I've never played the GBA version, but Nintendo probably found and fixed the bugs. This particular bug works because walls in SMW are considered just background. They aren't really there. The only thing that keeps you from walking/falling though walls and floors is that grassy line. Which Nintendo didn't put on the bottom of most grounds.
