Oh wow, what a beautiful video and song. Emma is such a great inspiration to me. The words that really touch me most is "When you lost your husband, when you buried your children."
People deride this great woman because she did not follow the saints westward, I find it amazing the faith she had, she stood by her husband, she lost children, lost her husband, looked after her mother in law, she was and is truly a woman of faith, and all LDS be it LDS or RLDS should be proud of her.
I am a better woman for watching this. My heart is filled with gratitude and love for a woman who really endured. I hope I can learn to endure with a queen's grace. Thank you for such an inspirational piece of music.
hi lds9999, i loved watching this video. did you just put the movie to the song? is it possible to get a copy of it? i have to do the music spot in Relief Society in a few weeks & I would like to use this song. Would love to hear back from you. Thanks :)
I love Sister Emma, she had to have such a strong testimony in order to go through everything that she did. I don't know if I'd be able to stay as strong as she did after my husband being killed and most of my children dying. I can't imagine the pain she felt, and still stayed so strong!
admiro mucho la fortalesaa de fe que tenia emma smith, quisiera algun dia poder aprender mas de ella y de su amor a nuestro padre celestial, y al nuestro evangelio.
Despite her falling away, she was a marvelous woman. there is no way any of us could possible understand exactly what she went through, all the agonies she had to endure. for her to have survived so long in the gospel with everything her family went through...it's no surprise she finally just broke. Her story is amazing, as is she. One of the many I look up to beside my mother and grandmother.
Somebody said the church lied in this video. This video was not produced by the church. The church donated $ to a 3rd party org in an effort to help create a video to honor Emma Smith. Any errors are not the fault of The Church nor the leaders thereof ; who are disciples of the Lord, and would not lie to the public.
I am a Mormon and I hate to correct you. She hasn't started any new religion. Her son did though. She has a personal reason to leave the Church but never denies that Joseph Smith is a prophet. Read her autobiography.
I agree with you & I'm a former LDS, now Community of Christ, but they also recongnize Joseph Smith Jr besides the 3rd, & yes if Emma Smith nor her son supported the church,it would have fizzled away.We owe greatly to her& her son countinuing her husbands legacy. Thanks to Jesus Christ & his father God for inspiring his family.
Certainly. I came from a baptist church before LDS,left the LDS church ,did research on other splinter churches & found the Cofchrist.Did research on it & God led me there, but the thing is since we both started with Joseph Smith Jr. I believe both theLDS church & the Cofchrist are true churches, both led by God.
I am happy to hear that you're with Christ rather than other religion that doesn't support Christ's teaching. I am sure the CoC are a good group as well as the LDS.
I never said she denied Joseph Smith... The reason RLDS(now community of Christ) even started was because she believed her son should be the prophet. So no, she is not a mormon woman of faith.. She did not trust the lord's decision in calling Brigham Young a prophet.
As history dictates Emma made a terrible mistake. The RLDS Church is now a member Church of the the general Christian council because it couldn't survive financially on it's own. A male lineage was not to be eventually the male line ran out.
I agree that she had to endure a lot. I'm not trying to judge Emma by saying she was bad. I'm only saying that your title is wrong. She was not a mormon woman of faith, since she left the chuch and started the RLDS because Brighum Young was called to be a prophet and not her son. That's all I'm saying. She was not a bad person, but a mormon woman of faith she was not.
Though I agree somewhat I just wanted to point out that Emma didn't start the RLDS church. Her son did when he agreed to become their president/prophet.She supported him until her death.
Was at first, but in the end she wasn't. I don't get why these lds can't admit when the church or historic figures in the church make mistakes. Like when the church lied about Joseph Smith having the gun in the movie.. No one can admit it was a lie except for me. The church is lead by prophets true , but those prophets are men. Hi spearmintanthony, the church didn't lie about the gun. I was shown an article involving a gun from Ensign (don't ask which issue it was as I can't remember) and also at Church Museum, they got his gun on display for everyone to see. Not a lie.
We are only men. Men are imperfect. Do you have children? If so, you should have experienced the feeling of knowing that they might do something wrong, but you'll never withdraw your support and love of a child. At the end of this video, she gives her testimony of Joseph as a prophet. Emma endured a lot in her life--lost her husband, lost some of her children.
Yes, she did not follow the LDS Church west but I imagine those reasons were a lot more complex than you make them out to be.
WOW everyone involved really made this message beyond powerful...videographers, directors, actors, musicians, singers, wardrobe...amazing talent! Thank you so much!!!
I would LOVE to show this at our RS bday this month! Every LDS woman should see this movie...am I able to get a dvd of it???
I remember the first time I ever heard this song. A Missionary named Elder Crump loaned me his CD and I imediately fell in love with this song. I always lose it, every time when it gets to; "I'm sure the angels stood in reverence." then it's like. Boom! Tears. <3
Does it not make you realize that with all the events of that time that in the shadow was this courageous women we all own a great deal of gratitude to.We call only imagine. Thanks for this incredible video and the music."
I can not even imagine what it would be like to go through the things this woman went through. She is truely an example of strength and giving. I love this video, it is so powerful. Thank you for making it and posting it.
Whenever I think of Emma Smith, it is as if there are two Emmas. The one up to the murder of her husgand, Joseph, is 1844 and the one afterwards. Just like Peter, the chief Apostle. There is the Peter before the Day of Pentecost and the one afterwards. In either case, mine is not to judge. As a follower of Christ, I have been commanded to love one another and leave judgement to Heavenly Father. Like King Solomon, please grant me an understanding heart. Thank you for the post.
"And now, my beloved brethren, I know by this that unless a man shall endure to the end, in following the example of the Son of the living God, he cannot be saved. "
Emma Smith is my favorite person in church history. I am grateful for this thought provoking song. I can't imagine giving up the family that raised you and the husband you gave your youth too. Thank you Emma!
emma smith was a truly remarkable woman! ladies think about what she had to go through. try to imagine if you were in her shoes. shes strong and i dont think i could have ever done what she had. its a beautiful video thank you so much for posting it! <3
The more I listen to this song, the more I like it. It seems that my life is a bit like Emma, I never had an ordinary day! :) I still think that the spirit of God carries us and makes us feel happy inside. I am sure Emma and Joseph felt the spirit of God to give them strength and carry them. That is all that matters in the end. X
A beautiful tribute to an incredible woman. In my opinion, anyone who has studied Emma's life and her loyalty to and love of Joseph Smith through unbelievable hardship and trials, cannot doubt that the Lord will understand her devastation and that His grace will be sufficiant to justify and exalt her.
She never denounced her testimony of the Book of Mormon or the vison. Emma is an Elect Lady. Thank you for this beautiful video.
I believe it was an ensign where it mentioned a story that is had by the RLDS church, where Emma was visited by Joseph and the Lord before she passed away. I can't remember which ensign, but I believe Emma was on the cover.
According to the picture, Joseph had his hand held out to her.
Yes, there is definitely a place for Emma by Joseph side in the the celestial courts above.
Thanks for your response and this information. I hope I can find that Ensign. One of my daughters spent a semester in Nauvoo through BYU 10 years ago and she was very impressed by the efforts the RLDS have made to preserve Emma's history, by their willingness to share these treasures, and by their respect of the great love and regard they realize the vast majority of us feel for her.
This song helps me so much! I listen to it probably every day. I wish I was as strong as she is. . . but I know that I can be with my Father in heaven by my side. I am grateful to have people like Emma Smith to inspire me to do better.
I also want to cry when reading the comments here. You people really buy into this propaganda? Yes, Emma was devoted to Joseph, but she vehemently hated polygamy and fought against Joseph on the issue it in Nauvoo. She was an extremely strong woman for the time, especially when standing up to the often megalomaniac Joseph. And when Joseph died she didn't follow Brigham Young (and today's "true church").
Sugar-coating history with touching scenes and pretty music doesn't change reality.
With all due respect, I am not trying to teach a history lesson with this video, but rather honor a wonderful woman.
I think with all that is written negatively about Emma, or the Church, or its history, there is absolutely no harm in taking a few minutes to dwell exclusively on the positive.
You have done a wonderful job in honoring Emma Smith. I know Joseph will know you by name when you meet him for honoring his eternal wife in this way and in the ways you will in the future.
I hope you will get a chance to see Emma as a resurrected and exalted being standing next to Joseph in a not to far distant day. If you do see her that means the Lord will have shown you the same degree of mercy and love for your unrighteous judgment and unmerciful comment, the same which He has shown for Emma.
Your narrow and miscalculated view will be seen as error in your own eyes when you come to know of the majesty and honor of Emma Smith in the hereafter.
amen. i know that all those who have chosen to honor people worth honoring will be greeted wonderfully in heaven if the right choices are made to get there.
Right now the movie is out in areas across the Country. It's been playing in Utah for months. It won't be out on DVD for a few more months I would bet.
I love this song and it is even more powerful with the video. I would love to include this in an upcoming fireside for our youth- is there any way to buy or get this in a high quality video?
Thanks for this one! Many among us judge Emma and others with no right or qualification to do it. I have always loved her and I'll always will! In her shoes, I don't think I would survive for so long. Most of us would leave the cause in the beginning. Only Jesus Christ is an authorized and fair Judge of our life's circumstances, health, knowledge, understanding! Everyone is fighting a great battle that started in the pre-mortal life.
I really wish they would do a movie about when Emma Smith Left the church. I think that could be a great lesson in God's Mercy. A woman who lost so much and would have lost ALL should she had stayed with the church. How many could make that choice? She was a great woman of faith and I'm so proud of her. She's safe in my eyes.
I have heard that the Joseph Smith Jr. Family Organization who helped produce Emma Smith: My Story is considering doing a sequel, to discuss the rest of Emma's life (i.e. after the martyrdom of Joseph until her death).
I think your comment is spot on. I hope we never underestimate the depth of the Lord's saving power and grace.
I haven't seen it. But I would love to know what people think of Emma. She also has a beautiful voice. I've never seen her act. She lived in my ward when she was asked to sing on Women of Destney.
The video is great. Its just too bad that she didn't stick with the LDS church after Joseph's death. Just want to also mention that Joseph had other wives too.
oh, yes she did, that's what she's talking about when she says "i'm sure your heart beaks when some people still say, somewhere down the line you lost your faith"
calpispocarisweat. After looking at several positive comments on this video page, and came across with your negative comment. She DID testify that Joseph Smith is a prophet. We ALL know that Joseph has other wives too. This video is about HER, not other wives. Emma Smith is a powerful woman and most well respected among LDS.
I think there are quite a few LDS people out there that don't know that Joseph Smith had many other wives. I didn't know that until quite recently because thats a topic thats never really talked about in the church.
I am LDS for 14 years. I am aware of Joseph's "many wives". I've heard about it before I've joined the Church. We don't talk much about it because it's history. We only learn the doctrines, not history. If you want history, enroll in institues.
calpispocarisweat. I would say 90% of the LDS already knows about plural marriage and so on. The topic about Joseph Smith's other wives are rarely discussed because we're at Church to learn of Christ and His Doctrine. Not a biography/history of Joseph Smith UNLESS it is revelent to Christ's teachings.
Everytime I watch this I just cry and cry. All she's been through! And to everyone out there that is against Mormons, I just don't get it! I mean she lost her kids and husband. Like the song says how much can one heart take. Thank you LDS999.
I meant to agree with your comment but I did click the wrong sign so close to the positive one .Sorry about it! Like you, I cry whenever I watch this video too!!!
I Love This Song!!! Emma Smith was a woman of faith and she stayed strong when times were bad!!! I will always love this song and think of Emma when I listen to it!!! I Love The Song!!!
emma is in my ward her name is kathren tomson she is nice I babysit for her she is great and she is realy pritty she is nice to every one I just saw the movie
That brought me to tears. Oh, what things she went through! Loosing so many children, and knowing that when he rode off, that he wouldn't come back alive. This video touched me so much. Thank you
See the description. Music from A Nashville Tribute to the Prophet Joseph Smith. The link to their website is in the description--I would highly recommend their CD, it's awesome.
It was so touching that it made me cry! It's amazing all that Emma went though, yet she still stayed by Joseph's side every step of the way. Emma must have been a wonderful wife and mother. Thanks so much for sharing this!
I was listening to these very words with my friend once in the car. And I couldn't help but say "Why can't WE find girls like that?"
...That's because women like Emma are as rare as they are precious. May we always remember in our hearts what a spectacular example the Prophet's wife was.
Perhaps the honor reserved for the heroes of the restoration will be extended by the daughters of the rEVOLution; the women who will pass through similar hardships in our day...
Emma's not fully recognized as the Queen of the Restoration, even by the Latter-Day-Saints; perhaps we will need to walk in her shoes to realize all that she and Joseph gave up, so that we could live and worship in peace... Gracias and thank you.
It,s WONDERFUL TO EVEN HAVE A MATE IN LIFE WETHER IT BE IN THE EARLY DAYS,IN WHICH I DO GIVE MY TESTIMONY THAT THIS IS TRUE IN FACT THAT ALMITY GOD HAS AN INDEED SPEEK,S THROUGH HIS PROPHET,S TO GIVE WISDOM TO SAVE GOD,s TRUE, an his devine watchful eye,s is knowlegde to future event,s an his word
Oh wow, what a beautiful video and song. Emma is such a great inspiration to me. The words that really touch me most is "When you lost your husband, when you buried your children."

I remember the first time I ever heard this song. A Missionary named Elder Crump loaned me his CD and I imediately fell in love with this song. I always lose it, every time when it gets to; "I'm sure the angels stood in reverence." then it's like. Boom! Tears. <3

i believe that she sets a good example for how a female and a girl friend, and a wife should be, instead of those you see now a days. ^_^

Thank you for the post.

this song really fits her. she lived such a tragic life. she lost a lot of her children and then she lost her husband. but at least she stayed true

"but at least she stayed true "

Emma Smith is my favorite person in church history. I am grateful for this thought provoking song. I can't imagine giving up the family that raised you and the husband you gave your youth too. Thank you Emma!

Thank you for this beautiful video.

ldsmom7:

I saw this full movie, it is just so beautiful. I never cried as much in my life!
leaaron7 3 years ago 4
I also want to cry when reading the comments here. You people really buy into this propaganda? Yes, Emma was devoted to Joseph, but she vehemently hated polygamy and fought against Joseph on the issue it in Nauvoo. She was an extremely strong woman for the time, especially when standing up to the often megalomaniac Joseph. And when Joseph died she didn't follow Brigham Young (and today's "true church").
Sugar-coating history with touching scenes and pretty music doesn't change reality.
planetwalt2 3 years ago
With all due respect, I am not trying to teach a history lesson with this video, but rather honor a wonderful woman.
I think with all that is written negatively about Emma, or the Church, or its history, there is absolutely no harm in taking a few minutes to dwell exclusively on the positive.
lds9999 3 years ago
Hello lds9999,
You have done a wonderful job in honoring Emma Smith. I know Joseph will know you by name when you meet him for honoring his eternal wife in this way and in the ways you will in the future.
leidasolo 3 years ago 2
Hello planetwalt2,
I hope you will get a chance to see Emma as a resurrected and exalted being standing next to Joseph in a not to far distant day. If you do see her that means the Lord will have shown you the same degree of mercy and love for your unrighteous judgment and unmerciful comment, the same which He has shown for Emma.
Your narrow and miscalculated view will be seen as error in your own eyes when you come to know of the majesty and honor of Emma Smith in the hereafter.
leidasolo 3 years ago 2
amen. i know that all those who have chosen to honor people worth honoring will be greeted wonderfully in heaven if the right choices are made to get there.

I love this song and it is even more powerful with the video. I would love to include this in an upcoming fireside for our youth- is there any way to buy or get this in a high quality video?
matteeswife 3 years ago
Thanks for this one! Many among us judge Emma and others with no right or qualification to do it. I have always loved her and I'll always will! In her shoes, I don't think I would survive for so long. Most of us would leave the cause in the beginning. Only Jesus Christ is an authorized and fair Judge of our life's circumstances, health, knowledge, understanding! Everyone is fighting a great battle that started in the pre-mortal life.

so beautiful it brings me to tears everytime. i never really thought of it from emma's perspective before. definitely eye opening and herat breaking
MissJordz 3 years ago
I really wish they would do a movie about when Emma Smith Left the church. I think that could be a great lesson in God's Mercy. A woman who lost so much and would have lost ALL should she had stayed with the church. How many could make that choice? She was a great woman of faith and I'm so proud of her. She's safe in my eyes.
Singasolo 3 years ago
I have heard that the Joseph Smith Jr. Family Organization who helped produce Emma Smith: My Story is considering doing a sequel, to discuss the rest of Emma's life (i.e. after the martyrdom of Joseph until her death).
I think your comment is spot on. I hope we never underestimate the depth of the Lord's saving power and grace.
lds9999 3 years ago
Has anyone seen the movie Emma Smith: My Story? What are your thoughts?
lds9999 3 years ago
I haven't seen it. But I would love to know what people think of Emma. She also has a beautiful voice. I've never seen her act. She lived in my ward when she was asked to sing on Women of Destney.

The video is great. Its just too bad that she didn't stick with the LDS church after Joseph's death. Just want to also mention that Joseph had other wives too.
calpispocarisweat 3 years ago
oh, yes she did, that's what she's talking about when she says "i'm sure your heart beaks when some people still say, somewhere down the line you lost your faith"
TheodoresGF 3 years ago
calpispocarisweat. After looking at several positive comments on this video page, and came across with your negative comment. She DID testify that Joseph Smith is a prophet. We ALL know that Joseph has other wives too. This video is about HER, not other wives. Emma Smith is a powerful woman and most well respected among LDS.
WayneTheWriter 2 years ago
I think there are quite a few LDS people out there that don't know that Joseph Smith had many other wives. I didn't know that until quite recently because thats a topic thats never really talked about in the church.
calpispocarisweat 2 years ago
I am LDS for 14 years. I am aware of Joseph's "many wives". I've heard about it before I've joined the Church. We don't talk much about it because it's history. We only learn the doctrines, not history. If you want history, enroll in institues.
WayneTheWriter 2 years ago
calpispocarisweat.
