Jesus commanded His disciples to obey the Scribes and Pharisees, but not to be like them. Yet, when they rebuked Jesus for allowing His disciples to pick grain on the Sabbath, He did not make His disciples stop. They wouldn't have starved. There was no OT command or example to pick grain on the Sabbath. It was not necessarily implied. The Scriptures were silent about picking grain on the Sabbath. Jesus used silence differently than you do.
Holy smoke man! 2 Tim 3: says that Timothy was raised up on those scriptures. What scriptures? The New Testament? Absolutely not! It wasn't compiled nor written yet! The Hebrew scriptures and the Greek Septuagint. Both of which Paul also had access to. That's the scriptures that were able to "give instruction." The New Testament merely consisted of some letters that went around to churches in that day. Do you think that Paul considered his letter scripture? I'm not so sure. The OT is usable!
"the strings they are referring to are from your heart" that is a dumb argument. 2 Tim 3:16 does not prove your point, in fact it disproved it. If all scripture is inspired by God, that means Old Testament too, so use your instruments!
This is arguing from silence... Nothing in the New Testament condemns musical instruments & just because it isn't in the word doesn't mean they weren't used...
@nini200777 Musical instruments are not authorized in New Testament worship. Please do not as so many say" I go by ( worship according to) the NT and the OT because you probably dont sacrfice a dove or burn a lamb without defects on an altar.
19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Early Christians sang Psalms from the old testament, and they were always sung with music. We are called in the NT to sing psalms - therefore musical Instruments are good. to praise GOD.
Many times in the New Testament it says to praise the Lord with psalms and hymns. James 5:13, Col. 3:16, Eph. 5:19 The Greek for psalms is psallo number 5567 in strong's Greek/Hebrew. Which means to play on a stringed instrument ( celebrate the devine worship with music and accompanying odes) Look also at Greek psalmos number. 5568 accompanied with the harp or other instrument. Also, in Revelations 5:8, 15:2 it talks about the harps of God.
The Music God Wants In His Church ??? God want genuine harts that are full of love for Him and others. One of the ways expressing that is trough music. If one genuinely obeys 2 most important commands this question becomes not important.
@wingmead Prove it 1 Thes 5:21 what is that joyful noise get out of the OT & apply the new. Even that joyful noise you speak of in context says SING PS 66:1-3. The Script u quote Ps 100:1 don't stop there go on IN CONTEXT the next verse says what SING, I think u get the point. The OT 4 ur learng Rom 15:4 u must rightly divide the Word of Truth 2 Tim 2:15
Sing and make melody to the Lord WITH ALL YOUR HEART - Norm why don't you take a course in Greek and Hebrew and then you can quit MISINTERPRETING scripture, as well as cease your FALSE TEACHING.
So let me get this right...After over 1000 years of God telling us how to worhship him in the OT...He is changing his mind now...That has to be a first...
@turbletts He changed the covn't Heb 8:7-9 so yes aft all those yrs he has made a better covn't w/better promises. The OT was agnst us both Jew/Gent Col 2:13-15. Agnst Jew it reveald sin, brought death no sins 4givn. Agnst Gent they were not included, that is why we have the breaking down middle wall partitn (OT) which sep Jew/Gent Eph 2:13-15. So u c it is not a 1st, that is y we in the c of Christ study, & kno how 2 rightly div word of truth 2 Tim 2:15.
It doesn't say to have a pa system, or air conditions, pews, or song books...Geeezeee...I have never heard on Church of Christ person ever talk about what wonderful things God has done in their lives...Worship is not sitting and listening to someone preach...Worshiping is getting on your knees and praying and praising God.
"Turbletts", i agree w/ instrumental music underneath the old law.....but however that law waz "nailed to the cross", the doing away w/ the old law put in force the new law or covenant doing away w/ instrumental music being allowed in the New Testament Church
Psalms 150 mentions all different types of instruments, and says anything that has breath let it Praise the Lord...This is talking about praising and worshiping God...Jesuse didn't pray to himself...He worshiped God, God is the Alpha and Omega..Beginning and the end...So even though after Christ we come into the new testement, we still worship the same God as in the old testement...But now thru Christ we enter heaven...So playing a musical instrument is worshiping God...The way he tole us to...
your Col 3:17 reference shows that God is not with you then because he didn't give you authority to use technology, according to your words. Then the caller shouldn't be driving because it isn't in the Bible
Teaching aids are authorized by Jesus using children as visual aids for his lesson on humility and innocence (Matt. 19:13, 14), the use of the fig tree as an object lesson (Matt. 21:19), etc. Examples of visual aids being used by biblical preachers can be found throughout the Bible. The use of teaching aids does not change the teaching - it is still just the word of God (2 Tim. 4:2). The addition of instruments changes the act of worship into something else - it is no longer just singing.
That's your opinion that it changes the worship, some could say the same about a microphone or a pitch pipe. The apostles were always on the go and Jesus told them what to bring is why they didn't have guitars or were in prison. It seems to me to insult the spirit of grace to be so legalistic. I mean do you think ALL Christian music is a sin?
Dude..Ya'll are to judgmental.Does the bible say we're aloud to have peanut butter? Nope..Woops. Ya'll better stop doing it..Does the bible say your aloud to make youtube videos? Woopsy..you messed up again..or, as you Church of Christ goers like to say, it doesn't give you the AUTHORITY to do it..btw, we're saved by Grace..and baptism through the HOLY SPIRIT! Water is just doing good works and showing obedience to God..so it recommended. Oh, and I'm a 14 year old Christian who loves tobyMac! ha
allowed to have peanut butter, aloud to make youtube videos. these are not things worshiping God. God did not list every food to eat and the Lord did say to go and preach the word so if you preach the word through youtube videos then that is used as a means to do that but making videos is not worship. there is one baptism (Eph. 4:5) and it is not the baptism of the Holy Spirit. people claim that the spirit dwells withing them take (Eph. 4:6) do you think the Father literally dwells in you also?
Yes, I see all the effort you are making to get the gospel to a lost and dying world. I checked the video content of your page and found nothing about the gospel of Christ.
Through my efforts, and others like me, people are seeing the difference between man-made doctrines, that cannot save, and the pure doctrine of Jesus Christ, God's power of salvation (Rom. 16:16).
This is part of your problem, Norm. You have absolutely no idea what I do each day for the Lord- none -and yet you assume you do by doing a lazy, cursory search of my "video content" then posting a sarcastic note.
This sarcastic, arrogant, condescending attitude you demonstrate in both your videos and your note to me, is ineffective in reaching any thinking person in any way.
I respect your obvious zeal for the Lord, and commend you for it. But keep searchin' brother -you're not there yet.
I know that you have the ability to use the Internet because the only reason I even know about you at all is that you showed up on my YouTube comments. So, though you have the ability to use the Internet, there is no evidence at all that you are using the Internet to further the cause of Christ. I have the ability to use the Internet and all anyone has to do to see whether or not I use my abilities in service to Christ is to Google my name.
You're an odd man, Norm. And yet, I must admit, I find your thin-skinned, self-delusion quite entertaining. The time you spend negating simple, well-meaning criticism rather than carefully considering it, is telling. That's nothing new though: "The wise of heart will receive commands, but a babbling fool will be ruined." Proverbs 10:8
I hear from people all the time who are being converted to Christ by the efforts to spread the gospel through the means the Lord has blessed me to use, His is the glory. So, I pray you will forgive me when I reject the advice of someone whose only evidence for even being a member of the church is couched in telling an evangelist who is being effective that they make him tired. I appreciate the fact that my zeal for the Lord is evident to you, but could I say the same to you? Sadly, no.
Your suggestion to me to use the internet in my ministry is one in which I sadly cannot engage. Those I minister to don't have the internet, or computers, or electricity. Most of them can't read. So, they won't be Googling you, or taking note of your vast accomplishments. I'm sure that had you known all of this before, you wouldn't have made such a silly, uninformed suggestion, and would have chosen instead to find some common ground on which we could relate. Or maybe not.
Jesus commanded His disciples to obey the Scribes and Pharisees, but not to be like them. Yet, when they rebuked Jesus for allowing His disciples to pick grain on the Sabbath, He did not make His disciples stop. They wouldn't have starved.
