I'm going to visite yosemite national park this year. from el portal, highway 140, then to the yosemite valley. do you think it will be safe to drive from the valley through higway 41 and see giant sequoias at mariposa grove and then leave the park by south entrance???

@ClaireSuperNana Late May, early June. The waterfalls are at their peak, the valley is a lush green, and the roads up to Glacier Point and into the high country are usually open.

Why everyone doesn't go there often is a mystery to me. I grew up going camping there every year as a child, and just got done working and living there for 3 months! I miss it sooo much! Can't wait to go back! Pass it on!

I have been to many places around the world and there is something about Yosemite.

California in fact is actually my favorite location to visit in the world. It's full of so many diverse, different and contrasting scenery and is easier to travel about than Asia and other continents.

This is a magnificent place. Each season changes what you see in the park. Beyond the incomparable valley are the less visited, but no less stunning upper meadows near the Sierra passes. I have been going here since I was a kid and have visited the park at least 60 times. It just never gets old. Winter is my favorite. Cold, but no people. The waterfalls forming giant ice walls. Even cooler ... the walls crack and break sending icebergs down to the valley floor. It sounds like thunder.

July-August are the hottest. Summer is very crowded but still temperate. But places like Tuolumne Meadows are still less crowded. Still, if you have never been, the Valley is a must. You can swim in the park, rafting down the Merced can be very enjoyable. Also, the Sunday brunch at the Ahwanee is spectacular. Winter is great. Uncrowded, skiing at Badger Pass (for the kids) plus X-country and if you want to blow some cash, the Bracebridge dinners at the Ahwanee. By all means, vist.

November is very unpredictable. The high country is likely seen snow by then and is invariably closed. Waterfalls are typically gone, although with the rain that begins in September, you don't really know. In summary, it is usually a bit rainy, a lot of color due to change of seasons, high country typically closed, bring chains, temperature 30-60F, I think the crowds thin out a bit until around Thanksgiving. Pretty.

Yosemite is wonderful any time of year but if my favorite time to visit is mid week in mid winter. You can be nearly alone with the beauty, the quiet and a few coyotes.
