  • you idiots! put some cloths on! The worst thing you can do in the desert is expose your skin to sun. Your sweat glans will be damaged by the sun and your body won't be able to cool itself

  • ITS NOT A CRICKET.....ITS A GRASSHOPPER....QUITE EDIBLE.....CRICKETS IN AMERICA ARE LITTLE BLACK FELLAS....AND WE CARRY GUNS OUT HERE IN THE MOJAVE...YOU LOOK COOLER ANYWAY!

  • ITS NOT A CRICKET.....ITS A GRASSHOPPER....QUITE EDIBLE.....CRICKETS IN AMERICA ARE LITTLE BLACK FELLAS.....

  • Get a Hydration pack, real life saver

  • Next time wear loose, white, long-sleeved breathable shirts and a hat. That sun will bake your bare skin & head, which only serves to dehydrate you even quicker.

  • @hannibalsdad ..sounds like a good plan of attack..cheers

  • @hannibalsdad actually loose dark clothing would be better, UV rays pentrate light colors, but the main thing is have plenty of WATER

  • @MrEhud77

As I understand it, dark clothing absorbs heat while light clothing reflects it. They sell long sleeve hiking shirts with built-in UV protection. Check out those guys who run 100 miles across the desert. They all seem to prefer long-sleeve white, loose-fitting shirts.

I run in the AZ heat... that is my preference based on experience. I could be wrong though.

  • correction....white shirts reflect "light" and dark colors absorb light.... which then turns into heat. Go to REI and get a shirt with built in UV protection and you're set for clothing. Then just hydrate all day before your outdoor exercise and it'll go smoother than if you didn't take those measures.

  • @adventurek9 Supposedly Scientist have fopund that black is better than white, If you think of a skier who gets sunburned and goes snow blind, thios makes some since. Alot of Arabs will wear black in 130 degree heat. I haven't personally done the research but I've never noticed too big a difference (I grew up in New Mexico) since black does make you sweat nore which will in turn cool you more but will also dehydrate you faster,So I can't really say for sure but that's what sciebtists have said.

  • @adventurek9 Not that scientists are always right.

  • @MrEhud77

one thing we both agree on is the need for a long-sleeved loose fitting shirt. :-)

Throw in some sunblock, wide brimmed hat that covers the back of the neck and lots of water, and suddenly that hike isn't' so life-threatening. Happy hiking everyone.

  • @adventurek9 very true! One bit ok Knowlege that would help in that situation is that rubbing the fleashy part of Prickly pear Cactus pads on oneself is similar to using spf 30 sunblock...but you need to apply it often.

  • i remembering hiking the grand canyon, and running out of water... its scary, really.

btw, its a grasshopper, not a cricket. slight morphological difference, but nonetheless a difference.

  • yes, we feel ashamed that we watch all kinds of survival programmes, then made such a stupid error. NEVER underestimate the power of water...or lack of it...haha

  • @clothmonkeybag water is heavy too... thats teh draw back I find.. sure Ill take enough water but just hauling it is a pain in the but..

  • @haha48 .....true....it just gets hot too....and who the hell wants to drink hot water when the temp is over 100 degrees..

  • @clothmonkeybag Actually.. try drinking a hot drink on a hot day.. it will actually make you feel cooler..

  • @clothmonkeybag or 115

  • @MegaSousaphone ........??????????????

  • You may have watched Ray but looks like you didn't listen to him
