed over . No you idiots placed landmines and sent assasins against our officers very shameful way to wage war . And your people weren't prisoners of War as they weren't uniformed Soldiers .
TThorne931 4 months ago
@TThorne931 There was no KKK yet in the South as you yankee scum produced the KKK with your corrupt Reconstruction much later on, which we won by the way. There wasn't a policy to conscript women and very young children so they were noncombatants. As for a uniform there was gray and butternut and the confederate soldiers were recognized as soldiers. Your side used that as an excuse for the murder of soldiers just like Malmedy in WW2. When in History was an assasin used by CSA?
Unreconstructed8285 4 months ago
@Unreconstructed8285 You mean your warriors established as slaving raiders To steal citizens under the States right voilating act known as the Fugative Slave act . So We had women auxilary in the second world war no draft on them still combatantns bearing any southern alligance made you a traitor . And no those were the Uniforms of an illegal rebellion and not a country Our side taught them what a Army could write with bayonet and shot . And John Wilkes booth Was a Southern Assasin
TThorne931 4 months ago

TThorne931 4 months ago

Here Shenandoah brawls along,
There burly Blue Ridge echos strong,
To swell the Brigade's rousing song
Of Stonewall Jackson's way.
---First stanza of 1862's song of "Stonewall Jackson's Way" by John Williamson Palmer
SoBelleofTN 2 years ago
And thus, the quote from the movie of Gods and Generals when the character Jackson is talking to his First Brigade, "In the Army of the Shenandoah, you were the first brigade, in the Army of the Potomac, you were the First Brigade, in the Second Corp of this army (Army of Northern Virginia), you are the First Brigade.........." During his tenure as a Corp commander, the most troops Jackson held under his command at one time was approximately 24,000 troops, but he mainly commanded 22,000.
uclamagic2 2 years ago
And technically, when Jackson was in the valley with 17,000 troops, that was considered an army. In fact, the first and second corp of the army of Northern Virginia were considered armies by themselves. "The army of the Shenandoah and the confederate Army of the Potomac combined and was renamed the Army of Northern Virginia on March 14, 1862, with Beauregard's 'original' army eventually becoming the First Corps, Army of Northern Virginia."
The Shenandoah Army became the second corp.

He should have been given the army command of Tennessee.
uclamagic2 2 years ago
"He [Cleburne] should have been given the army command of Tennessee."
I could not agree more. Jackson and the whole ANV had a superb mid-level officer corps (colonels, lt. cols., and majors) that were never available in the west. That Cleburne was able to accomplish as much as he did, in the face of extended lines of supply, unforgiving terrain, transportation and communication challenges, as well as a government in Richmond that never fully appreciated the situation, is remarkable.
BenAliGtor 2 years ago
One British officer, who teaches strategy in a great European college, told Surgeon McGuire that he used this campaign as a model of strategy and tactics, dwelling upon it for several months in his lectures; that it was taught in the schools of Germany, and that Von Moltke, the great strategist, declared it was without a rival in the world's history.
uclamagic2 2 years ago
Jackson, "Old Jack", "Old Blue Light", in my eyes was a brillant man. A West Point Grad, Instructor at Virginia Military Institute, was promoted birgadier general after distinguished service at First Manassas. Where Gen Banard E.Bee gave the sobriquet "Stonewall" to him & his brigade. He waged a magnificent campaign, on several occations against three Federal armies that were threating Richmond. Jackson, it is said was not at his best unless, he was in independant command.
SoBelleofTN 2 years ago
Lee himself, admitted to a close friend, in 1869 or 70 I believe the year was, "Not long before his death, in a long conversation with his cousin Cassius Lee of Alexandria, the General said that if Jackson had been at Gettysburg he would have held the heights that Ewell seized. And one afternoon, when he was out riding with Professor White, he said quietly, "If I had had Stonewall Jackson with me, so far as man can see, I should have won the battle of Gettysburg."' Lee's biography.
uclamagic2 2 years ago
Stonewall Jackson, was one of the most brilliant and enigmatic figures not only of the Civil War, but of all military history as well. His life was cut short after he was
felled by his own men ,during the battle Chancellorsville,
Thomas Jonathan Jackson, passed away on May 10, 1863.
SoBelleofTN 2 years ago
"..cut short after he was
felled by his own men ,during the battle Chancellorsville.."
BenAliGtor 2 years ago
Yes , I suppose we would have a good argument when It is about Jackson. : ) Not only do I admire this man, but have studied his life and tactic for years. There is so much that is not printed in books on his life and skills. I have the inside scoop about him, from my brother-in-law as well as my nephew , who are graduates of VMI-Virginia Military Institute. They both studied Jackson and admired his battle tactics. He was one of those men who marched to a different drummer, as they say.
SoBelleofTN 2 years ago
What you need to remember is that most of his commands were (roughly speaking) at the brigade & division level. His tenure as a corps commander was relatively brief- and he never had army command. Folding when commanding at army level (Can you say "Hood"?) is not unheard of for those who did well previously.
Myself? I think Cleburne was THE superior division commander of the South. And I think, had he not been killed at Shiloh, Albert Sidney Johnston would have "out-Lee-ed Lee".
BenAliGtor 2 years ago

But also, he had very little sleep.
uclamagic2 2 years ago
For one, Jackson was shot by his own during during the battle of Chancellorsville, not after. He was felled after the first day's fighting, but the battle still waged, with Stuart taking command of the second Corp after Jackson and helping lead them to victory. Jackson may have had an advantage logistically, but he had 17,000 troops at the most during the campaign against 80,000 total troops, whose soul mission was to find and defeat Stonewall Jackson by Lincoln himself.
uclamagic2 2 years ago
It is told by Dr. McGuire, the chief surgeon of Jackson's command, that with swelling heart he had "heard some of the first soldiers and military students of England declare that within the past two hundred years the English speaking race has produced but five soldiers of the first rank--Marlborough, Washington, Wellington, Lee and Stonewall Jackson, and that this campaign in the valley was superior to either of those made by Napoleon in Italy."
