They arrived in Guam (where I was stationed) and pulled next to our ship to load training MK48 ADCAPS. As soon as they switched power to our ship they caused the land connections to burn and disabled our power for 3 hours. 2 days later thier weapons crew was relieved for putting dry cleaning solvent in the hydro lines.

While at sea with the USNS Niagra Falls the 2 ships collided and the Greenville's screw unzipped the side of the Niagra perferating the hull and spilling thousands of gallons of fuel..... With a crew that has been either partially or completely relieved and been in that many accidents tells us in the navy its cursed!

@dracorider To answer your question, forget those boring rides at Disneyworld - being in submarine during an emergency blow is a hell of a ride, especially if you're in the Bow Compartment all the way forward. It takes about 90 seconds from Test Depth to broach the surface, and you can feel the boat's bow come out of the water and submerge again.

You don't get to do them often, only during drills or sea trials, but it's an absolute blast to be onboard. Unless of course it's a real emergency..

@SubaruB4RSK Only the Seawolf/Virginia-class boats have Bow planes; older US boats have Fairwater (Sail) planes. Either way, all planes are at full rise (30° if I remember correctly) during an emergency blow. That's both Bow / Sail planes and Stern planes.

Check out the Hunt for Red October movie--The USS Houston does an emergency blow that was my best time aboard that boat! I had to have been standing at a relative angle of 60 degrees, but my equilibrium was telling me I was upright! Lousy movie (sorry, but true) but great time filming it.

We also had to do an emergency blow a few months later for flooding through the ventilation room, but that's a different story.
