@4piglite :It seems the people have made a few lousy choices-Kathy Kirby 1965 could have had a better tune.Lulu got boom bang a bang a bang a bang and it was here sheer ham ability and her singing ole at the end of the song that said cop that you spaniards and she came out tops.On the subject of Olivia,You are so right about this song being a just going down the road tune,yet if you listen,she really did her best.Note it didnt kill her career!She kept going.A woman of talent and character.

@BEYONDTHEPALE1 - yes, The Ladybirds are on one microphone. They were indeed the backing singers on Benny Hill's smash "Ernie" and on many TV variety series. I think the other two singers in this clip may be Irene and Doreen Chanter, who had a minor hit with "Sideshow".

Fourth in the contest, it did fourth best in the UK charts, reaching no 11. I See A Star and Go (Si in Italian) both reached no 8, and of course Waterloo got to no 1. In terms of the UK charts, this was the best ever Eurovision song contest.

I don't like the song, it's some old schmaltz, but the Austrian narrator, the decor at The Dome i Brighton, United Kingdom and the picture quality are first class. The BBC produced it, but this is the ORF (Österreichischer Rundfunk) transmission. Olivia Newton-John's dress is also very colourful.

I was only 9 years old but I understood perfectly he meant her eyes were so beautiful and her smile so perfect....Of course Abba won that year because they had the best song (and the best voice: lovely Agnetha), but no doubt who had the prettiest face.

I removed it because I made a mistake;-) : There is only a dutch version of the ending in 1994, but the voting procedure is from ORF (Austria). So I tried to post it again, but obviously it failed... Yes, I think it would be great if there still were some speakers like him in modern TV. I especially miss the announcers of the programm, who were common in Germany and Austria until the early 2000s....

Olivia is really cute, but she got steamrollered by the 2 ABBA women. They were just beautiful, and had a much better song to sing. Olivia has had a great career and has been wonderful to watch. Thanks for posting.

@pinheadq41 steamrolled?? um, frida had an afro there and was always called the "ugly one" in abba. i think both olivia and agnetha were the best looking women in the 70's. olivia went on even to this day as looking amazing compared to the abba girls now adays she steamrolls them.

If I remember correctly, Livvy had already agreed to be the UK entry, with the BBC viewers voting which song she sang after a Saturday evening show showcasing several songs. "Long Live Love" won the popular vote, but I remember sending off my postcard for Hands Across The Sea, which I still believe was the better song. Then again, competing against ABBA, noone had a chance, as they were (and are still) brilliant.,

I prefer the simpler style of Eurovision from those days. A song would live or die because of the writer and performer as would the show itself. Countries spend spend spend to outdo each other these days and although the shows are more of a spectacle, they're getting as ludicrous as the Olympics opening ceremony etc. I must be getting old.
