Lots of problems with this ad. First of all, using a silent film star to pitch a technological product is idiocy. We don't use cavemen to sell cars. And second "a price YOU won't believe" was a bad choice of words, as the PCjrs 700 dollar price tag was double the cost of it's contemporaries.
My first computer was a PCjr. Father gave it to me, from a second-hand store, plus Hayes 2400 baud external modem. AT DT? I loved it, would check batch jobs from home, saved me a second trip to work at night. Used my PCjr daily until I went to college. Planned to sell it, didn't know if it had any value. I took the very first offer: $400! Disk drive eventually broke, after 3 owners and seven yrs service. Keyboard was so easy to use for small hands! Well-made too. Thanks for posting nice video.
The PCjr was the IBM model 4860. It was also awful. The wireless barely worked more than a few feet, chewed through batteries like they were going out of fashion and was made from those horrid chiclet type pads to keep costs down. Cool advert though!
Wow, what a blast from the past. Thanks for posting it! The IBM PCjr was my first computer. I loved how easy it was to expand with the parallel ports. The wireless keyboard was WAYY ahead of it's time. I use to use it with my 1200bps modem... yes thats a whopping 1200bps to visit various BBSes which was really a early version of the internet when you think about it.
Had one and LOVED it. The IR keyboard was VERY forward for the time and it was a super all-around home computer.

I don't believe those graphics either.
I don't believe somebody could actually refer to a series of multi-colored, 2D pixels as "graphics".

What was the model number for this one (the original IBM PC was 5150, the IBM Portable was 5155)?
