"soul" is not slow vibrato, overmelodic phrasing or any other generic technique associated with soul. soul is just ones expression on the guitar...fast or slow. john mclaughlin may totally overdo it sometimes too..but i wouldnt dare say HE didnt play with soul.

His technique is amazing as always, but he's had better tone. If he got rid of the envelope filter, delay and reverb, his sound would improve a million fold. As for the envelope filter, I'm still debating whether or not it's that or a wah pedal. Anybody know for sure? Also, doesn't downtuning on a 6-string really mess with the guitar's intonation, especially if it has a floating bridge?

@6672rock: If the Guitar is set up right, it will be no problem to downtune a floating-type guitar. but it won´t work, if you´ll tune down "on the fly"/in the song. you have to retune the strings many, many times until it has a solid tuning. it´s either or :-)

btw: this is not a wah; I THINK it´s a envelope.... some kind of a phaser? but I´m Not sure
