this breaks my heart 2 c these creatures die off so slowly its been 12 yrs n they can only produce 85 4 the past time like they said only a 10% chance of suvival my grandpa use 2 hav 1 but his dad had a averiy of 15 before he retired from breeding n now i c this men if only they were here they would do everything 4 them im 23 n i told these guys that i like 2 join them 2 sav the species they accpected me 2 join them 4 the past 16 yrs of bird training n guys i will try my best wish me luck

the 2 dislikers hav balls of fail why dislike this video? i mean i belong with these birds i am named after them, named after the birds of prey aka Talon, my family raised birds 4 300 years i was brought here 4 them. i been taking good care of these wonderful creatures 4 15 years n this is how repay them? guys their just like u. Only that people kill animals 4 sport but these birds hav sufferd alot i hope u people understand that the way were treating animals is not right.

It wouldn't be a good idea to have plants next to their cages as most trees and plants are toxic for them. I hope plants are safe for the birds.

@imabadspeler Yup thats true and they never come down where the plants are. Trees are safer than some of these plants which are a source of nilaktin (white blood they possess), it just happens to be really toxic for them.

@MegaAndroidboy breeding is simply when they put a male and a female together in an attempt to get them to mate, therefore producing offspring. there are many different types but this is just the basic definition. Noticed your for Porto Rico so in Spanish.. simplemente cuando le pusieron un hombre y una mujer juntos en un intento de llegar a su compañero, la produccion de los niños. hay muchos tipos diferentes, pero esto es solo la definicion basica. my Spanish still isn't that great...

Somebody asked about insemination of females, for faster breeding. We hope that this will be possible soon. Until last year it had been almost impossible to obtain sperm from males of larger parrots (including macaws). Loro Parque Fundación and the University of Giessen have tested a new technique which has produced very good results in several species (not yet Spix’s Macaws). We are working on improving the technique and let’s see if we can speed-up the Spix’s Macaw breeding.

Somebody asked if the egg hatched. Yes it did. This event was featured on a BBC TV programme called Nature’s Miracle Babies (Episode 4, 25/10/2011). Unfortunately in 2011 we did not get any chick from the same breeding pair, but two young females started laying eggs for the first time. These eggs did not develop, but we hope that they get it right in the next breeding season, which will start soon.

This year we were honoured with a VIP visit from Carlos Saldanha, director of the movie RIO. Carlos travelled a LONG way to come face-to-face for the first time with a real Spìx’s Macaw. Thank you Carlos for making a great movie that has informed as well as entertained.

Thank you to everybody for their interest in what the Loro Parque Fundación is doing to try to save the Spix’s Macaw. We breed some other threatened species of macaw relatively easily, like the Critically Endangered Blue-throated Macaw of Bolivia (and we also fund its conservation in the wild in Bolivia), but the Spix’s Macaw is VERY difficult to breed.

Plus Jessie in all his interviews put's across that it's a Spix macaw not a Blue macaw, and for that I respect him.

@slub77 lol nonono. During the carneval, Tulio and Linda dress up as the birds and Tulio catches himself in the mirror, then he exclaims something in Portugese and one of the words was Spix (or something like that) then proceeds to act like a bird in a comical manner.

@piplup2009 Well the actual Spix's Macaws are currently labeled as Critically Endangered they are said to be extint in the wild but they are not completely sure due to some survey not being complete somewhere. Also I think currently if they want to save them all of the centers should take the same approach as the one in Qatar.
