@buddyrush1059 sure about that? I was saying Kid Ramos and Jimmie Vaughan was the shit when they played in the band. T-Birds now is not the same as it was! And by the way, grow up and talk to people with respect, that will give you respect too!
if you count Jimmie Vaughan, Kid Ramos and Kirk Fletcher (i don't know if there were any others) the T'Birds have a stream of fabulous guitarists, absolutely great...Kirk F. is amazing, just keep an eye on him, he's fuckin' brilliant...
Stop me if I'm boring you ;-) I reckon Mike Keller (the guy with glasses) is as good a guitarist as Jimmie and could carry the guitar duties completely on his own. Johnny Moeller, though, lifts the band to a different level. He's excellent. The support band were very good, considering it was their first gig together they can only get better...frightening, eh? What surprised and amused me were the number of guys there (including Kim) with the same shaven head and goatee look as me :-D
Snap! Think my ol' man was one of them too lol :) But you're right, we thought the new guys did a fantastic job (Johnny has got presence!) and yes, we loved the 'impromptu' support Band! Singer is Alan Nimmo - will keep an eye on him!
Yeh, he's singer/guitarist (along with his brother Steve) in The Nimmo Brothers. There's a few videos of them on here. The new band will be good, although the two will apparently be continuing (like Kim Wilson's Blues Band and the T-Birds ;-) ).
That Festival in Calgary looks good, btw, with The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Canned Heat, Buckwheat Zydeco, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and all. Wonder if the wife will let me go...
You mean the first seven? Jimmie played on them all, and I have all seven. I also have Family Style and The Jimmy Reed Highway.
Jimmie (to my ear) was an integral part of the T-Birds sound, as important as Kim Wilson's harp.
However, as a guitarist he's seriously limited in a technical sense. With the T-Birds he was excellent, like Keith Richard with The Stones, but there's a reason he's released so few albums solo, 3 in 18 years.
Indeed, Jimmie's Jimmie as you said...but no more than that.
the first 4 were great and the first 2 were phenomenal, and the first 'Girls Go Wild' is a classic by any standard. Jimmie is technically phenomenal, and the most original player around, with the capo or the pick. his solo output has allot to do with his integrity: he plays what he wants with who he wants and goes totally in his own direction. as Stevie said, 'at any given time Jimmie's playing 1% of what he knows and i'm playing 90% of what i know.' Others play more, but no one is better.
I can see we're preaching from opposite sides of the same prayer sheet here, we're both fans of Jimmie, the only difference is I think he's technically naive, you think he's not.
What matters is from Girls Go Wild to T-Birds Rhythm (owing much to Jimmie) was, perhaps, the Thunderbirds best period.
My initial point stands, though. Mike Keller is a guitarist who could carry guitar duties himself, Johnny Moeller lifts the band to a new level.
You're right, we're both fans, but explain 'technically naive' as it applies to Jimmie? Anyway, there have been so many great players in the T-Birds over the years, Kim has done a great job of keeping the band fresh, plus he just keeps getting better which seems impossible every time I see him, going back to '78 or so. I can picture Kid Andersen in this band somewhere down the line...
I first saw the T'Birds at The Marquee, Wardour St, London in '79 - caught the 'bug' there & then! J. Vaughan era - raw & fast.
Kept my eye on Kim (swoon!) ever since. Seen them in London,Southampton&Glasgow these past 3yrs. Met Kim at our hotel in S'hampton last yr - what a lovely bloke.
Missed Kirk & Nick but thought the 2 young boys (to me they were young!) did a fantastic job.
Very approachable band, wouldn't you agree?
Did you like the support Band? We thought they were excellent!
I was at the Glasgow gig last night, too. The band were every bit as good as I expected, Kim has ALWAYS known how to pick guitarists. I've been a fan for thirty years and yesterday was the first time I'd seen them live.
I'd be hard pushed to even name a harpman who's on a par with Kim Wilson, never mind as good as.
Just flown back from the Glasgow gig-brilliant night! Kim and his young bucks did this proud! How does he manage all those 8-10 min harp solos??!!!
We travel from London to see bands in Glasgow, as the audiences are much more enthusiastic. Last night was no exception!
Honoured to have met Kim following this and last year's UK tours and he is SUCH a nice, sweet guy. He thanks US for coming to see HIM, would you believe!?!!! Any day, any place.
@buddyrush1059 haha, You´re funny!!

To say anybody is in Jimmie's class is tripping, have you heard the first 4 T-Birds' records? Keller and Moeller are great, but Jimmie's Jimmie.
