I am sorry, but requiring professional drivers in order not to crash is the veritable definition of a bad handling car. I have a friend who owns a viper, an early model. When he's on a ride and it starts to rain, he just stops on the nearest gas station and waits for it to pass, or even hitches a ride home. No point in getting killed, the car is undrivable in the rain.

Being difficult to drive in the rain has nothing to do with the handling, and everything to do with the tires. Performance cars have low-profile tires, which means that there's more surface area upon which they interact with the road. This is a double-edged sword, because while the tires are stickier when the road is dry, they're more slippery when the road is wet. Have you ever noticed how Formula 1 drivers have to keep correcting themselves on wet straightaways? There's a reason.

@DBR96A tires might play a part but it doesn't help that the viper is unbalanced "front heavy" and has a lot of its mass higher off the ground, makes for a horrible handling car.. and F1 cars don't have to correct them selves cause they are slippery they run race slicks or high performance sport tires both hydro plane very bad.. the "Tread pattern in your tires isn't just for show it pushes the water to the sides allowing for better grip to the road..

@anti3moempir3 The weight distribution on a Dodge Viper is 49.6% front, 50.4% rear. That's pretty balanced, if you ask me. As for the tires, just because they're not race slicks doesn't mean they have good traction on wet roads. Their tread mark isn't nearly as elaborate as an all-season tire, which means that it doesn't do a very good job of pushing the water out of the way. There's a lot more surface area for slipping than there is on an all-season tire. All performance tires are like this.

@DBR96A okay.. that's not the distribution I have seen at the track.. most vipers I have seen on the scales are 55% front 45% rear.. the ACR was worse.. and I have went on ride alongs.. they have really shitty handling/ accelerating/ cornering/... they are fun cars to screw around in but all DODGE accomplished with the viper equivalent to a 1000cc shifter cart (squirrelly and most times uncontrollable)....

Dodge has not put much technology into making a car that corners well. If it was awd at least the back tires would be less prone to spinning out in the wet and snow but obviously the Viper is built for fast acceleration and top speed, not cornering ability.
