ok to start off with Garter snakes are venomous and no matter how many capital letters you use thats not going to change lol... and as far as i know its only goldfish that contain thiamine, although 5 fish twice a week seems like a hell of a lot even if ur garter was fully grown, so it could have been overfeeding that caused ur snake to die, although if minows do contain thiamine also then thats what killed ur snake.. if u get another reptile pet id advice researching it in a lot more detail..

no feeder fish!!! they will kill your snake switch it to pinky mice or fish fillet, or at the very least guppies! go to my pet forums . com you will find a large group of great prople who will be happy to help you with your garter.

dude i didnt just ask one person at the pet store. i asked at like 3 different pet stores and not only that. i did alot of research on the web and there not venomous. and besides i checked its mouth and it has no fangs. so how would it even use the venom!?

they are rear fanged venomous. you can't see the fangs because they are tucked against the roof of the mouth in the way back, until the snake wants to eat.  It uses it's very NON lethal venom to EAT....It knows that its venom is for VERY small prey, so it doesn't use it when biting potential enemies. no pet store will ever know about the VERY LITTLE venom that gerter snakes do produce, mainly because VERY few people know. I was just as shocked as you are when I found out. happy holloween.
