Do you realize that in the US tuition is around $30,000?!? Are you crazy? Why are people crying because tuition is at $5000?!
That is the lowest of most of the universities !!!
Realize that tuition cuts here will mean more job losses and more taxes. Do you think money grows on trees? YFS, The answer lies in not being contradictory and on the one hand supporting a strike that plummeted tuition (and therefore tuition fees went up) and then organizing a DROP fees event on the anniversary of strike
Well, if we don't do anything, then tuition fees will continue to rise. Law fees at U of T have jumped up to beyond $20,000 per year. So, by doing nothing, and sitting back, maybe we can get to the $30,000 a year tuition fee level.... nope - better to take action now so our siblings, children and grandchildren get to access education as they deserve! Further, student debt in Canada is now $13 Billion -- that should make anyone concerned and if we don't act that will continue to rise!
On Nov.5th thousands of students took to the streets in various provinces in Canada.
Furthermore it was an "International Day of Action against the Commercialisation of Education"!! Groups in more than 20 countries on 5 continents arranged protests and events on that day!!
The commercialisation of education is driven by global forces and can therefore only be countered by a global movement!
Why focus on York? Because this is a video produced by York students for York students to highlight the YFS campaign that brought out a great contingent in 2008! It's a thank you to York students for being so involved in the campaign...
Drop those FEES!
