  • what's with their arms flying all around? keep your guard up all the times, even when practicing..

  • estão a umbom tempo sem treinar não é?

não passam da linha da cintura os chutes ._.

  • i kind of admit that was a good lesson

  • mga blackbelt na! dili pa gihapun kabalu musipa! paki ulaw

  • All black belts my ass ....they suck

  • ... they suck..

  • I once recall training with Nishiyama Sensei and it was a 7 am start and two people in a class of about 30 yawned and Sensei sent was so offended by this that he sent us home to get some more sleep. He said: 'If you want to sleep, sleep but don't come and train. I don't want you!' Fortunately there were more classes that day and no one dared to yawn or show tiredness after that unfortunate and embarrassing incident.

  • In America the people can get a black belt without kime, right techniques, zanshin, spirit and so on. Well, America is the country of the unlimited possibilities.

  • @DavidLennyable thats not true. I live in america, and i am close to getting my black belt. My sensei is Shihan Minoru Horie. One of Shihan Okano's principal students. sadly no one knows about him anymore. In America, a blackbelt you get without kime is not a blackbelt at all. My fellow Americans just dont know what a real black belt is, thats all. 14 ys old - 9 years experience - shotokan, tae kwan do ,wing chun, judo.

  • @DavidLennyable ..in karate ,none can't get something without kime , and right technics

  • I agree - either exhausted or a piss poor effort?

  • ?????????? mawashi geri my ass sorry

  • Nakayama believed that training only started when you were totally exhausted....looks like training hasnt started yet

  • cavolo lo faccio meglio io che sono cintura bianca....

  • Having them perform many reps just uses up the clock

  • Forget the Mawashigeris, their Mawatte turns alone are a disgrace.

  • i would whip off their black belt and give them a white one!

  • a black belt is more than the absence of colour. it is the presence of awareness...and i do not see any awareness here. poor instructor giving a seminar to these guys

  • TODOS CINTO NEGRO, MAWASHI DE CINTO BLANCO

  • O Sensei is thinking to himself: "these guys would make a better bigmac than a mawashi-geri in this McDOJO".

  • Wtf is this, Kobra Kai for middle aged men?

  • lol i started practising karate before a month and i have a better mawashi geri than them. SO i am sure that this dojo is poor or realy it is the end of the training session and everybody is exhausted......

  • I am still a white belt (not even officially so), and wondering what is wrong with their kicks? I thought at the end of the clip the looked ok. Can anyone tell me? I am curious

  • look like they give black belts for free

  • Either they can't be bothered OR they have been training for a long time and are exhausted OR this is a poor dojo. We don't know the story behind the video. Has anyone trained with this guy? I would go for exhaustion or a poor dojo, because I doubt every person would slack. Exhaustion maybe. How often do you get to train with an 8th dan? And if one came over from Japan you would probably have a long training session.

  • @iBeansOnToasTi 1000 of each technique video only shows couple minutes of this training.

  • @tomasleeman There's your answer! When I started watching this i thought, "These folks are tired and have been working out!"

  • @iBeansOnToasTi In my country sensei Kasuya 8 Dan was here last week and we did 3 hours of training but most of it was not for strength or any of those because that you can do in you're regular training we did different techniques. He gave us advice and mental guidance. Maybe this guy has a different method or they really are that slow.

  • @iBeansOnToasTi yeah must be all tired looking at you comments. cant keep up with eh Japanese instructor.

  • @iBeansOnToasTi It's generally Shotokan tradition that the black belt training class with the master is demanding and exhausting. It is often what we refer to as "spirit training", because your body has long since worn out, and lacks the capacity to execute as well as you could. It's now a test of spirit to push yourself beyond previous limitations and learn who you truly are, how deep your spirit truly runs.

  • @iBeansOnToasTi This could easily also be a special seminar held by the 8th Dan with black belts from other dojo's and therefore not a reflection of the Sensei directly (at that grade what would he be, Shihan/Renshi/Kansho/etc?). Similarly, they could be equally exhausted from repetitive training of the same technique. Or they could be "lulled" into a relaxed state by the repetitive training (it does happen occasionally).

  • @RKSloth

    Yeah exactly, we dont know

  • hahaha what is this?omg! well, in poland kids better kicks!

  • Black belts are like hot bread wtf ?? >.>

  • LOLLL!!!!! that guy did a Gidan-Barai when he mawatek... ahaha... dude ur a black belt.. but that happens sometimes when we are trying to be faster than the others and have more better attitude..;)

  • Sorry, aber bei einigen Leuten sieht das aus wie in ner Anfängergruppe : total ungelenk und lahm.Da erwartet man von jemandem, der nen schwarzen Gürtel trägt doch was anderes.

  • It's still troubling to see how many people go on youtube and just call people down. You are no better-as a martial artist- for calling someone else down, when their technique is not as good as yours. You never know, they could have trained really hard before this kick and are exhausted. It would be more constructive for everyone if you offered pointers to do the kick better, than use disparaging coments.

And BTW, I do not train here, and I do not know these people in the vid.

  • I have to agree with the last posted comments, this has to be the worst class ofstudents performing mawashi geri I have ever seen . From start to finish , the techneque is wrong. Shame on the top jap for not pulling any one up on it . Hint go to mrcubababy and you will see how this kick is to be executed in kumite

  • for guys who wear black belts ....this is the worst execution of the mawashi geri ever

at this level of graduation all technics must be executed perfectly ...

  • So this must be the dojo where you get a black belt as a welcome gift...

  • @JuNoKun1 ...lolllllllll

  • Well, did anybody in here ever hear about exhaustion? Maybe I'm wrong, but what if they had trained for several hours when the video was shot? After three or four hours of kihon my technique looks pretty much the same sometimes, i think.

  • @Krawumperl

then they would probably be wet from sweating....

  • PILE OF SHITE.

  • wow this is embarrassing to be called mawashi

  • for black and brown beltsbad techniques, no kime...

  • You try

  • wow i guess there is no such thing as kime for half of these dudes.

  • I thought mawashi geri is the same in all karate styles... I practice Kyokushin and in my opinion that kind of kick they do... is just funny and tragic at the same time; at least we do mawashi geri in a different way

  • And you'd think the blackbelts would be experienced since theyre so old.

  • The Americanization of Karate is correct. Yano sensei would never put up with such poor technique and lack of spirit in Japan.I thought only TKD chambered their leg in front for mawashi geri. Why do they not open the front foot or even pivot on the supporting leg. Disgraceful example of Karate IMHO

  • the Americanization of karate ...

  • im sorry but most of their students have very bad techniques for a black belt

  • the students suck....like they're mawashi its too low...they should be aiming for the head thats why they suck and also because tehyre really weak...if i was there i'd should them how it's done =P

  • Im soo sorry for making this comment, although, I cant understand how that many black belts cant kick a mawashi geri. Im training Shotokan Karate, and we train mawashi geri alot, and this just feels.. not right. Some are not useing their hips at all, also alot of their kicks begins from the front, not the side.(which its supposed to, the side I mean). There's no fighting spirit at all.. No disrespect for Yano though, keep up the work.

  • This is NOTkicking.

    It is throwing legs,So sad.

  • hmm can't see how you learn much in a class this big in such a relatively small room

  • This type of roundhouse kick is not very effective, just saying. It has the speed but aimed near the shoulder and arm? Really? Not enough power, but I guess its just the students.

  • In our club achieving yellow belt alone has a minimum time of 6 months. You'd have to train at least 8 years to be given black belt. The majority of the group in this video deserve a green belt at best.

  • shocking... where is the passion.. the power?

  • @theawakener7 Mr. theawakener,

I don't know whether you are a teacher yourself. If you are, I don't mean to offend you, or the teacher in this video. But looking in the past at the teachers I've had, you are probably right.

  • Do I smell Mcdojo?

  • argh! i did shotokan for a while, but it is shit kicking the air and watching yourself in a mirror, thinking you are a great fighter.

its useless for selfdefence und you cant get hard by that. now i try muay thai.

  • @gregor1972 i think to be fair, some people can learn to fight that way. (im just not one of them)

  • ossu...

  • LAME!, kicking at thin air training, BORING! always use pad training for "focus" & overall "contact" experience. This shit was put to rest 20 years ago

  • lol i agree, the students seem drained, not focused, not pushing it.

  • these ar'nt black belts , anyone have more hability and psicomotrycity than this sucka's

  • You and all the other guys posting here have no point of reference. This was taped in the Miami Shotokan Karate Club.

    Bullish heat = Exhaustion.

On top of that, this is called the 1000 Kick Drill.

that means what you see here is only a fraction of the Mawashi Geris kicked.

Imagine 100 degree heat and 1000 Mawashi Geris, 1000 Yoko Geris, 1000 Mae geris. All in a row, none stop.

This is not a drill to fine tune the technical aspect but the mental one.

  • Very sloppy, I feel for the Master as he must be a little disappointed I'm sure as these black belts are really at green belt stage.

  • This seems to be the standard on average of Shotokan practitioners (I have seen better, though); it drives me up the wall to watch them bend forward like that when doing round kicks, and not enough pivot on the rear foot, either. Not to mention that most of them looked like they thought it was nap time, not work-out time.

  • longcorker. Green belt? Do you think so. I honestly think that some white belts are better than these. The problem is that too many people in the US are given high gradings. I know guys who have been in karate for over 40 years are are black belts. I know a black belt, and he had to do a 1000 man kumite to achieve it.

  • i agree. i trained with the JKA in Japan HQ and there is no way I would've gotten away with kicks like those behind my Sensei's back. He liked kicking you in the hamstrings (or but) if you were sloppy.

  • very sloppy,,, i'm embarassed watching this

  • Well, this reminds me of how many things i do wrong myself. But at i least try to put some effort in it. And in front of an 8th dan i would be ashamed if i would wear a black belt and performed a mawashi geri like this group.

  • @pdx111111 haha you're right.. same for me..

  • @pdx111111 100% agree. Absolutely no spirit in this group. They'd get destroyed in my dojo for training like this. I only hope I never put so little effort into a technique and get caught!

  • @pdx111111 I couldn't agree more.

  • @pdx111111 so they realle are all black bel uhh?

  • i'm sorry for the teacher. his students don't seem to take his lessons seriously enough, they show no kime

  • @salvamg89 : That could be depending on the video, because it does not start at the beginning of the class. So you dont know what was ordered. A karateclass could have many purposes like endurence training, technical training spirit training or to inspire students to do more research. Beside this purposes it isnt clear for me how long they have trained that class. I trained some times under Kanazawa (10th dan) for 4 to 5 hours in just 1 class.

  • @salvamg89 stupid americans they think they learning martial arts

  • @salvamg89 - I agree that this shows very poor technique and focus. To give them the benefit of the doubt..perhaps this is at the very end of class when the students were very tired (hot and crowded) and unable to keep up.

  • @yosefsima WELL SAID

  • I my opinion the geris arent thta bad. Considering the space they have and also, it is hard to perform a hard and well rotated geri in the air because then you would have to make a 360 degree turn.

Its just how it is, atleast to get to full performance (in air).

    //mmacritic

  • i agree with adox 26:

"It's not about how high you can kick, it's about proper hip rotation and the "whipping" action of the leg".

they are not kicking well. the hip rotation is incorrect.

  • I agree with brickshooter, there are too many people in the dojo and not enough space, not even to take 5 steps. Maybe that is why the people in this video can`t make well the geris.

  • I think that there are too many people in the dojo. They're more concern about avoiding each other than their kihon.

  • i cant beleive u people actually have fucking black belts. i feel shamed to see this.

  • i agree

  • -you know a lot of ppl are criticizing the video and they are getting thumbs down even though what they are saying is correct.- ppl who want to be critics we dont know how long they have been training so dont be to hard on them- third yes it looks like they suck to me aswell but that probably why their sensei is punishing them with basic drills because he probably thinks they suck too :P boy do i think they suck... they look like 7th kyu to me

  • It's not about how high you can kick, it's about proper hip rotation and the "whipping" action of the leg. Sometimes it's better to kick low than to kick high, sometimes it's better to kick high rather than low. It all depends on the situation. Also these people are in very close quarters, so they can't kick high without kicking each other.

  • no technique the supporting foot is not turning so the kicks are not right the kick will go upwards and not around , if are get the heel to face their opponent then the technique will be correct .

  • Exactly. Who is thumb downing this comment? Kawasaki is totally right.

  • tooooooooooooo many people for one class

  • Comment removed

  • WTF, they kick like manga girls and they have got black belts?

  • all of you suck these people have done great this isnt even the last video they've been going for a hour and a half more really half of yall actually train you make me sick

  • I dont get the impression, that they are really trying to do it correct.

they first turn the front foot, then they kick, but the foot must turn because of the kick.

Also none of them seems to be able to do the kick higher than their belt is

And the best is, that this seems to be right done, because their sensai doesn't correct them

    just Lol :-)

  • Poor form. The sensei needs to dish out punishment to the 'paper' dan grades so the kyu grades have someone worth looking up to.

If I did this my original sensei would have smacked me to the ground HARD!

  • Yeah, I think it so!

  • @cekka85

ive seen much worse. lol. but this is very shameful. ive been doing karate for the past 10 years and everyclass is hard one on one training and hard strength training. im about to start mma training. i hope to make it in the ufc after i finish college.

  • You have been doing karate and still don't understand karate...

  • ok. first of all who the hell r u to say i dont understand karate. in order to be very good at karate, u need to put in hard work. no slacking. these people are slacking off. every move is to be done with power and precision. thats how u prefect the art and become a stronger martial artist. im a 4th dan in shorinji ryu kenkokan karate and i know good karate training wen i see it. ive been to many tournaments and classes of other styles and ive seen much better than this shameful training. pft!

  • @ryu1036 Srry but i don't think that you're 4 dan... I'm doing karate myself like 5 years.. En i'm 12 now. (you may think i'm not good) But i also see when something is good! And this is right. (maybe to mutch people) But they train as they should and they work hard! I think 1 of them kan hit you so hard and quick that you couldn't react on it!

  • i have pics of me getting promoted to 4th dan. would u like 2 see?

  • @ryu1036 Yes pls! I'm always interested in those kind of things. But can you prove it's you!?

  • yea. wats ur email?? if u have an aim that would be even better. send it to me in a message.

  • @Yegor0578 , if you consider this a hard work, than your five years of training have been wasted. These people show no heart, no desire to do a technique as well as they can. It's a shame in my opinion to show up at a seminar with a great old master just to train half-heartedly, with no spirit. They're throwing their legs stiff, with no real hip action, no knee action at all, and they're "striking" somewhere knee-high with sleepy expression on their faces. A shame!

  • @PanicusVulgaris Yeah srry... I wasn't looking good to them. i through it was hard work because of the teacher :D sorry guys I wasn't looking to the students.

  • nossa sem comentarios melhor video de karate que eu ja vi

  • They do seem to be taking it easy a bit!

  • Uma aula de grande importância.

    Parabéns.

    Oss.

  • holy cow, whole bunch of lazy karate practitioners! you are better off taking arnis!

  • -_-" e questo sarebbe karate?......certo che le cinture nere le regalano proprio a tutti

  • Sometimes training is all about heart. You train til your technique falls apart and you lose your balance and your stance and your speed and everything, everything BUT the will to keep going. That's where many of these people are. They're running on empty, but they're still running. My hat's off to them.

  • Seek Perfection of character. That is a wonderful explanation.

  • couldn't agree more. "through exhausting training lies the key to attainment"

  • Sorry, but if you have good technique then it will not fall apart no matter how tired you are. I usually train hard kickboxing for at least one hour until my legs feels like spaghetti and still can kick clean and correctly on the sandbag. Technique is just using your muscles most effectively i a split second.

  • Good lord, people. Do you know nothing about traditional training? This is the 10th video section of this class. These people have been going hard, nonstop, for almost an hour. They aren't lazy or bad, they're just running out of gas. The teacher isn't disgusted, he's very patiently driving them to their limits to help them find out what they have inside.

  • An hour of training is nothing, even if you're training hard. Most traditional masters continue to train up to six hours daily into their 50s and 60s. If these people are as serious and dedicated as you make them seem, they should be training for at least two hours, if not more.

  • At a lower rank, it's forgivable, but at the level they're supposed to be at, it's unacceptable. At black belt, when you're ready to begin real training in your art, an hour should be a warm up.

  • What! the standard is so bad, if there was some explaination why they are so bad, but there is not, if I were these, I would not show this to the world, makes Shotokan look bad.

  • lazy karatekas

  • How come they all have black belts????

    Black belts for this??????!!!!!

  • as usual...no teacher in that class!!!

    Many repetition..for what??

These guys are very bad in tecnique. If you see, Mr Yano is not teaching..he must be thinking..why I must teach these stupid people??? Funny....

  • yeah, they are really bad.

  • BAD BAD stances very bad

  • yeap , so lame

  • that's true

    the stances must be wide

  • mawashi doesnt need a stance as such, its all about putting your weight behind the kick and so whatever you are more comfortable with will work. most other techniques will need a good stance for practise though
