Actually.. Peroxide kills white blood cells, which are necessary in the healing process. Also "boils" the dirt in more deep.

Keep a squirt bottle, like something glue would be it. You can get clean, empty bottles in the sand art section of most craft stores. Wash w/ soap, warm, clean water and then mix iodine or betadine with clean, warm, tap water. Irrigate profusely.

Hey - Tell your mom or whoever she is that Hydrogen Peroxide is not really more effective than washing the injury in hard-soap and water. PLUS - Hydrogen peroxide is much more likely to cause permanent tissue damage causing nasty scars.
