I bought this track(and some other from "Catholic Latin Classics") from I Tunes & have it in my I Pod. I'm not Catholic(am a Lutheran organist)..but I LOVE these Catholic Latin hymns. They certainly have the "spiritual substance" lacking in the "happy clappy," "feel good" praise chourses which have infected many churches.
This reminds me of my childhood with I sang in St. Barnabas children's choir. It is the prayer Hail Holy Queen sung in Latin.
May is the month dedicated to Mary the Mother Of Jesus. This prayer was sung all through the month of May.
It was expected for us to learn it in Latin which is the univerlal language of the Roman Catholic Faith. I'm happy other faith's enjoy hearing this lovely prayer sung in Latin.
I love the music although not a believer of Mary as co-mediatrix of grace. "Jesus said, I am the Way, The Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father but by me" and I believe this is absolute.
Every time I need her, she comes to me. She picks me up, holds me and tells me everything is going to be ok. I love you Mary my mother with all my heart!!
Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve! To you do we send up our sighs, mourning, and weeping in this vale of tears!
Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus! O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Appropriately, a hymn to the BVM would never be sung during the Mass unless it was a feast of the BVM. Since "O Sanctissima" is not a Mass hymn, it would be allowed only during the prayers of the Offertory, or as the recessional at the end of Mass.
@EmilyBearfan A guy in America recommended it to me recently, so I called the local Catholic Church and asked about it, but he said it was mainly for unbaptized/non Christian people and recommended me to call a local Catholic church to join them... and so I did but they didn't answer. Right now I'm having other problems in life... There's a lot of people I should call actually, to get some ideas what to do next.
This track is from a CD called " Catholic Latin Classics". The CD is BEAUTIFUL, with excellent singing, organ and orchestra. My favorite track is an Austrian version of "Tantum Ergo".
Even though I am a stubborn and sometimes thick-headed Catholic, I do my best to believe that Our Lady bestows her blessings upon whoever is in need of her aid- Christians and non-Christians alike.
@M3town33 "Prostantic" isn't a word, lol, but merely "Protestant" is. Yes, Anglican is Protestant. Any and all Christian sects outside of the Roman Catholic Church (except the Orthodox) are regarded as Protestant. The name stems from the "protesting" errs and challenges started by Martin Luther and then spread to cause thousands of others to "protest" so many of the core dogmas of Christianity to create their own Protestant sects across Europe.
Even though I see no one but my own mother as my mother, I see Mary as the Divine Mother of all. Being raised a Roman Catholic girl, I try to stay as close to Mary as possible (and no, I'm not being pompous).
this song brings the memories of my first year of orientation in Otjiwalongo Pre-novitiate of MSC sisters. it makes me cry when ever i am listening to it.

I missed out in being in church choir as a youth. I love to sing. Is it too late to try at 50?

I love this song. We never sing it at Mass, though we have a very traditional church...

@kostumeman Don't forget the eastern Catholics. They are part of the catholic church too but just not "roman."
