responsivities. By providing the necessary input IN THE CONTEXT of affect (social emotional) reciprocity increases specific areas of regulation/tolerance with respect to what was/is formerly under-whelming or over-whelming in terms of how the child is regulating different modalities of input (thus strengthening affect sensory-motor connections). This is done (co-narrated) in the context of pleasurable (but challenging) two-way interactions which further strengthens/integrates Development.
what the hell is this woman trying to accomplish with these exercises? How in the world does falling into a bunch of balls going to help these kids? that game she is playing on her belly with the ball is a joke.
SPD is a scam - formulated by therapists to generate revenue.
@jrowens2004 Thats a great question! SI is supposed to look like play because that is a child's main venue for learning. Many kids with SPD have problems with touch input-their brain is not interpreting information from that sense like a typical child's would. Providing the child with games that provide intense input (such as in a ball pit) allows the brain to better interpret and integrate that sense. Its a pretty fascinating subject. I've seen results (in myself & others) with this approach.
@jrowens2004 You Sir/Madam are not educated. These are not "exercises." Indeed, you can view them as frivolous exercises on the surface. However, what is being addressed (beneath the surface)from an occupational and more significantly from a Developmental perspective is affect guided, reciprocal co-regulated social interactions in the context of the individual child's processing challenges. These can be vestibular, proprioceptive, tactile, visual-spatial, olfactory etc. Quite typically mixed

Are children with autism capable of manipulating other people? Its a common comment I heard from other people.
