The last time i heard from him he said that he hasn't worked on any vehicles at all instead he lives in an abandoned building with no electricity or running water, and he gets shot at daily. Their supplies are scarce and whenever he is supposed to work on a vehicle he can never get the tools that he needs to fix it. If he was a marine i would expect it but for a USAF mechanic

Hamilton940 is correct. My nephew is in the Air Force. He was deployed to Iraq recent;y and his assignment is driving convoy. Not what he expected to be doing, but he said he's proud to be serving his country. He is only 21.
Air Force transportation Squadrons are in fact doing convoy work. Also SF.& EOD is also out there. I think many of them are in the Red Horse Expeditionalry Force. Air Force Hospital units have medics assigned as combat medics with at least Army combat units. And just in case you didnt know, Marine combat medics are acutally Navy Corpsman. You don't have to be a grunt to be in the thick of it in Iraq. Not everyone is at Balad Air base. Patrols.

And yes, the United States took control of the Iraqi infrastructure (ports, airfields, etc) and propped up an interm government in hopes of establishing another friendly nation in the region, that's undebatable. Air Force transportation Squadrons are in fact doing convoy work. Also SF.& EOD is also out there. I think many of them are in the Red Horse Expeditionalry Force. Air Force Hospital units have medics assigned as combat medics with at least Army combat units. And just in case you didnt know, Marine combat medics are acutally Navy Corpsman. You don't have to be a grunt to be in the thick of it in Iraq. Not everyone is at Balad Air base. Patrols.
