Grr....Sometimes I just want to say "DAMN you US Government!! >:O" Ugh it makes me so angry when I see the anishinaabe being all americanized, when they were already americanized, because "WE WERE HERE FIRST!!!".......*HUFF!*..........srry haha, seeing this always gets me fired up o.o
@DasAlbatross Sorry to hear you were not able to take the class. It has been offered at the University of Michigan since the 1970s under American Culture.
I live in Oklahoma, where numerous Amerind languages are now remembered by a handful of elders. I would love to become more fluent in Choctaw, and then also learn several of the most endangered of languages, so that I could then spend time conversing with elders, eliciting and recording numerous stories and biographical material for posterity. But alas, I have a mortgage and hungry family, and therefore neither the time nor the money to do anything but watch these languages die out around me.
For anyone interested, Pimsleur has a full 30-lesson course on Ojibwe. You can find torrents for it on piratebay and demonoid and stuff. It's really good.
My blood link is Odawa and my first and only time I reached back to my ancestors in 68 years to help save what is left was a fraud. I now own some one's honor for the price of $10. I'm too old to drive all over the damn state to find a class to study in. So with me the Ojibwe language will die. And vfire27, I see you as the problem.
@vfire27 As I'm sure all people at one point are uncivilized, though yes, they are losing their way, drinking, doing drugs, many of them deny it but its true, i know it because my sister and my whole blood related family is like that, its saddening, we are described as a peaceful people, but I don't know about that anymore. Though some native americans are nice :)
Migwetch for uploading this. It's very inspiring. I'm also Ojibway and I live in So. Calif. it's hard to be away from my culture, but I'm thankful I have the Internet to keep me connected to all things Ojibway.
