That's the Catch-22 of playing a character so well on an iconic tv show...it puts you on the map but it also sets the standard for how people recognize you.

I can tell that Idris bristled a bit when the "Stringer Bell" question came. But I don't know if he will ever be able to stop people(media, fans, etc) from making references to that character.

Wow I had no idea the show was broadcasted here in America, I really need to get BBC America. I actually had never heard of Luther and I came across the first season by accident in my school library. I recognized Idris on the cover and said "Hey that's Stringer Bell" I had no idea that he was British and man I thought Dominic West "Mcnulty" also from The Wire hid it well! Everybody should check out Luther, it is some dark hardcore shit! A journey into the minds of the evil of humanity

@50ztej yup same here. Some things need to stay the way they are. We can come up with a spy of our own. Or try to get our hands on an american remake of the adventures of OSS117 played by jean dujardin and have a black spy. But please, bond is white and it's good the way it is. They should cast fassbender for next Bond.

@laghize OMG so ignorant. Bond can be whatever color it's his Character and Chrisma that makes the Character. Shaft isShaft because that's how Shaft was introduced and played. Please tell me where in book does it mention that Bond was a WHITE MAN! Cause I have read them all and they never admit to that.

@Stayls I'm pretty sure in live and let die it makes specific reference it him being white in contrast to the black characters in that book. Not that I'm against there being a black james bond (as long as he's correct for the part) but he is white in the books

@C8CKSTAR Who really cares right. He's a great actor and I could see him as Bond and playing it well. I am pretty damn sure others will think so as well. Black and White is fleeting. It's all about how an actor can perform and he's rising to be one of the best.

@swagboi7 I understand what you're saying, but there are some characters that I think are tied to their race, and others who are not. If it's a non-fiction character, then it should DEFINITELY be racially true.

Shaft, OTOH, is tied to being Black American because that's what created the foundation of the character. Bond, however was more a smooth Brit instead of a White man.

So, I'd be more open to a multi cultural Bond- the main hallmarks of the character have little to do with race.

@laghize ...I never seen Shaft so they can cast who they want. And color has nothing to do with anything in my eyes. Elba CAN play Shaft if they chose him and trust me, millions of people would go see Elba as James Bond.

i so happy for my big brah idris and i'm so glad that's fact that real dark skin black man wins on golden globe awards with not some sort bullshit like "dressed like woman" or "dead man as drug dealer" lol but with serious work by his own ideas! as black man i am very proud about it and proud to be black! we need more real talented strong dark/brown skin black ppl in tv and media.
