I think Bill's work is amazing. anyone know where to get posters or prints of his? unfortunately he only seems to sell stuff at $500 a go. they're worth it of course, but I cant afford those prices!
Hey WeGotHeat - There's always lots of stuff to be found on Ebay. And when Bill does conventions, he'll do an original piece for you for anywhere from $100 - $500, as you mentioned...but for $500 he'll give you an amazing piece of art, I'm sure!
Zavaliikataa, you're obviously extremely ignorant. Bill Sienkiewicz is one of the most influential and highly regarded comic artists of the last quarter century.
huhgrysparrow - This art wasn't done for free. Somehow had commissioned Bill for the Elektra piece and had likely paid ahead of his doing it...then came by later when it was almost done to have BIll finish it up for him.
1000 bux to anyone who uploads a video of David Mack doing this at a con! Oh wait that will never happen cuz he can only do light box tracings HAHAHAHAHAHA*
I have a friend who paid Bill $400 for an Elektra sketch over a year ago and still has not received anything. He bought it at Wizard World Texas 2006, at WWTX 2007 Bill lied 2 days in a row with different stories on where it was. He skipped the 3rd day where he guaranteed it would be there. He's a flake. I still love his art, an amazing artist.
Sorry to hear that. I've heard other stories like that, about other artists, as well. I guess sometimes you've gotta be lucky...don't know. It sucks, though to be burnt by someone that you're a fan of. I'm still waiting on two drawings, one from a year ago, both by the same artist (who shall remain nameless). Gotta just have faith that they'll come through...eventually.
Yeah, I just feel bad for the friend. I am sure it will all be forgetton when he finally gets the art, which I am sure he will. No one said they have to be totally reliable to be amazing artists, and Bill certainly is that.
I don't think Bill (or the other artists) are tying to rip the fans off, but sometimes they get in over their heads with commissions and lose track of what they owe. Bill has an agent (David Spurlock), so maybe your friend can talk to him about it.
Do you know what original art from most big comics artists from 50 years ago would be worth today? Lots. Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Neal Adams... thousands of dollars for their original pieces. But ya know what, they are just "funny books" so I guess you are right. No way its an actual art form or anything.

Basquiat sells in the millions. Bill slaps some paint on a board and it sells for a few thousand at best. David Choe does the same and it sells 5 figures. Why the hell would the art world put any value on anelektra sketch?
And no it won't be worth shit in 50 years. Comic book interest is waning and they probably won't even be around in 50 years. Whether it's an artform or not, whatever that means, is beside the point. little doodles of superheroes fighting will never have much value.
@msa1985 your obviously a dumbass for thing that comics are waning and that "they wont be worth shit in 50 years". you know, comics interest isn't waning. and I dont care if you reply back, I say whatever the HELL I wanna say!
Neal and Marshall's Batman and Bill's Moon Knight. Oh man o man....I was floored as a kid and still am.

Thank you very much for uploading this. Bill Sienkiewicz is a legend. I can't wait to see what he does with his Stray Toasters movie adaptation.

Well then so are thousands of other people who pay people for commission artwork at cons. What exactly would you have done differently.

OK then they are..
I sure as hell wouldn't have given him money for something he didnt already draw.
And while we're on the subject..why the hell would you pay these people anything? Their art won't be worth a dime. They're comic artists.
msa1985 4 years ago
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. I recently resold a drawing I paid $40 for for nearly $500.
Lots of comic artists art sells very well. If you arent a fan you just don't get it I guess.
