  • what i would do when building wonders i would research the trade tech and then build caravans and that would help speed up the construction of wonders if you did not already know

  • when i would play this game i would always choose a communist government and try to make the best ever

  • also, the lighthouse is very important because it allows you to travel to anywhere you want with ancient ships. You'll have maps that everybody wants to trade for. The great war is one of the worst improvements to build, because you only need walls on your border cities, and walls are easy to build. You should switch to an aqueduct so that your city can keep growing. When there're more people. Future productions will be faster. (Wow, I remember much more of this game than I expected...)

  • You can be more awesome if you research ships right after you realize that you're on an island. Trading technologies with other civilizations is very important. It's much easier than researching them yourself. It'll also allow you to build more cities on other continents, thus increasing your total income for scientific research.

  • for me it was, comunism at mid game.. lets kick some asses broski

  • hmm, I just noticed, that leather skin at 04:03 is the skin notch used in minecraft

    just an observation...

  • @hungaryanhyker haha, interresting q:

  • Leonardo's Workshop is so game-breaking. I can see why they got rid of it in later Civ games (or rather, nerfed it massively.)

    Great Library rocks too.

  • i have a question? how do you record a game such as this, without using a camera and making it all fuzzy and crappy? does your webcam does it? if so, then how?

  • Prince is very difficult setting on any version, stick with Warlord till you are good enough to avoid showing the world that you can't play on this setting - other than that, I enjoy watching.

  • Prince is hardcore mna, you need to practice a bit on Warlord

  • @MrLegendarygeek I REALLY like french people, but on civ, my NEMESIS

  • Great Game! I play ever 8 years before!!!

  • I hate the french in civ 2, ALWAYS rushes me and takes part of my VERY ECONOMICALLY POWERFULL cities,

But i counterattack with a few naval invasions and then get some catpults to attack capital

THE POINT IS, i hate the civ 2 french!!!!!

  • @diplomat1o11 Fuck you i'm french =p

  • hey dude research bronze working first

  • i never use warriors :D phalanxes ftw!

  • i used to play this alot when i was younger

  • i used to play this on my computer but i got a new and got rid of the old one and it doesn't work on my new cause i think the graphic card is too new :(

  • @aspec100 This game doesn't much care what kind of graphics card you have. It doesn't even use DirectX, just Windows GDI which should work on anything. You could run into compatibility problems with the videos but I doubt you'd have a problem with the actual game graphics.

More likely, your problem might be from running 64-bit Vista or Windows 7. As I recall this game is an old Win16 (Windows 3.x) program, and I think Microsoft dropped support for Win16 on those OS.

  • for me expanding and conquering worked for me

  • My personal favourite tactic (also playing on Prince difficulty) is usually to try to stay friends with everyone and put 100% of my production on sience output (and also trying to squeeze Great Library in) until you can build Air Bases. Then you just send engineers around the map and boom, you got yourself insant teleportation for all your troops. (:

  • Oh, don't focus too much on the world wonders, after all, the effects will be cancelled after some time when you discover more thing with science, and far in the game, you'll capture enemy cities and also their world wonders, use for that battleships and tanks.(you can transport them overseas with the transporter ships if neccesary) The best is to prepare an invasion, so be patient and build more and more units and strike at the right moment when you think you have enough units.

  • I found a strategy that worked well for me:

    1) in the beginning, focus on expanding your civilization, build cities and irrigations around them

2: when the possibility of changing into republic shows up, take it, just to get started ;-)

    3) after you build some cities, build libraries and everything that increases science output.

    4) the best ideology for this game is fundamentalism, when it's available (that is science for), take it and never change back. no more unhappy people.

  • my strategy is,

1)save the game asap and explore the land to find good spots to build cities. mostly close to the sea with WALES which gives less turns and sciense to the city.

2)building roads to increase sciense output and trade. so that i could earn more money with Marketplace and less discoveries turns with liberies.

3)i use Monachy untill i found Demogracy. i built Michaelangelo Cathedral, Hanging Garden and J.S Cathedral to reduce unhappiness. >>>

  • 4)Demogracy is the best for both money and sciense. i was alright with the help of Wonders. cities will grow faster. cities number will increase in one turn if you have enough food and have farm. the best i had with Demogracy is, having 3000 G per turn with 4 Turns on Science with 20 Cities. i could attack anyone with tanks while they are still riding the horse.

5)save the game quite often as AL will give you hard time.

i only play it on DEITY difficulty. still so much fun. AWESOME GAME

  • get the statue of liberty. Getting fundamentalism is way quicker that way.also forests have really good production I usually keep them

  • Civilization 2 is an awesome game. But the AI cheats though. They get to buy wonders a bit by bit by turn.

  • You are really bad at that game.

    lol barracks.

  • Graphics don't make the game

  • Well i would find out more about the game first, and depending on that, i would make my decision, good graphics or not.

  • You suck.

  • lol nice insult very articulit lol idiot

  • Civ2 is a classic, and you got it and all the other games because Civ1 & Civ2 exist...

    Don't squander classics...

  • hmm yes, "articulit" indeed

  • jemar learn english

  • wow only way that you couldn't understand what i typed is if you didn't no English so shut up you said 3 words im pretty sure that not a sentence

  • I disagree; it's easy to make a 3-word sentence. Like this:

    You're an idiot.

"You're" is a contraction of the subject and the linking verb, "an" is an article, and "idiot" is the predicate nominative.

  • ya but thats not what he said he should have should jemar you should go learn english but he left out several words

  • go back to your halo you pathetic konsole kiddie.

its a shame that a shitload of polygons and particle effects out the ass is what constitutes a good game these days.

consoles are murdering gaming, its all about the flashy quick sell rather than creating something that actually has some depth.

  • i dont play halo actually and i never said graphics make the game but they atract the gamer i have played a game with bad graphics and liked it better then one with good graphics but im just saying that when it looks better peaple tend to play it before they play one with bad graphics

  • @Kain5th i agree with you

  • @Kain5th i totally agree with you man

  • what do you expect for 1996?

  • lol ive only ever played once and either i got rly good beginners luck or ur rly bad at civ 2

  • If you press the K key you can have your settalers will do all the improvments around your cities. An if you hit auto button in the cities it will build the builds for you.

  • In my experience with RTS games, it's always best to build what you need in your cities before you do any major exploring. Once you've got things going at a steady pace, start pumping out military force and pummel your enemies into the ground.

  • the reason you build the great library you fucking dimlow, is because it gives you every technology known by at least two civs. thats why you get great library. on a lighter note my fav was always J.S Bachs cathedral

  • dude, ure the worst civ II player ive ever seen xD

  • no i am rpob the worst player ever

  • i hate being on a tiny island, but anyway you need to get great libary because it is good, then you can raise taxes

  • why library first?

  • that is no very useful introduction for the game...

you need more citys and you have to research completely different, if you'd like to play seriously

  • im pretty good at the game, just wondering.

  • when i start i always aim for democracy so i can get the statue of liberty and have fundamentalism.

  • first of all you should try to develop republic, its much better than the democracy, 2 unhappy people for each unit... that cant work!

maybe we should discuss that via ICQ

and sorry for my bad english

  • democracy lets you get the statue of liberty which allows you to get any form of government you want. Fundamentalism lets you make alot more troops, the people are allways happy, the luxuries, taxes, and science go way up.

  • 141702109

science gets only real support by democracy oder republic.

fundamentalism can be an alternative after researcing Tanks

  • Hey man Civ. II is the best game EVER!! may i suggest trying go discover Bronze Working sooner, so you can fortify a Phalanx in every city 4 defence. then get the great library and later Leonardo's Workshop( u must fist disover Invention) ... Then build it, and wala ... every time u discover a better unit that can b upgraded ur Phanlax will turn into it!!

  • I've actually never been a big fan of the war part of the game, I definitely like kingdom building but I have a few rules about when I will attack a kingdom. I attack

    1) When they're specifically getting in my way

    2) Manifest destiny

Still, I did make sure to do Leo's Workshop if only for the reason you recommended, but by my two rules generally these aren't a problem until later so I try to wait before I phalanx it up. But, still, pretty useful tips!

  • Best use of the "edge of the world" concept? Golden Sun, hands down.

  • I gotta agree. The whole concept of GS rocks. :p

  • Unless you have the Pyramids, granaries are fairly important. If I remember, last I played I actually went Library->Granary->Barracks->City Walls for the beginning.

But I tend to get attacked a lot at the beginning. If not, a Temple is good.
