I agree that a five (10) string instrument is normally called a cittern. The Irish bouzouki has four (8) strings. Nicely played, by the way, and great voice.
all you'll find are versions folk and trad are built around your own version or expression of a song or tune. make it your own. if someone wants to hear AJs version they'll listen to it.
@willsgotbeer well, have you joined the Irish navy yet while you actually had to marry a lady but instead married someone else? If you have, I'd look out for a girl dressed in male clothes carrying a sword and a pistol...
Very nice. Well done. It sounds very much like the song Johnny Todd on Kevin Burke and Ged Foley's recent album In Tandem. Another sailor, Johnny Todd goes off to sea, much to his bride's dismay and it has a happy ending. Same melody, but nobody gets shot.
Always good fun to meet Aaron. He is a fantastic singer and bouzouki player and also a great teacher for bouzouki! I was on two of his workshops and it was very helpful for me!
Great stuff. If you like this, check out Old Blind Dogs. You'll love 'em.

I would love to get the lyrics as well. Despite AJ's masterful singing, there's a lot I can't understand.

Did you manage to record the two tunes they mentioned at the end of that clip? If you did, please post them.

AS a new Fiddler I just love this, want to learn it! My husband loves this as a Zouk player. Perhaps we will be able to share with others!
