[German 1]"So for the next employee party we were thinking of the following, first coffee at the coffeehouse here, then we rent a bike at the bike rental, and then we all cycle to the zoo, which is right here." [Hitler]"No, we're not going to the zoo, we're going bowling, I want to go bowling..." [German 1]"Eh well I don't know, eh..." [German 2(baldy)]"We allready went (tbc)
(cont) bowling last year, we want something different this time. (awknowledging sounds from the bystanders)" [Hitler]"I want to go bowling! We're going fucking bowling!" [German 3]"Yeah but yesterday a baby seal was born, for your information!" [Hitler]"I fucking hate seals! Fucking animals!" [German 3]"That is not true! seals happen to be very cool animals!" (tbc)
[Hitler]"I'd rather go to Madurodam (a dutch miniature city tourist attraction) then that fucking zoo! Or, to Drievliet! (another lame Dutch tourist attraction/amusement park)." [German 4(Goebbels)"Ok, so why don't we just go to Drievliet then? (discouraging sounds from bystanders) Could be quite fun you know..." [Hitler]"What about miniature golf... how do you all feel about that? (people leave)".
And yeah, I could keep on going for a number of posts. But please, this is just a funny clip about uncle Adolf and his buddies planning a staff outing. Don't you guys get it?
A few remarks: The Dutch army was underequipped (1 tank; 124 aircraft) and mainly consisted of conscripts at the beginning of WWII. I don't really believe that all of our brave conscripts joined the resistance or join the British forces. In addition to that, we did surrender, but not onder false "circumstances" as you say. The Dutch government itself decided to surrender - the most humane solution if you ask me.
Stfu HotelEcho Ur country starded the fucking war! Don't be proud on ur self that Holland losing from the germans. Hitler was a bad man! you must be happy that the war is over.
the germans conquered us not because of the blitzkrieg technick but because of the blackmail. they burned rotterdam and threatened to burn down al our great cities! facking weaklings they were! it's an insolence to defeat a country on such a way. if you have payed a little atention in your history education you would know that. and of course we were suprised. signing a contract of peace and then attack, that so facking childish and weak. the whole third reich was an insolence and pathetic!
I think this movie is not made for us to start this discussion, but now we're in it I might as well participate. During WW1 the Netherlands were neutral and didn't participate in the arms race. This resulted in them entering WW2 with obsolete weaponry. On top of that Germany actually had the most advanced army at the time. I seem to recall that Poland was conquered in 2 or 3 weeks as well. By the way neilladriaansen, do you know how Germany was defeated? Does Dresden ring a bell? Probably not...
they were neutral because they didn't want war and they know they couldn't win, their is nothing rong with that. and the netherlands army wasn't weak (as many people say) they were only outnumbered. and we knew we couldn't win. so we surrendered, under false sercumstances. and the soldiers of de dutch army formed the greatest part of our resistence or joined the brittish troops. we choose to live on our knees and not die on our feet, because someone who dies on his feet can never take revenge.
and i know germany was defeated, but probably hotelecho1 doesn't know.... and taking over holland was peace of cake at first. but now it won't be so easy anymore. and the resistence had better weaponary because of supplies from the brittish forces. and the poland army was also obsolete and weak, but in poland the conquest took longer because the army was larger and poland is much bigger. the netherlands is smal, with i bike you can get from one side to another, does the bell ring :) no offend.
The Dutch army, when they were forced into war, lacked experienced soldiers, armour, artillery- and airsupport. They were also outnumbered ánd German army was more advanced and experienced. Still operation "Fall Gelb" apparently took too long, so the Germans decided to bomb Rotterdam (and threatened to bomb other cities). At the end of WW2, allied forces did the same: non-strategic bombings of cities like Dresden an Hamburg. I'd like to end with this quote: "ik val aan, volg mij" KWFM Doorman
yes thats treu, they leaked experience, there is no doubt to that. but they were suprised, blackmailed and cheated. thats a fact. rotterdam was one big blackmail. and of course the allies did the same to germany. we have a nice qoute for that in holland: "wie een klap geeft, kan hem terug verwachten"
but actually it doesn't really matter. the war is over. and germany is on our side now. and whole europe works together as a team.
i only hate statements like those from hotelecho1 because he obiously didn't read the history books or had a proper education.
there are still alot of people who are saying that holland still sucks. because of what happens a long time ago. and we could hold the germans for longer. we could never win but we could hold them longer. belgium is much smaller and could hold them for weaks. but we were blackmailed, cheated and suprised. and had no support at the time because it was so unexpected.
I must agree with you. The war is over and I'm glad Europa is beginning to 'function' like "the united states of europa". There still are some ignorant people who do not believe in an united Europa. Why the hell am I typing in English by the way? I indeed, am Dutch. Haha, ik geloof dat het is: "wie de bal kaatst, kan hem terug verwachten". Maar goed, ik moet zeggen dat dit toch een interessante discussie was :P
Imagine if someone tried to create a game about Hitler, such as Total War and Europa 3 have done for Napoleon. A well educated person would say, "What's that difference?"
@havee3333333 Not quite. Napoleon did not have weapons of mass destruction at his disposal. And I'm not talking about nuclear weapons, I am talking about machine guns and hordes of planes that drop bombs (which took more lifes than nukes at this point). As for a game about hitler: I understand your point. the problem with a game about hitler is that the wounds of WWII are still too fresh. And Hitler was, in the eyes of many, a monster. He was commited genocide and numerous atrocidies.
@havee3333333 Napoleon however did not. Hitler was a terrible person that ruled europe with an extremely oppressive and cruel regime. He openly tried to eradicate an entire people! Napoleon didn't do all those things. Because napoleon was just a conqueror who empower his own nation and gain power by it. Hitler however wanted to force his regime upon the world. Nations are not pieces of land, they are people. Through victory can only be achieved by winning the harts and minds of the people.
The British, at the time, spread horrible propaganda about Napoleon. They made him look similar to what the current propaganda about Hitler is like. And guess what, if 100 years ago I said something good about Napoleon, I would be looked at like a bigot. Only in our era do we look at Napoleon as a hero.
Napoleon had burned towns who opposed him, and he held a grip on all of Europe forcing people to follow his policies. That is a form of terrorism which America does today.
